19:10Il est très bon, mais il est très bon.
19:14Oubelicious!
19:17Oubay a capturé le monde's attention,
19:19mais le purplé craze vivant
19:22peut dépendre d'avoir assez de ça à venir.
19:28Et ça se terminaut notre bulletin.
19:30Je suis Rosalind de Bovalia, en Bangkok.
19:32Merci beaucoup, Rosalind.
19:35Next, a new university established by Japan and Turkey
19:39recently opened in Ankara.
19:41Natural disasters are a big focus
19:44because in both countries,
19:46earthquakes are a part of daily life.
19:49The Turkish-Japanese University of Science and Technology
19:54aims to develop highly skilled professionals.
19:58It's the result of an agreement
20:01between the Japanese and Turkish prime ministers in 2013.
20:06There are undergraduate programs
20:09in fields such as environmental engineering
20:12and information engineering.
20:14There is also a doctoral program with two trucks.
20:18One focuses on earthquakes,
20:21the other on AI and digital technologies.
20:25The university currently has about 100 students,
20:29but there could be about 800 in the future.
20:40Classes started on October 5th.
20:42The students also learned the Japanese language.
20:46They will also have the chance to study in Japan
20:49or take internships
20:51at Japanese companies in Turkey.
21:10A massive earthquake struck southern Turkey in 2023,
21:16killing more than 59,000 people there and in Syria.
21:21Japan and Turkey have already worked together
21:24on making buildings more earthquake-resistant.
21:29They now hope to develop more talent
21:32to help achieve that mission.
21:36We believe that especially in earthquake disaster science,
21:40which is very important for both countries,
21:43Turkey and Japan, of course,
21:45or for the region and all over the world,
21:48we will have a very highly qualified engineers and scientists
21:52in order to solve maybe some important problems
21:54which will arise in the future.
21:58And for more, we're joined by NHK Istanbul Bureau Chief,
22:01Yabu Hideki.
22:02So Hideki, the university sounds interesting,
22:04but why did it take a whole 13 years to open?
22:10Yes.
22:10When the agreement was signed in 2013,
22:13the university's primary goal was to train specialists
22:15related to a planned nuclear power plant project in Turkey,
22:18but the focus shifted.
22:20And finding somewhere to build a campus wasn't easy.
22:23In fact, it was initially supposed to be in Istanbul,
22:26not Ankara.
22:29And what do the Turkish and Japanese governments
22:32hope to gain through this educational project?
22:37Turkey wants to harness Japanese scientific
22:39and technological expertise to modernize
22:41and shift away from labor-intensive work.
22:44The country is not part of the EU,
22:46but does have a customs union with the bloc.
22:49And that makes Turkey an attractive manufacturing base
22:52for overseas companies,
22:54including Japanese automakers.
22:57And Japan sees the university as an opportunity
22:59to strengthen ties with Turkey.
23:01The country sits between Europe,
23:04the Middle East, and Asia,
23:05and is growing more prominent on the diplomatic stage.
23:09An opening ceremony was held at the university
23:11in mid-October.
23:13Japan sent State Minister for Foreign Affairs,
23:15Nakasone Yasutaka,
23:17a special envoy for the prime minister,
23:20to the prime minister.
23:21Japan and Turkey have been in talks
23:23to sign the Economic Partnership Agreement
23:25since 2014,
23:26but negotiations have largely stalled in recent years.
23:31Still, the university could one day
23:33become a key cog in larger sphere.
23:36Hideki, thank you very much for all your insight.
23:39Israel Bureau Chief, Yabu Hideki.
23:44Now, it's time for a look at world weather
23:46with our meteorologist, Jonathan Oh.
23:51Hello.
23:51Over the weekend,
23:52we were keeping a close eye on Champa
23:54as it was moving toward the Mariana Islands,
23:56and at least the core of it moved south of Guam.
24:00Of course, a lot of intensity came with the system,
24:03but the core of it,
24:04the eye did not pass right over the island,
24:06which was really helpful for the situation,
24:08though it is now moving
24:09and people have to now deal
24:11with the aftermath of that system.
24:13The storm is getting stronger
24:15and expect to move toward the north and west,
24:17and as we go into the latter part of the week,
24:19we have to be on the lookout
24:20for the possibility of seeing the impacts
24:22into places like Taiwan,
24:24and so that's something we have to look out for,
24:26especially in the middle of the week
24:26with those winds really trying to pick up.
24:28Now, by the time it gets very close toward Taiwan,
24:30it's expected to back up
24:31and weaken just a little bit,
24:33but still expect to bring some stormy conditions,
24:36and so we'll have to keep an eye out on the system
24:38as it continues to move toward the north and west.
24:40As we look toward northeast Asia,
24:42we have a cold front that's pushing through Japan,
24:45and that's going to bring a lot of cloud cover
24:47and some rain chances as well,
24:50and that story extends over into portions
24:52of the Korean Peninsula and over into China as well.
24:56This is a long, snaking front
24:57that is extended toward the west,
24:59and so we'll have to see
25:01if we need to have those umbrellas out,
25:03especially to Shanghai and Beijing,
25:04looking at some wet weather coming up on Tuesday,
25:06Seoul and Tokyo looking mainly at cloudy weather
25:09as we go through Tuesday,
25:10but sprinkles are not out of the question
25:12as we have that front nearby.
25:14Looking at what's happening across North America,
25:16we do have Trudy just located down
25:18off the Pacific coast of Mexico,
25:21and as it continues to linger in the area,
25:23it's expected to bring some intense rainfall
25:24for the region.
25:26Relatively speaking around the United States,
25:29it's dry,
25:30and we're talking about some moderate weather patterns here.
25:3421 for the high in Atlanta to Oklahoma City
25:36into Denver as well.
25:37Los Angeles now into the upper 20s
25:39as opposed to the 30s
25:40that we were experiencing last week,
25:42and temperatures in the upper teens
25:43from New York into Washington, D.C.
25:44So it looks like fall weather
25:46is now spreading across North America.
25:49Hope you have a good day wherever you are.
26:19We'll see you next time.
26:35One more story before we go.
26:37Train enthusiasts gathered at a rail depot
26:40normally not open to the public
26:41in Guma Prefecture, north of Tokyo.
26:50The Jomo Electric Railway
26:52connects the cities of Maebashi and Kiryu.
26:55The operator opened its depot
26:57to the public on Sunday
26:58as part of its 100th anniversary.
27:01Visitors were offered the chance
27:02to use a train simulator
27:04using live-action video footage.
27:06They were also able to take commemorative photos
27:09while wearing railway staff uniforms.
27:14It was amazing.
27:16There were so many different places to see.
27:19I've actually been here before,
27:21but I had so much fun
27:22that I completely forgot about that.
27:24I want to explore even more places.
27:29A display from the railway's early days
27:31was also showcased at the event.
27:36All right, and that's all for this edition
27:37of Newsroom Tokyo.
27:39Don't forget, you can always catch
27:40the latest news on our website.
