00:00to continue on the victory monday good vibrations we we go out to the wise heart right we make it
00:08right call kyle wright hotline he joins us every single monday at 5 p.m browns analyst nathan
00:15zagura joining us right now nathan happy browns victory monday once again yeah happy victory
00:21monday to you guys happy first place in the afc north and this team while it's not always pretty
00:28it sure is resilient and they boy do they know how to make plays when they need to at the
00:32end of
00:32these games they they certainly do and again i i'm not in the style points business because i'm just
00:38in the i like winning business but i am curious of that this foreign to start what surprised you
00:45most about it for for the browns team a good question i i would just say probably the fact
00:54that when the game is on the line deshaun watson is turning into the deshaun watson who led clemson
01:01down the field and found hunter renfro to win a national championship the the manner in which to
01:07have four game winning drives out of the last five to have let a go-ahead fourth quarter drive by
01:13the
01:13way in all five of those to be one of the best fourth quarter comeback quarterbacks in the league
01:17the way that he is making the plays when they need to um i would say that's probably been the
01:23biggest
01:24surprise and certainly the most pleasant surprise and then the other one would be that you trade
01:29miles garrett you bring in jared verse who probably has no sacks but would have stack assists many of
01:36them by the way if that were a stat and this team has 19 sacks on the season mason graham's
01:41missed a
01:41couple of games now mike hall's missed a couple of games they have 19 sacks on the season alex wright
01:46hasn't played all year which is the second most sacks of any team in the nfl that is that is
01:51pretty
01:51incredible to me yeah it's a lot of fun uh i think yesterday for myself as much fun as the
01:56game
01:56winning drive is it's jerry judy coming up in a big moments and this has now become a theme uh
02:01for a lot
02:02of people they just kind of threw jerry judy off to the side take me through how jerry judy has
02:07not
02:07only found his spot but seems like he's coming up with big plays now in multiple weeks
02:14he has and i got to talk with jerry judy today and i don't i know you guys have seen
02:17it everybody's
02:17seen it now in the locker room the post-game speech that todd munkin gave first of all you can
02:24tell that this team loves each other you can tell that this team loves and believes in todd
02:28munkin they love and believe in mike rutenberg on the defensive side i've never seen a coach
02:34basically publicly say you know what i had it wrong on you jerry judy i we're better when you're
02:40involved i got to be better getting you involved thank you for staying you know resilient in all of
02:45this and making those plays and then the reaction jerry judy got casey concepcion dylan samson was
02:50right there just mobbing him the affection from his teammates it would be look he's gotten paid he's
02:56been a pro bowler this hasn't gone the way he wanted he got i think no targets against carolina
03:00he had one target against uh he had one target in the game against the tampa bay buccaneers yet he
03:05makes the good block against the tampa bay buccaneers to help blake whitehart get in
03:09he gets the catches against pittsburgh he makes the plays again this week he is from that standpoint
03:15how clutch he has been it's it's incredible it's a testament to who he is as a leader as a
03:21veteran
03:22the affection these young guys who were drafted to take his job have for him i think it's really it's
03:27a special thing it's one of those sports stories that i really enjoy i got a chance to talk to
03:31them
03:31he was you know it meant a lot to him too the jerry judy and i know that deshaun went
03:35and talked to him
03:37after the carolina game and told him look i'm gonna need you we are going to need you and i
03:43need you to be ready because i'm going to come to you in a big moment and sure enough and
03:47and that
03:47meant something jerry judy that deshaun watson did that and and how about this talk about a
03:50quarterback driven offense that was a check again deshaun checks into that play they run the clear
03:56out of harold fan and you get the cover to look the deep safety the dig they felt like jerry
04:00had talked
04:00about it fan and thought hey if i clear out i know we we can get these digs here they
04:04call it up in the
04:04biggest moment hits them right in stride picks up 33 yards just it's awesome and then andre schmidt
04:10to go in and make that kick after he had missed and and broken his streak of 25 straight made
04:15field
04:15goals they block one where they're blatantly offside but that could throw off his rhythm instead
04:20he just gets up there and calmly boots it right through the uprights which is awesome
04:23nathan you mentioned uh deshaun watson in the fourth quarter i i thought it was interesting daniel
