00:00So I understand there will be Monday Night Football on right after that game ends, or
00:04right after the Guardians game ends, we break right into Monday Night Football, Jake will
00:10have you tonight, alright?
00:11So whatever reaction it is, so if you're listening right now, or you're listening at 6, you're
00:15going to be up all day, and you're like, hey, we ain't dead yet, you tell Tone to stick
00:20it, that's fine.
00:21Or, God forbid, if you're like, you know what, Lima was right, Ken's an idiot, I heard this
00:26morning, this is, we should have known, this, that, and the other, fine, go right on ahead
00:31and do it, 216-474-0092.
00:34So that's tonight, 7-8, Jake Volnick, Monday Night Football air at the same time of the
00:39Guardians game, then right after the Guardians game, Jake will be back on, he'll have you
00:44for the fan post, playoff post game show, as soon as that game ends, right there, so there's
00:51nowhere else to go.
00:52Where else would you rather be than 92-3, the fan, it can't happen.
00:552-1-6-4-7-4-0-92, so I throw out the number again, because where are you at
00:59on Deshaun
01:00Watson now?
01:01I got something about Gavin Williams coming up at 7-22, but I gotta ask this, because,
01:07again, through six games, we're just still results-based, and that's fine.
01:10There's a lot of people who want to keep saying, if this, that, or the other continues, it's
01:16not sustainable, he can't play.
01:19I'm sorry, I think we look around the league, and maybe we're only watching our games, and
01:23we're only paying attention to what football was.
01:25At one point, I think that that argument could be made, because there were more elite
01:29quarterbacks.
01:30Now, like, you got Josh Allen, you got Mahomes, you got maybe two others, and then the rest
01:37of it is kind of up in the air.
01:39I mean, good God.
01:40I mean, how many more games do we lose, or do the Chargers lose, before we really have
01:44a discussion about Justin Herbert?
01:47I thought there was going to be a firing today.
01:49Like, I thought we already would have heard that McDaniel would be fired.
01:51Like, it is getting very, very, very strong here.
01:54And so, now you watch this, and I'm thinking, hey, it's the same thing.
01:58You win football games, especially with your offense struggling the way it is, I'm sorry,
02:04you get to be the guy, I'm not sorry, you get to be the quarterback the next week.
02:07And you really, this win, I do think cements Watson has to be for the next month, unless he
02:16were to get hurt, because you go on the road to Tennessee.
02:19Even if this is what the offense looks like the next two weeks.
02:21Yeah, because honestly, Anthony, like, again, it's just, it's basically, it's results-based.
02:25There are so many teams, I'll keep bringing this stat up, because I was shocked when I
02:29heard about it yesterday.
02:30There are 16 teams, 16, this is half your league, that is averaging less than four yards
02:35a carry.
02:36So, it ain't just the Browns.
02:37Half the league can't run the football.
02:40And he is most of the offense.
02:42And somehow, some way, he's able, and even in the Jets game, even in the Jets game, he's
02:48kind of able to putter along for three quarters, and then in the fourth quarter, it's not where
02:56it's just magic, it's just, this is going to be more cerebral football.
03:00Where, and you heard Daryl Johnson, I'm glad you brought that up.
03:03Daryl's like, people ain't open.
03:05Moose is saying, they're not open.
03:06Yeah, he said it throughout the game.
03:07You can be mad at the quarterback, but they're not open out there.
03:10And there were very few people open.
03:12From where I was sitting, there were very few people open.
03:15Third quarter, fourth quarter, really the fourth comes around.
03:18And some running lanes open up, now you've got to take the running game a little bit
03:21more seriously.
03:22And I know that there was a hold call on, I want to say it was on Barber, but I
03:26think
03:26it was a terrible hold call, to say the least.
03:29I thought it was a terrible, terrible hold call.
03:31But either way, like some running lanes open up, things change a little bit for you.
03:36Now you've got to take the running game a little bit more seriously.
03:38That opens up some opportunities for Deshaun Watson in the passing offense.
03:42And you end up winning the football game.
03:44And it's basic facts of this.
03:47And I hate to break it down so easily because it just seems to be like a fifth grader's
03:52understanding of it.
03:53But hey, did they win the game?
03:55Yeah, they won the game.
03:56All right, he's the quarterback next week.
03:57And he's the quarterback for the foreseeable future.
03:59Because you beat Baltimore.
04:00This wasn't garbage.
04:01You beat a good football team.
04:03And you beat them at home.
04:04And now you're 4-2.
04:05And now you're still at the top of the division.
04:07And you have a schedule that, I mean, it looks pretty inviting.
