00:00and she's joining us on the fan cam twitch and youtube danny serac here on 105.3 the fan good
00:06morning danny how are you good morning everybody i'm good i appreciate y'all having me on who was
00:11the best and worst person at dallas cowboys.com uh dave hellman brian broadest uh and who was the
00:19best no they were all great all great um a handful of them are no longer there but grateful for
00:27my
00:27time spent they're grateful for the people i worked with and people i learned from um i know
00:32mickey is still there he's still doing his thing but no a lot of a lot of great friends that
00:40are
00:40still over there did you ever get into a mickey like uh like most of us have uh no i
00:46don't think so
00:46i don't think at least the way most most of you guys have no i can't say that i have
00:51they finally
00:52got him the booster seat for the cafeteria that's an accomplishment if danny didn't mix it up the
00:58nicest people will mix it up with mickey at some point uh nate almost had to keep him and nate
01:03newton separated a couple weeks ago on cowboys crosstalk so danny you're doing the uh you're
01:08doing the a lot of different things now for arizona cardinals uh but you're also doing the uh christy
01:13scales role doing the sideline stuff there on the radio side what's the biggest thing we have to know
01:18about this cardinals team heading into this week the cardinals showed two weeks ago going into la
01:25against the rams that they are capable of playing with a tough play style and that they have the
01:31motor in them especially on the defensive side of the ball it was a different story against the
01:35broncos but they're capable of it and and they're coming off a game where it didn't look great against
01:41denver especially how they looked in la against the rams the week prior i think the cardinals team
01:46is capable of more than what their numbers or their records show um right now the offense is
01:53struggling to capitalize when they get inside the red zone although they're moving the ball down the
01:57field they lead the league with 12 um plus play drives there they've got the third most red zone
02:05drive so offensively the cardinals are moving the ball down the field the last two weeks they've just
02:09struggled on capitalizing when they get within the 20s but i do think the cardinals are capable of more
02:14than what their record shows danny is it one of those things where i've been obviously picking
02:18jeremiah love as high as they did and having the running back group that they do and um you know
02:24the head coach coming from a system that likes to run the ball is it a little bit odd to
02:29see that
02:30they're number one in pass attempts this year as a as a team have they not been able to get
02:34the run
02:34game going the way that they want to i think that's a fair assessment and they haven't been able to
02:39get the run game going the way they like look they used a lot of draft capital and a lot
02:43of money on
02:43jeremiah love and his ability to run the ball his ability to be a threat as a pass catcher and
02:49he's
02:49missed last two games with an ankle injury and he was picking up steam and looked better as the weeks
02:55went on until he got hurt earlier in the season but it wasn't a situation where they just plopped him
03:00in there and the run game was spectacular from week one it's something they're still figuring out
03:04every team deals with injuries is not an excuse but that's where a lot of the cardinals offensive
03:09injuries have kind of hit is in the offensive line and the running backs room you know they're
03:15without their starting left tackle and paris johnson jr he's done for the year they are now on their
03:19third string right guard because their starter isaiah adams remains on ir their backup john gains got
03:25hurt last week so hayden connor who's in the second year has very little experience in the nfl is now
03:31in
03:31that role and then of course not having love so it's been on tyler algier who the cardinals brought
03:37in that was kind of their big free agency signing this offseason and bam knight who has stepped up
03:42and honestly knight has looked good in the last two weeks he has showcased his burst his speed his
03:48ability to make a cut to get through a hole it's just a matter of having those gaps that are
03:52big enough
03:53by this offensive line and there have been moments where it's looked good against the rams like
03:59the run game looked really clean and it was more efficient than they had been weeks prior but that
04:05consistency hasn't quite been there the way they'd like on a week-to-week basis what's trey mcbride like
04:10he's to me by far amazing is he he's the best tight end of football it's not even close what's
04:16he like
04:18he's he's amazing trey mcbride is as a human being he's very approachable he's very kind he is very
04:26humble and down to earth and then he turns on a switch on game day and and i see it
04:33firsthand
04:33where i'm standing on the sideline he's the kind of player where he's not going to go stand still
04:37on the bench he's kind of always moving he's she's always keeping an eye on what's going on always
04:41trying to stay ready you can see it in his eyes when he puts on that game mode he's spectacular
04:48on
04:49the field it's it's been an incredible trajectory for someone who was drafted was the first traffic for
