00:00Joe, there's a lot of conversation in D.C. right now,
00:02especially at the end of that football game with Commanders and Giants, 27-27.
00:07I want to hear your take from a quarterback's view on what you're hearing.
00:11Obviously, it's a collective.
00:13There's a lot of blame that could go around there.
00:16That was Washington's game to win.
00:18I think the Giants have to feel pretty good getting out of there
00:20with the way that thing ended.
00:22But give me how you think and how you see how that game ended.
00:26I think, obviously, you don't know if the kick was going to be made,
00:29but there would have been an opportunity for the Commanders to win it.
00:32I believe this, that if you're the quarterback and you're on the field,
00:36you're in charge.
00:37You're in charge.
00:38You're the one looking at the clock.
00:40You're the one that knows the down and distance.
00:42You're the one.
00:43I was the holder for Mark Mosley.
00:45I knew how close I had to get to be able to give him a chance to win.
00:50And so when you look at the last play, when Jaden goes down,
00:57it looked like he might have been lying on the ground for a second or two,
01:01and I didn't understand that.
01:02But as a quarterback, you have to be aware of everything that's going on.
01:07Obviously, the coach, they talk about the lack of communication
01:10or whatever it was.
01:12That's certainly a part of it.
01:13But I think at that stage of the game, when you're on the field,
01:17you're in charge.
01:19That's, you know, that's just – it's part of the job of being prepared
01:23for those moments, being prepared for the things that you need to do
01:27to give your team a chance to win.
01:28What's the down and distance?
01:30Can I ground it?
01:31Is it fourth down?
01:32I can't ground it.
01:33Is it third or second down?
01:34Do I have time to do something?
01:36Do I have time to get it out of my hands?
01:38I mean, there's lots of things that you can do at that moment,
01:42and none of them happen for Jaden.
01:46We had Mike Martz on yesterday, and he said this.
01:49He goes, why even run another play?
01:51Just get the field goal team out there and give yourself a shot to go home.
01:56He goes, there's no sense of going out there and running another play.
02:00Get the field goal team.
02:01You have 34 seconds.
02:02Kick the field goal and go home.
02:04Do you agree with that?
02:05I don't know what they were doing.
02:07I don't know what they were doing at 12 seconds.
02:09I mean, you had 55 seconds.
02:12I believe it's 55 seconds, right?
02:13You ran a play.
02:14So now, you know, understand, hey, the Philadelphia Eagles taught us
02:18that there's plenty of time if there's seven seconds on the clock
02:21for something stupid to happen, okay?
02:23So lesson learned.
02:24So you run it down.
02:26You take the snap.
02:28You ground it.
02:29It was what, second or third down?
02:31I mean, you had a down to play with.
02:33You know, you throw it out of bounds.
02:35There's a receiver on the left you can see when Jaden starts to run.
02:38Just throw it away.
02:39But, you know, I sort of analogize it a little bit to golf.
02:45When you put the club in your hand and you step over the ball, it's your ball to hit.
02:52You have to make the decisions.
02:54If you hit a bad shot, don't turn around and yell at the caddy like I do to my son
02:58all the time.
03:00Don't do it.
03:00It doesn't fly.
03:01The balls, the club's in your hand.
03:03You're the one that made the swing.
03:05And I think in this case, you're under center.
03:08You, you know, you've got to get the ball out of you.
03:12You've got to stop the clock.
03:13I mean, the coach isn't on the field with you.
03:17And I don't know.
03:18Like I said, I have no idea what the communications were.
03:20It's my understanding at 15 seconds, coaches' communications are shut off to the quarterbacks.
03:27So in those 15 seconds, the game belongs to you.
03:33And it just didn't work out.
03:36You know, you know, like you say, Joe.
03:38It was poorly handled.
03:39That's what I can say.
03:40But, Joe, you know what, like you said, and what you're trying to convey to everyone out there, I believe.
03:45You tell me if I'm wrong.
03:47Hey, man, it's player accountability first.
03:49Then you can go down the list of talking about the first-year play caller in David Blau.
03:54If the coaches reminded him where he was in the game.
03:58The quarterback and all players have to know where you are situationally, where you are in the field, how much
04:03time's out there, especially.
04:05And, Joe, this is why they pay you guys the big money, man.
04:08You guys have to know this, right?
04:10This is why you're the quarterback in a football team, right?
04:14Yeah, you really should.
04:16And like I said, with the headsets being shut off with 15 seconds to go, those 15 seconds belong to
04:23you.
04:24You get to, you know, during the course of a game, you get to the line of scrimmage.
04:28You look at the alignment.
04:30You know, you hear guys going, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill.
04:34Go to another play.
04:35That means that the game's in the quarterback's hands.
04:39Inside of 15 seconds, coaches can't tell you anything.
04:43They can't tell you anything.
04:45Now, was it communicated to Jaden to do something?
04:49I don't know.
04:50We have no idea.
04:51And certainly no one, you know, whether it's David or Dan or Jaden, they're not going to say anything.
04:57You know, and now all of a sudden you're walking into a buzzsaw.
05:00You know, you had a game that you had a chance to, you know, you had a chance to pick
05:05up a game on the entire division.
05:07You beat the Giants, the Eagles lost, the Cowboys lost.
05:10You know, this was a critical game in standing regards.
05:14Now you have to travel to San Francisco on a Monday night and play a football team that, you know,
05:21we can always talk about the 49ers being beat up, but it doesn't matter.
05:25It doesn't matter.
05:26It doesn't matter who's on the field for them.
05:28Brock Purdy, to me right now, certainly I think is an MVP candidate.
