00:00Browns 3-1, as you mentioned there, Daryl.
00:02Give me one thing that you think points to this being real,
00:07and give me one thing that point to it not being as real as we hoped it would be.
00:13I'm going to point to Todd Munkin as it being real.
00:22I was very skeptical of the hire.
00:24I've been very public about my mea culpa in that.
00:28It really seems like the players respond to him very well,
00:35and I kind of give him a tremendous amount of credit as to why this team
00:42has been able to bounce back from what, I mean,
00:45we just thought the train was coming off the tracks after week one,
00:48and it was going to be a miserable nosedive to the April draft,
00:52and that's not occurred.
00:53And so I give Todd Munkin a lot of credit,
00:57and I think that he's a big, big reason why they're 3-1.
01:03The thing that may be why it's not so real,
01:07I'm going to say the fourth quarter heroics that have been required.
01:13And, you know, as Todd mentioned today,
01:16when I asked him about the Jets starting the season 1-3 and how real that looks to him,
01:22the NFL, you know, the line between winning and losing is so fine.
01:28And, you know, to the Browns' credit, they've gotten it done in crunch time,
01:34but the close misses from Deshaun Watson when you're talking about potential turnovers
01:38that haven't been turnovers that could have been combined with these, you know,
01:43these late drives that have been required, it's been great,
01:48but it's also a reminder that a play here or there and things might not be so great.
01:55Darrell, let me ask you about Deshaun Watson today.
01:58It felt like the feeling out of the room and some people that were there,
02:01we talked to Ashley earlier, it felt like Deshaun was pretty confident today.
02:04Did you get that same impression on him?
02:07And maybe it's existed for more than just this session,
02:10but there's a confidence that exists with Deshaun that maybe didn't exist,
02:13let's say, three weeks ago.
02:14Well, I don't know if I'd say confidence, Jonathan.
02:17I think it's more comfort.
02:19He's becoming more comfortable.
02:22You know, all the questions are football-related.
02:25Now the questions that are football-related, most of them are positive
02:29or have a positive tone to them.
02:32He's coming off one of his best games as a Cleveland Brown ever
02:37in that Thursday night win over the Steelers.
02:40You're going into New York playing a 1-3 New York Jets team.
02:46So you've got your teammates around you making plays.
02:50The offensive line has been helping him out.
02:53You've got Denzel Boston, Casey Concepcion catching the football.
02:56Jerry Judy comes out of nowhere, makes three big catches on a Thursday night.
03:01But three straight game-winning drives in the fourth quarter for Watson as well.
03:06So, yeah, I think that he's becoming more comfortable with things.
03:12And the conversation surrounding him, obviously,
03:14is a lot more positive than it was four to five weeks ago as well.
03:19All right, Daryl.
03:21We've had a little bit of this debate this week,
03:24and I'm sure you guys had it when I wasn't here last week as well.
03:28What does Deshaun still need to prove as he continues to play
03:33over the next couple weeks and months?
03:35Consistency.
03:37I think that that's what it needs to be, even out the roller coaster.
03:42And I'm not saying that you've got to run up touchdown drives
03:45or scoring drives for the entirety of a game.
03:48We know there's lulls in football games.
03:50But if he can just even out his consistency when it comes to accuracy of throws,
04:00when it comes to putting drives together,
04:04I think that that's all I'm still looking for from him.
04:09He's proven that he can still play at this level.
04:12He's proven that he still can make things happen with his feet.
04:15He's proven that he still has the arm talent to make the throws.
04:19Just he's got to, again, be more consistent with those type of things.
04:24And he's proven that he can win in clutch time as well.
04:27So I really think that we can put away the throw-to-throw analysis
04:33of whether or not he should remain the starter versus being benched.
04:36I think we can set that aside for a little bit here
04:41and see what he's able to do here over these next couple of weeks
04:44as far as developing that consistency of high-level play.
04:49The E-Lines moved from 1-1⁄2 the Browns are getting now to 2-1⁄2,
04:53which means not only – I think a lot of people think,
04:56like, well, Vegas doesn't have this game right.
04:57Sure, but the betting public is also not siding with the Browns in this one either.
05:01Why do you feel like that is, that right now the outlook for this game
05:05is the Jets are, at least because they're home, a better team than the Browns?
05:08One, they want your money.
05:11Two, you know, I don't – I mean, I struggle at times
05:17when it comes to the analysis of the betting lines, Jonathan,
05:22and your friends in the desert or whatever.
05:24Look, I think that the perception of the Browns –
05:29it's going to take a couple more weeks of this for that perception really to turn
05:33and folks to really jump on the bandwagon, if you will,
05:36when it comes to the Browns being a serious team.
