Tamil Nadu police have arrested Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader and former state education minister Anbil Mahesh in connection with an alleged 100 crore rupee bribery case concerning private school approvals. The arrest came after the Madras High Court declined to grant him anticipatory bail. The case originated from allegations made by a former general secretary of an association representing private institutions, who accused an association president and associates of extorting around 100 crore rupees under the pretext of securing essential annual no-objection certificates, recognitions, and renewals for private schools.
