Advancing Business Education Through Research, Leadership and Mentorship

Dr. Anjala Krishen is an internationally recognized scholar, educator and academic leader whose career brings together engineering, business, consumer behaviour and higher education. As interim dean of Lee Business School, professor of marketing and Mel Larson Endowed Chair of Marketing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), she exemplifies the value of combining rigorous scholarship with educational leadership and practical engagement with the challenges facing individuals, organizations and communities.

Her professional journey reflects a multidisciplinary approach to understanding how people process information, evaluate choices and make decisions. With an academic foundation in electrical engineering, advanced training in business and marketing, and 13 years of prior corporate experience in engineering and consulting, Krishen brings a distinctive perspective to the study of consumer behaviour, digital marketing and marketing analytics. This breadth of experience enables her to connect analytical thinking, business practice and scholarly inquiry in ways that contribute to contemporary management education.

Through her research, teaching and institutional leadership, Krishen demonstrates how business schools can serve as important platforms for intellectual development, professional advancement and responsible decision-making.

___________

Research That Deepens Understanding of Human Behaviour

With more than 90 peer-reviewed journal articles, Krishen has established a substantial body of scholarship examining the ways people interpret information, engage with technology and make decisions. Her research contributes to the broader understanding of consumer behaviour and the changing relationship between individuals, digital environments and the marketplace.

This work is particularly relevant in a world where digital communication, data-driven marketing and rapidly evolving technologies influence how people discover information, form preferences and respond to new ideas. By examining these processes through systematic research, Krishen contributes to a more informed understanding of the behavioural factors that shape decisions across personal, professional and organizational settings.

Her publication on the use of virtual world technology for idea-generation tasks, co-authored with J. A. Nicholson, D. B. Nicholson, P. T. Coyle and A. Hardin and published in the International Journal of e-Collaboration in 2014

00:07Hi, everyone. I just wanted to thank you so much for nominating me for this Icons of Change
00:132026 award. Some of what this award stands for really spoke to me. So I wanted to sort of talk
00:19about three ways in which I feel like this is very meaningful. The first one would be just
00:24thinking about those sustainability goals and sustainable development goals. I have always
00:29wanted to work on pro-social research that has meaning and fits into what I believe to be
00:37sustainability and some of the most important goals that I have personally as well. So some of
00:42those that particularly are addressed in some of my research are quality education, first of all,
00:47because I obviously work for a university, but I've also done a series of pedagogical research pieces
00:52that work on contagious motivation, creativity in students and how to motivate students to be
01:00creative. A second thing that sort of has been a cornerstone of my career is leadership that I
01:06believe is by example, but also progressive. And the third thing that has been really critical to
01:14my position here as dean right now is mentorship. And I believe that both receiving and giving mentorship
01:22are very, very important to how leadership should work. And so in many of my research pieces,
01:29actually of the 90 odd that I currently have, 30, at least 30 are working with current students,
01:36both masters and PhD students here at UNLV, who have now grown to do their own academic careers and or
01:43business careers. I'm so happy to be representing UNLV in this way and Lee Business School. And thank you so
01:50much.
