00:02President Trump is facing criticism, including from a former political ally, over his comments
00:07about Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.
00:10Trump was in Port Huron Sunday campaigning for Republican Mike Rogers, who's running
00:15against El-Sayed in one of the country's closest Senate races.
00:19During the rally, Trump called El-Sayed a jihadist and accused him of belonging to the
00:24Muslim Brotherhood.
00:24El-Sayed has repeatedly denied any connection to the group, and no evidence has been presented
00:30showing he's a member.
00:31Trump also questioned whether El-Sayed should have access to classified information if elected.
00:37Here's what he said.
00:38I'm here to keep a jihadist Muslim Brotherhood member from becoming a United States Senator,
00:47and that's the fact.
00:48We're not going to let that happen.
00:50He would be the only senator that will have to go through a metal detector before he's
00:54allowed to go into the Senate.
00:56I want him to have a metal detector.
00:59If Abdul gets to the Senate, he would have access to our nation's most closely guarded
01:06national security secrets.
01:08And his vote would wield power over our military, our borders, our homeland security, and much
01:14more than that.
01:15The comments drew criticism from Bashar Baba, a founder of Arab Americans for Trump, a group
01:21that helped the president win support from Arab American voters in 2024.
01:25Baba called the remarks, quote, out of line and racist.
01:29Rogers has also questioned El-Sayed's alleged Muslim Brotherhood connections, though he said
01:33Sunday he's never called his opponent a terrorist.
01:36El-Sayed responded at a campaign event of his own, criticizing Rogers for supporting Trump.
01:41So, with, with Donald Trump, you can't blame him for this.
01:46He's just dumb.
01:47You can blame him for the narcissism, you can blame him, but for Mike Rogers, can you imagine
01:52how small of a human being you have to be, to know that the man in front of you has
01:58real
01:59deficits, and to just nod your head approvingly at the most ridiculous shit that the man proposes.
02:05Rogers and El-Sayed are competing for the seat being vacated by Democratic Senator Gary Peters,
02:11in the last two years.
02:11Polls indicate the race remains close.
