00:00I moved to Africa, and precisely on the 7th of July, 1991, my life changed.
00:06It changed dramatically.
00:08I hear loud shouting, and I feel something on my head, and that was a collapse.
00:13Four guys had entered the house.
00:15They were told by someone, and I never found out who, that I had $30,000 at home.
00:22So for one hour, they tortured me in different ways.
00:26They put the g** at my knees.
00:28They were beating me.
00:29They were threatening to do something to my wife.
00:32They were apparently military or ex-military.
00:35And again, threats over threats.
00:38And so that was, for me, a complete sort of dehumanization.
00:43Obviously, I was scared for myself that I would be killed.
00:47And they were not covered.
00:49They didn't have any masks or something.
00:51So they were very clearly identifiable.
00:53So I thought I would be killed.
00:55I mean, in these moments, you have so many thoughts, which are going through your brain,
01:01through your whole body.
01:02You're basically paralyzed.
01:05You can't even really move.
01:07I would never understand what really happened in the end.
01:10But here he was, when they had finished emptying the house, and finally understanding that there
01:16were no $30,000, he basically pulled the trigger, and it made click, and it didn't happen.
01:21There was no shot.