04:12If we're being honest with each other.
04:14I hate to put carts before horses here.
04:15But you've got Tennessee who just won a game.
04:17So I don't think they're going to be as desperate.
04:19But they're still going to be a desperate football team.
04:21You're at Pittsburgh.
04:22That's never easy.
04:23It's been since 03 since you won in the regular season.
04:25Okay, we'll be honest about that.
04:27And then you have a New Orleans team that started off hotter than hell.
04:29Their defense is bad.
04:31And then you're back home against Houston.
04:33So I'm not trying to count all the chickens here.
04:35We've got to get all this done.
04:36We've got to get some guys back and healthy and things like that.
04:39But you have a look at being one of the teams that are a competitive playoff conversation team
04:45throughout the rest until at least the bye week before Thanksgiving.
04:49Like, this is really, really nice for you.
04:51So we've got to be honest with each other here and go,
04:54Hey, did they win the game yet?
04:55Then Deshaun Watson's your quarterback.
04:57It's that simple.
04:58What do you think it was about the offense?
05:00And I don't even think it's week to week anymore.
05:01I'm sorry.
05:01Go ahead.
05:02What was it about the offense yesterday?
05:04Because I actually thought that in pass protection.
05:08I just swallowed a lot of coffee grounds.
05:09Go ahead.
05:10I actually thought they were way better in pass protection than I had seen in a while.
05:14But part of it was Baltimore was only really sending four guys in most of the game.
05:18So, you know, it's a weird thing to try to assess when they're putting seven in coverage.
05:23And I was just surprised Munkin didn't have enough answers, whether it was like safety valves,
05:30maybe opportunity to throw it to the tight end or throw it to the running back.
05:33Like, they didn't have to be in max protect yesterday because they were only facing a four-man rush most
05:39of that game.
05:40Yeah.
05:40Well, I mean, when you got guys who were able to get home in that secondary, that secondary is good.
05:43I mean, you're talking about Kyle Hamilton back there.
05:45And he's a multifaceted tool that you can use.
05:48And, obviously, he was great in the run game yesterday.
05:50And so, when you have a secondary that plays as well as the Ravens' secondary does,
05:54like, I don't think the Ravens' defense is what it was two years ago, but it's still a really good
05:58defense.
05:58And you still have a really good secondary back there.
06:01And Roquan Smith is, yeah, you know, he might be getting a little long in the tooth.
06:06But they sent him on a couple timely blitzes that landed.
06:09Yeah, and it worked.
06:09So, I think there's so many things that you try to open up.
06:14And then, really, I do think a lot of it just became a lot of playground stuff with Deshaun Watson.
06:19Yeah, he holds on to the football too long.
06:21Yeah, but he's able to get a first down with his legs.
06:23And he was able to get a couple of really big first downs with his legs.
06:26Which continues to be like their only offense.
06:27I understand.
06:28It is tough.
06:29He does.
06:29Like, yesterday, it felt like he was not seeing the field well at all.
06:33And the not throwing the football, like, he doesn't really throw it away.
06:37Because that seems to be the only source of their big plays is him holding on to the ball.
06:41And I'm still results-based.
06:42So, when we want to have these conversations about quarterbacks.
06:44And I understand there's a part of the fan base that does want to have that conversation.
06:48You're not getting anywhere with me.
06:50Because I don't need to win pretty.
06:52I just need to win.
06:53This team won five games last year.
06:55They won eight over the last two years.
06:57You've won half the games already within the first month and a half of the season than you won in
07:01the previous two years.
07:04Fifty percent of the games that you won over the last two years have already been won in a month
07:07and a half.
07:07I don't need to win pretty.
07:09I just need to win.
07:10And so, they're winning.
07:11And a lot of it does have to do with the quarterback.
07:13On the offensive end.
07:15On the offensive end.
07:16Defense is carrying you.
07:17There's no doubt about it.
07:18But on the offensive end, there's a lot that's on him.
07:22And when you come through and you win that football game, that's it.
07:25That's it.
07:26There's no argument that can be made against the guy.
07:29Unless, God forbid, he were to get hurt.
07:31And so, if you're playing, he's not playing a full effective four quarters.
07:34I'm not saying that.
07:35He's not one of the greatest quarterbacks in the NFL.
07:38I think Linnell Willingham had a stat where his QBR, through the first three quarters, is dead last of starting
07:43quarterbacks in the NFL.
07:44And I think he's 70% as a 70 QB rating in the fourth, which puts him like ninth, I
07:50think, is what Linnell said this morning.
07:51So, like, you do have this Jekyll and Hyde type of quarterback situation that you have going on.
