00:00Independent Senator and Economist Dr. Marlene Atz says while T&T is in a technical recession,
00:07we can't debate away 13 years of weak and uneven economic performance.
00:13She was speaking on the 2027 budget in the Upper House today.
00:18And the projected 2026 decline in the ministry's review of the economy
00:23also reflects weaker energy and non-energy productive activity.
00:30It is interesting to note that the World Bank projected a smaller contraction in 2026 of 0.2%,
00:38and the IMF also forecasted marginal growth of 0.2%.
00:44But I think when we look at all of these figures together,
00:46what is contained in our review of the economy,
00:48what is said by the World Bank, and what is said by the International Monetary Fund,
00:52the forecasts may differ,
00:53but the reality is that none of these forecasts points to robust expansion of our economy.
01:02And I think that is where we should all agree.
01:06That brings us to tonight's PeopleMeetle.
