This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the weekend 29/10/2026. The weekend starts on a foggy note for many, although sunshine should break through as the day goes on. Halloween night will be wet in the northwest, but elsewhere it's largely dry. However dense fog patches are expected to form once again overnight. Bringing you this weekend’s weather forecast is Honor Criswick.

00:00Hello there.
00:01A much more settled weekend ahead.
00:03We've traded low pressure for high pressure, but that does mean some foggy nights will
00:08be creeping in.
00:09Now let's take a look at the picture to end on Friday.
00:12High pressure out towards the east.
00:14Low pressure tries to push its way into the northwest, but it bumps up against the high
00:17pressure.
00:18So that means any rain associated with these weather fronts will linger for much of the
00:22day on Saturday across Scotland and Northern Ireland, eventually clearing its way southwards
00:27on Sunday, but it becomes a very weak feature by that point.
00:30And then high pressure soon building in behind.
00:33And this is what's going to stick with us over the coming days.
00:37Now to start with on Saturday, as with high pressure, we do see some more clearer skies
00:42and with an easterly flow, we see more moisture.
00:44So that does mean it is going to be quite a foggy start on Saturday, probably a lot foggier
00:49compared to what we may see tomorrow morning.
00:51So much of England and Wales will start off with some dense fog, southwest England as well,
00:56perhaps a foggier start compared to what we'll see tomorrow.
00:59Some of this may be slow to clear, so if you are travelling around first thing on Saturday,
01:03perhaps leave a little bit of extra time for your journey.
01:06But once it does clear, it should end up being quite a nice day, mostly dry, plenty of sunshine
01:10by the afternoon.
01:11But a very different story towards the northwest, where that front stalls, so western areas
01:16of Scotland, some areas of Northern Ireland could see quite a wet day through the course
01:21of Saturday, quite breezy as well underneath the rain.
01:24Temperatures are touched down as well compared to what we'll see tomorrow, but still highs
01:28of around 14 to 15 degrees Celsius.
01:31But where any fog lingers, that is where it's going to remain rather chilly.
01:35Now, of course, Saturday is Halloween, so I'm sure many of us will be heading out trick-or-treating,
01:40so I thought we'd take a look across the UK to look at the various weather conditions.
01:44So still, this front will be lingering towards northern and western Scotland, but across
01:48Aberdeenshire, eastern Scotland and across the south, it should be a dry end to the day,
01:53perhaps some lower cloud pushing in a little bit later.
01:55Also some light outbreaks of rain drifting their way south and eastwards across Northern
01:59Ireland.
02:00But actually, elsewhere, it should be fairly dry to finish off the day.
02:03But some low cloud eventually starting to creep in quite early into the evening across
02:08east Anglia, south-east England, perhaps areas of London as well.
02:11And this is the theme as we continue overnight as well, once again, some quite dense fog patches
02:16in places, especially across rural prone areas.
02:19That front slowly sinking its way southwards, but it becomes very weak by the time we reach
02:24Sunday morning.
02:25So some spots of rain towards northern England, perhaps just pushing into north-west Wales,
02:29but for most, remaining dry, just a few showers going towards the far north and north-west
02:34of Scotland.
02:35But actually, skies turning a lot clearer across Scotland, Northern Ireland, so that means
02:38on Sunday morning, probably a chillier start, especially across rural areas, temperatures dropping
02:43a touch lower compared to towns and cities.
02:46But across the UK, most towns and cities reaching around 5 to 6, possibly 7 degrees Celsius first
02:52thing on Sunday, so a little bit chilly in places.
02:54And once again, that fog could be slow to clear, especially towards the south of that
02:59front and across the far south and south-east, that fog could be slow to clear and still
03:04some spots of rain as that front slowly progresses its way southwards, though many areas should
03:08remain dry.
03:09But likely, some more clearer skies developing towards northern parts of England, Northern
03:13Ireland and also areas of Scotland towards the end of the day as that front clears.
03:18And notice a shift in our wind direction as well, a bit more of a north-to-north easterly.
03:22That's going to cool temperatures down towards the north, still holding up to around 15 degrees
03:26Celsius towards the far south-west, depending on how much sunshine we see.
03:30And once again, where any fog is slow to clear, that is where it's still going to continue to feel
03:34quite chilly on Sunday.
03:36Now, as we progress into early part of next week, high pressure still stays with us, so
03:41that means many areas will remain dry, settled during the day, but it does mean we're likely
03:46to continue to see those foggy nights.
03:49And of course, initially it sounds like good news that many areas will remain dry, all thanks
03:53to high pressure.
03:54But don't forget large areas of England and Wales are still in drought conditions, if not
03:58severe drought conditions, so we'll certainly be keeping an eye out for any rain in the future.