07:57And in most situations, yeah, that's unsustainable.
08:01Yeah, that's flimsy.
08:02And I go, guys, look around the league.
08:03There's a lot of things that are unsustainable and are very flimsy out there right now.
08:08And you're winning these football games.
08:10And frankly, yeah, I'm surprised.
08:12I didn't think you had a lot of depth.
08:13You still don't have a lot of depth.
08:16Your offensive linemen, the two offensive linemen, the youth that you got again.
08:19Austin Barber had a wonderful block yesterday to get things started there in that final drive.
08:24It was awesome.
08:25And I'm sure there's some things on tape that we won't like.
08:27That's what you get with rookies.
08:28That's what happens.
08:29But, damn it, you're winning football games here.
08:31And I think there's a lot to be positive about with them.
08:33And I think there's a lot to be positive about when you're winning football games.
08:36You got Deshaun Watson out there.
08:37It's that simple.
08:382-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
08:40Let me go to – well, some of the calls are on the Guardians.
08:43So I'm going to get to some of the Guardians things in a moment.
08:45Do you feel the same way when it comes to him, when it comes to the quarterback?
08:49Yeah, it's so weird because, you know, their offense – like, I thought Todd would be able to scheme some
08:56more stuff up.
08:57I thought they were so predictable yesterday.
08:59I really did.
09:00I thought they telegraphed every run play on second down.
09:03Just felt like it was –
09:04Yeah, but don't you have to do that when you've got Odrick Estame as you're running back –
09:08I mean, you've got guys that were not a part of the team at the beginning of the week.
09:12It's not going to be very intricate when you don't have guys that were not even in the city.
09:17Yeah, against him.
09:17He was just – he was in Minnesota to start with him.
09:19And I'm surprised.
09:20Normally, offenses that struggle and, like I said yesterday, wasn't as bad in pass protection.
09:26But when you're having those issues, you think of the tight end as a safety valve.
09:31Harold Fanning just can't get going in this offense.
09:33And I'm so confused –
09:35Red zone he does.
09:36Yeah, that's about it.
09:37I'm so confused how –
09:39But we didn't get there until the fourth quarter.
09:40Who used the tight ends as well as he did in Baltimore can't get a weapon like Harold Fanning going.
09:48It just surprises me that there aren't some easy, easy, whether it's man beaters or whatever,
09:55that they can get him involved.
09:56Well, I do think they've had to keep him in way more than they probably want to
10:01because of the way the blocking has gone.
10:03And he hasn't been great at blocking either.
10:05No, he's been terrible.
10:06That's one of the things that people have noticed on tape.
10:08But, like, even Stefanski was really good at using Njoku in the screen game.
10:14They don't have that.
10:15That is not a part of the offense right now with Todd Mugkin.
10:17But I'm telling you, I think they've done a great job.
10:19I think he's done a great job of scheming open.
10:21And this, again, this is a tough secondary you're playing.
10:23And I think he's done a great job, Munkin here, of scheming open the rookies
10:27and scheming open KC Concepcion and putting him in a position to succeed.
10:31There was a great call yesterday that was down at our end.
10:33And I saw Blake Whitehart split open wide.
10:36And I go, you watch right here.
10:37Number one's getting it over the middle.
10:38And sure as hell right on the crosser.
10:40And it was wide open.
10:41And there he was able to get it.
10:42And they were able to get a first down.
10:43It was a perfect play.
10:44It was a perfect setup.
10:45So he's doing a lot to scheme the Fed.
10:47And yet Denzel Boston isn't as fast as KC Concepcion, but he ain't slow.
10:51And so you've got these two guys that I think they're doing a pretty good job
10:54of scheming open.
10:55So, yeah, it is very much a hand-to-mouth offense.
10:59So I can understand some of the things about, hey, let's get Harold Fanning going.
11:02But when you're in the red zone, it's going okay.
11:05And right now I'm going to take what I can get when it comes to getting some
11:08of these guys open.
11:09Yeah, it could always be better.
11:10It sure as hell could be better.
11:11And now you need to keep trying to make it better.
11:13I don't think anybody should just be satisfied with it.
11:15But we also have to see where we came from before we start feeling down in the mouth
11:20about some of the offensive stuff.
11:21Not that you are about the offense here.
11:22You have about the Guardians, which I want to get to here in a second.
11:252-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
11:27The Guardians' backs are against the wall.
11:29And they should be in survival mode.
11:32But Stephen Vogt would disagree with that thought.
11:34Ken Carman, Anthony Lyman, whether or not Gavin Williams should be on that mound tonight.
11:38It's coming up in five on the...
