Noctilucent clouds are very high ice clouds that reflect sunlight after the ground below grows dark. In the summer mesosphere, water can freeze around tiny particles left by meteors. Their electric-blue appearance brings together ingredients from Earth’s atmosphere and dust from space. They are seen most often at high latitudes in summer.