04:55the cardinals that year after trading away their first round pick for wide receiver hollywood brown
04:59mcbride comes into a cardinals locker room that still has zackerts who's getting all the reps mcbride's
05:05rookie year so he only gets a handful of snaps the last one or two games of the season he
05:12comes in
05:12there's a quarterback carousel as kyler murray's recovering and they're going through all these
05:16options and and he just continued to deliver the consistency is what is most impressive though is
05:22week after week regardless of who they're playing regardless of who is throwing the football
05:27mcbride is going to come in with every catch that comes his way he's got incredible body and spatial
05:32awareness as he's catching the ball of who's around him where are they coming from for how he can turn
05:37his body to get extra yards and i'm not exaggerating it takes on average two sometimes three defenders to
05:43bring him to the ground like his toughness his mentality to get extra yards once he's got the ball in
05:49his hands is on a different level and and that's that's been their go-to receiver even though he's
05:55a tight end he's been he's been their top receiver last year he's been the top receiver so far this
05:59year and usually that's not maybe what you want out of a tight end but when it's mcbride i i
06:05don't blame
06:06them with just how good he is danny serek with the arizona cardinals previewing with us here on the fan
06:12cam twitch and youtube on the home of the dallas cowboys before we get to arizona defensively
06:17you've seen all the trade rumors and the proposals and the hypotheticals possibilities
06:22and josh sweat is being brought up with the cowboys a lot give us a scouting report on josh sweat
06:29the
06:29player and the person and and what the trade talks are like over there in arizona that is a name
06:35that
06:36continues to come up um my understanding is i i'm not sure that those are necessarily coming from him
06:44directly in terms of walking into a building you know what walking into an office rather in the
06:49building and saying trade me somewhere now if his name is getting thrown around more times than not
06:57that that's coming from someone in someone's team right um so i don't have other other real strong
07:03details there other than like i don't know that i'd be surprised either way right like i wouldn't be
07:09surprised if that is just a rumor and it doesn't go through because sweat's name was a name that was
07:13going around when the cardinals went to green bay in the preseason for joint practice is that was a
07:18name that was okay josh sweat's just going to stay in green bay he's going to become a packer he's
07:22going
07:22to be reunited with jonathan gannon that obviously did not happen josh sweat is very very good at what
07:29he does it's taken him it took him a few weeks to just kind of get going because he didn't
07:34have any
07:35sort of training camp or off-season program because he was recovering from some injuries he hasn't
07:41disclosed what exactly the procedures were um but i know that last year he was playing through
07:46some tough injuries part of the reason that sweat has been at least statistically not where he's been
07:54in years past is because the cardinals have been playing from behind right and so when you're playing
07:59from behind an offense isn't gonna let a quarterback hang on to it and rip it and and that's really
08:03where
08:03a pass rusher can thrive offenses have been able to run the ball run the clock against the cardinals and
08:09you know generate rhythm and that does affect how a pass rusher gets to the quarterback but josh
08:14sweat is someone who is a hard worker he had a career-high dozen sacks last year so he's very
08:20capable of being effective i think they just need more from the defense and more honestly from the
08:26offense but points on the board to allow players like sweat to be more consistent and to be more of
08:31a
08:31threat on a down-to-down basis as a person i i love when i get to chat with josh
08:38sweat he
08:39it's it's funny when it's you know a player who can be as you know mean or intense on the
08:45football
08:45field and then they're like the complete opposite in the locker room when you talk to them and i feel
08:49like that's the conversations with josh is he's just such a nice guy he's a little more introverted
08:53actually but then he goes out on the field he turns it on danny what was different about the defense
08:59against the two la teams where they actually perform pretty well versus every other game where they're
09:06allowing 30 plus yeah that that's that's what's seems to be so frustrating is you know that this
09:14defense can be a lot better than what they've shown in those other games where they're giving up 30 plus
09:18points where they can't get off the field and and say what you want like week one against the chargers
09:23no no one knew what the chargers were really going to look like the rest of the first half of
09:28the
09:28season but to go out and perform the way the cardinals did defensively against it was the number one
09:33offense in the rams was very impressive they prevented matthew stafford from generating rhythm
09:39they completely took out two number one receivers and puka naku and davante adams from the game
09:43a lot of that was play style a lot of that was team speed of everyone being on the same
09:48page dc
