00:00U.K. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said Britain should have an honest discussion about possibly restoring the European Union's
00:07free movement rules.
00:09He told British media that immigration has changed since Brexit and that people previously often came to Britain for a
00:16few years before returning home, meaning the so-called revolving door was not working anymore.
00:22Immigration was one of the main issues in the 2016 Brexit referendum when Britain's voted to leave the EU.
00:29Burnham has committed to his predecessor Keir Starmer's election-winning manifesto, which ruled out free movement with the EU, as
00:37well as single-market membership or a customs union.
00:40Any major change could therefore wait until after the next general election, expected in 2029.
00:47Burnham said he could not see himself recommending that Britain join the Euro or the Schengen area.
00:53He is due to meet EU leaders in Brussels on 20th of November to discuss closer ties.
00:59Reform U.K. leader Nigel Farage called his comments a total betrayal of Brexit Britain.