04:28fusi tweeting out in the first three quarters of games this season deshaun's qbr is ranked 32 out
04:35of 33 qualifying quarterbacks in the fourth quarter of games this season he's ninth what is the biggest
04:42difference you're seeing from those first three quarters from deshaun and that fourth quarter
04:47version that keeps uh you know churning out these wins yeah that's the that's the big question and how
04:53can we can get that offense to be the offense for 60 minutes i mean i think the best thing
04:57we've seen in
04:57the first half is the second quarter against pittsburgh three straight touchdown drives but
05:01it's it's in there it's in him a lot of it is not necessarily his fault a lot of it
05:07can be
05:07at times when guys are open the line was there i thought the ravens certainly early in this game
05:12were on to a lot of our concepts and route combinations and there really wasn't a whole lot
05:16of of clear areas to go with the football they did a better job as the game went on but
05:20that's going
05:21to be the thing right to figure that out to find that so that this team can go be you
05:26know for 60
05:26minutes a team that can make huge plays and can win games yeah uh you know it's interesting there
05:32were so many fun parts about yesterday's game and so many things uh that i want to discuss but they
05:37another standout for myself is how they were able to contain derrick henry and you mentioned like
05:41early in the game even for deshaun it was different but for derrick henry it seemed like he could do
05:44whatever he wanted and then what adjustment was made what happened obviously you had the schwessinger
05:49play later with the fumble but derrick henry just could not run the ball at all this defense was
05:54everywhere around him so derrick henry had three of his carries that went for 37 yards he had two 10
06:01yards rushes and a 17 yard rush and i don't have the numbers in front of me but i think
06:04he would
06:04finish at 17 carries for 58 yards so his other 14 carries went for 21 yards and what they did
06:11was a
06:11good job of getting penetration and making him chop his feet when derrick henry gets that full head of
06:17steam doesn't have to chop his feet he's elite he's the best in the league but when you make him
06:20chop
06:20his feet and slow him down then he's a big guy that takes a little bit of time to get
06:24back up to
06:25speed and the browns were able to rally they rallied to the ball they all tackle and that was
06:29awesome to see they did such a great job the browns defense gave up two first downs in the second
06:34half
06:34of this game and i know you say well the large x wasn't out there the ravens in the last
06:37three games
06:38started by todd by tyler huntley i'm sorry had been averaging 33 points the game they had been one of
06:43the best offenses in the nfl with him he was completing 75 of his passes a rating of 110 and
06:49then the
06:49browns went out and absolutely stuffed them over the course of the brilliant second quarter and the
06:54second half nathan we we know we can talk about the offense having a having another gear to get to
07:00do you think the defense has another gear to get to in spite of what has been a really strong
07:04start
07:04of the season i mean if we're nitpicking we'd say just be better on the first drive that seems to
07:09be kind of the only thing that hasn't gone the way that you'd want it defensively so no and i
07:15think
07:15emmanuel mcnewell warren's starting to show that he's a playmaker didn't make the interception but
07:18right place he will take the football away to what he did in toledo this defense it's excellent
07:22it's fun to watch and you know we're going to get mason back we're going to get mike hall back
07:28it's just awesome the watching the way that we're running these games up front that the twists and
07:32the stunts and the way we're doing some of the things on the back end that no matter what whoever
07:36has to step up is and you got to give a lot of credit to mike grudenberg getting a lot
07:39of credit
07:40that not only mike grudenberg is the defense core but mike grudenberg having the foresight and the and the
07:45the humility to be able to let all the position coaches stay because i think joxie's there what
07:52he's done with the defensive line is incredible what jason tarver does with the linebackers is
07:56incredible what brandon lynch does with the corners is incredible what coach bonda does with the safeties
08:00is incredible to keep those lieutenants in place shows a lot of humility and self-belief obviously in
08:05mike grudenberg and these guys are doing their jobs phenomenally well and it's awesome how do you explain
08:11just how challenging that was for schwestinger to not only be playing as injured as he was but then
08:15to be as awesome as he continues to be because he's a wolverine and most people in the nfl would
08:21not have played that game most people would not have played that game or probably next week or that game
08:24next week and maybe even the week after that but he's just wired different he knows what he has to