05:40I think that there are signs in these last three weeks that tell you,
05:45yes, I do believe the Browns are a very serious team.
05:48I've been very adamant about the supporting cast around Deshaun Watson
05:52being good enough to do some damage and be competitive on a week-to-week basis,
05:58and I've kind of put it all on Deshaun to go ahead and make that a reality.
06:04And look, the defense on that side of the ball, like, I don't know.
06:09Like, I don't know what else they need to do on that side of the ball to earn respect
06:14because, you know, they've shown the ability consistently this season
06:18to get off the field when it matters most
06:20and to keep, you know, opposing offenses outside of that week one game
06:25to kind of keep things at bay there.
06:27So you look at last week against the Steelers.
06:30You look at the Tampa Bay game.
06:34You know, so I just – I don't know.
06:37I think it's going to be a couple more weeks.
06:38Obviously, you've got the Jets this week, then a big, big one against the Ravens.
06:44I kind of worry this is a little bit of a trap game for the Browns
06:46because that Ravens game looms, but, again, I have belief that Todd Munkin
06:51is going to be able to keep guys focused on the main thing this week,
06:55which is going to New York and trying to come back 4-1.
06:58But, yeah, I just – I think that, you know, maybe if they're 5-2
07:03or something like that, your friends in the desert will start to give them
07:07a little more respect.
07:08All right, Daryl, have you heard Max Crosby's comments
07:11about Patrick Mahomes and his podcast this week?
07:14No.
07:14So Max Crosby claims that he can imitate the sound that Mahomes make
07:22when he brings Mahomes down.
07:24So I'm going to play the sound for you.
07:26Okay.
07:27And I want you – you're a brilliant wordsmith.
07:30I want you to – what word would you use to describe this sound?
07:34Are you ready?
07:34Okay, here we go.
07:35I think we've isolated just the sound.
07:38Right, Mark Koch?
07:38Mark Koch is – all right, so here's the sound.
07:42What is that sound?
07:43What would you describe that sound as?
07:46A grunt.
07:47Okay, all right.
07:48Yeah, Brogan Roback, remember him?
07:50He said it was a moan.
07:52I think this is – if that's a moan, we've got to talk to Brogan Roback.
07:57Yeah, I know.
07:58That's a grunt.
08:00Is it a manly grunt?
08:04What does that even mean?
08:05Is it a manly grunt?
08:07You know what it means.
08:08Give me like a manly grunt, Peterlin.
08:11You know exactly what it means.
08:12Tim the Toolman Taylor, that's a manly grunt.
08:14What would that sound like?
08:15Yeah, I don't do grunts.
08:16Oh, you don't do grunts?
08:17I'm not a grunt guy.
08:17You're not a grunter?
08:18Do I look like a grunt guy?
08:19You look like you would grunt.
08:20I'm not a grunt guy.
08:21You look like you'd be made to grunt.
08:22I think we've been accused of not being grunt guys in the past.
08:24Do we need to get Mrs. Peterlin on the phone to settle this?
08:28You can get her on the phone to make a noise, Daryl.
08:31No, not to make the noise.
08:33Got real problems, Daryl.
08:34Got real problems.
08:36I love where this went.
08:39Stop it.
08:39We're having fun.
08:40We're having fun.
08:42I had something else, Daryl, but I certainly don't remember what it is.
08:44I totally derailed it.
08:46Do you remember Broken Roback?
08:49No, it's been a while.
08:51All right, you're vindicated.
08:53You're vindicated.
08:54By the way, it was a Browns quarterback in 2018.
08:56No, but it's not fair.
08:58Nick is acting as if we had hours and hours of Broken Roback conversation, and we didn't.
09:02We had minutes and minutes of Broken Roback.
09:03We did not.
09:04He's like, 2018, and I'm like, Tyrod Taylor, Baker Mayfield, Drew Stanton, Kevin Hogan.
09:09And I'm like, I don't remember a Broken Roback, and I don't know how we had room for any
09:14more quarterbacks.
09:14Turns out, Daryl, he was the fifth quarterback on the roster in the preseason.
09:17I am going to call everyone here that was on the lineup, on the station.
09:22We kept fine.
09:23And ask them about Broken Roback.
09:25I guarantee you, you two are the anomalies.
09:28I'm happy that I got rid of them out of my brain.
09:30If I called Adam and Dustin, I guarantee you they say they had at least one Broken Roback
09:34conversation.
09:35Zero chance.
09:35I see either one of them remember him.
09:38Guarantee it.
09:38Guarantee it.
09:39Daryl, good stuff, buddy.
09:40Thank you, Daryl.
09:40All right, guys.
09:41Have a good.
09:43Have a good.
09:45Have a good.
09:45Have a good.
09:46Have a good.