09:49nick rollis earns a lot of praise for how unique he sets up his defense for the disguises he uses
09:55he
09:56doesn't use outside linebackers the way most other dcs do right like it looks like they're going to rush
10:01the passer and then they will drop back into coverage the way he utilizes his safeties and his
10:05dbs on the blitz in the box and against the rams in particular just seemed like everybody was on the
10:12same page of communication and pre-snap understanding and tackling was good and so when you don't have
10:19all of those things on every play the execution is where it lacks um again non-excuse dealt with some
10:27injuries last week they were without former first round pick walter null in the third who was dealing
10:32with an ankle injury so he wasn't able to play against the broncos their secondary has been
10:37completely banged up between the cornerbacks and the safety room so they're trying to get some
10:41players back trying to adjust from there but the play style and the communication and honestly the
10:46tackling is what really stood out against the rams their anticipation on certain plays to force
10:51turnovers things that we'd seen in in pockets maybe in other games all came together in a cohesive
10:57manner and then it didn't look the same against the broncos and and to be able to do that again
11:03against
11:03the number one offense the rams and not be able to do that against what was the 31st offense against
11:08denver is where they need to kind of find that middle ground being able to perform at that high level
11:13regardless of who their opponent is danny has there been chatter about a carson beck sighting
11:19are we going to get a start from him oh has there been chatter in the valley about quarterback
11:25carson beck yes that that has been a hot topic sorry one more time on the field or off the
11:32field
11:33on the field yes on the field um yes no no nothing off the field with carson beck um by
11:38any means so
11:39far and i understand why um when the offense is struggling everyone wants to look for a change and
11:47they get all the criticism they get all the praise but a lot of that conversation goes around
11:51quarterback jacoby bursette and of course the fact that arizona used their first pick in the third
11:56round on carson beck i i don't i don't think that his role as the emergency third quarterback changes
12:06this week in part because the last now two weeks beck has been dealing with some back spasms that have
12:11kind of appeared i i assume out of practice we didn't really get a specific detail on how they appear
12:16just that they've kind of happened so i don't expect beck's role to necessarily change against
12:21the cowboys whereas the third emergency quarterback he can only go in if the first two quarterbacks ahead
12:26of him get hurt that being said i think it's fair that if the cardinals continue to play
12:34not good football if they statistically find themselves out of the playoffs by end of november
12:40early december i think it makes a lot of sense to see what they have him back for the future
12:44you know bursette i think has outside of of what you might see from the numbers or the record
12:50i think bursette has done good things for the offense like he's a big quarterback he stays in
12:56the pocket he's not afraid to take the hit and let the route develop before letting go of the ball
12:59part of that has been some heavy quarterback pressure that's been in a dirty pocket for him
13:04or drops by the receivers but it's also no secret at his age when you look at his contract bursette
13:10is not
13:11the future of the franchise right like that that's that's not a secret or a surprise to hear
13:17so you you do want to see what you have in back right like if if things were to end
13:22today and the
13:23cardinals had a top pick in the draft they need to know whether or not they feel like they need
13:28to
13:29pull the trigger on a quarterback or not so i understand that i i'm personally above the camp where
13:34i think it has been you know there were a lot of a lot of fans a lot of people
13:39out here who are
13:40wanting to see back starting week three week four week five and when you've got a first time head
13:46coach a new head coach in arizona like looking back into last year's record doesn't matter to him
13:53and and he spent all offseason game planning with bursette and what this offense would look like so
13:58i'm i'm not surprised we haven't seen back yet just as they're trying to ride this out and see what's
14:03possible something else to keep in mind is the cardinals have struggled offensively in a couple of
14:09different areas and running the ball stretching the field with the receivers keeping a cleaner
14:15pocket and putting in a a different quarterback one and two a rookie quarterback who yes has
14:21experience in college but in the nfl has what two quarters of play against third string carolina
14:27panthers in the hall of fame preseason game you don't want to do a disservice to back and put him
14:32in a spot where he's not able to be successful danny fantastic stuff thank you so much for the early
14:38wake up there in arizona cowboys.com fans are remembering you and saying i was always a big
14:43fan of hers thank you so much we appreciate it hey i appreciate you guys having me on i always
14:47look
14:47forward to this matchup and getting connect with you guys and the fans again so thank you