08:29do he knows his body he has an unbelievable pain tolerance and he if he can play he's gonna play
08:34and
08:35he didn't miss a snap it's it's honestly it defies a lot of the things we know about the human
08:41body
08:41but carson schwestinger is one of those people that it seems to be different joe thomas played
08:45through so many injuries nobody ever had any idea about or how he was able to do it carson schwestinger
08:50might be cut from that same cloth and quite frankly i think should be one of the absolute faces of
08:54this
08:54franchise for everything he embodies the way he plays and and what he brings to this team
08:58nathan zegur on the wise heart right we make it right call kyle right hotline i i thought the
09:04offensive line was really bad against the jets i i don't think they're still where we want them
09:09to be but i i think there was a little bit of a step forward at points on sunday what
09:15where where
09:16are we trending with this offensive line and what are what are they working on to get it kind of
09:20a
09:20more consistent approach i mean consistency is the name of the game cohesion is what you want on an
09:27offensive line and you're getting guys who at times are showing up now jaleel mclaughlin i thought was
09:32kind of just want to give him a shout out a little underrated and what he did he averaged over
09:35five
09:35yards after contact before six missed tackles in his nine rushes so i thought he did a great job
09:40with what he was given but over the game winning play they blocked the one that jerry judy they
09:45blocked that one up and if we can get more consistent on the offensive line and getting push in the
09:49run
09:49game and then protecting in the pass games we are going to be better for it one of the things
09:54that
09:54you know i think also will help them is being more varied when we do go under center because
09:59teams now around the league it's another trend is to blitz the heck out of you when you're under
10:03center because they know it's either going to be a run or it's going to be a play action pass
10:06it
10:07takes time and they're betting that if it's a run they can get you in the backfield and if it's
10:10a
10:10play action pass they'll get home before that quarterback after that back to the defense can
10:14get his head around so i think we're going to have to add in some wrinkles of straight drop back
10:18passing from the under center game and if we do that that'll keep things a little more off balance but
10:22this line early was tough they saw a lot of blitzes last week it was tough but when they needed
10:26to be
10:27good and that's kind of the theme of the team when they needed to be good they were and that's
10:30why the browns are foreign too how do you explain someone like to wheel and what i mean by that
10:34is
10:34in denver he averaged just shy of five yards per carry and he just gets tossed aside like he's like
10:40days old chinese food and it's like well hold on five yards of carry is really hard to do it's
10:43it's
10:43very impressive and then and then he gets to the browns and even like yesterday like obviously the
10:4728 yard touchdown play we've talked about but i mean it was 4.6 yards per carry but for a
10:51large portion
10:52of the day he was over five and i just i i you know he's good you know he's talented
10:56how does somebody
10:56like that just kind of get i don't know passed around the nfl and almost forgotten in a sense
11:01when they're all they've ever done is be productive because he's undersized he went to small school
11:06the now defunct notre dame college here but he's the all-time leading rusher in college football
11:10history he's very talented and takes advantage of his opportunity so i'm glad he was available to
11:14the browns because i don't think we win that game without jaleel mclaughlin and so he's an awesome
11:19kid great story um odrick estimate you know same thing when they were on the same denver teams
11:24together and sma you know comes in scores a touchdown there it's it's awesome that's kind
11:29of what this team is they're all buying in they all love the locker room and you're seeing the
11:33team rowing in the same direction like i said doing what they need to do when they need to do
11:37it and
11:37that's what the nfl is there's so much talent equates week in and week out that it comes down
11:41to a few plays here or there and the browns keep finding a way to be on the right side
11:44of it but now
11:45next week you got to go to tennessee and take care of business it's a game you should win
11:48and it's a game that the browns have to go win not used to hearing that too many times a
11:52game that
11:53vegas expects you to win let's hope next time we talk nathan they're five and two it sounds pretty
11:59good to me i know it sounds pretty good to you but great stuff on the call yesterday you and
12:02andrew did a great job as always we appreciate you bud all right thank you guys nathan's a girl
12:08there browns analyst on the wise heart right we make it right call kyle wright hotline
