00:10It's so weird being my own role model, you know I recommend it.
00:13My advice is always just like not to focus on anyone telling you you can't do anything
00:20or the politics of your situation, but to just focus on the situation and sort of to
00:25think of yourself as not a woman, not a minority, not skinny, not whatever. Just think about like your art.
00:31I'm like very smart and successful and I'm hot but I like don't even know which makes me even hotter.
00:35Women, especially young women, especially young women of color want to see someone on TV who is
00:40not playing a terrorist or someone in IT but is someone good who makes good decisions and is a
00:47good mother and wife and girlfriend and teacher and leader. I am a hot smart woman with an ass that
00:52doesn't quit. I had to go through the heartbreaking experience of sitting in a room with other much
00:59thinner much more traditionally attractive young women and so I was forced I was sort of pitted
01:06against other women who were auditioning for the role of Mindy Kaling. I wear these outfits and stuff
01:12and it's like this weird I live in this because I'm not skinny but I'm an actor which is virtually
01:16that never happens in the world of like regular sized people but I also am like the recipient of
01:21like a lot of kind of backhanded compliments about it where people are like it's so nice that Mindy
01:29Kaling doesn't feel she needs to subscribe to the ideals of beauty that other people do.
01:36And I'm like I do subscribe. I am not overweight I fluctuate between chubby and curvy. By the way
01:42I like run and work out it takes a lot of effort to look like a normal slash chubby woman.
01:48Being
01:48called fat being called not pretty these are just weapons that men can use against women that we can't
01:53use against them. I am fairly impervious to when people say those things about me because it's like
01:59well I was born this way and I can't really change that. I was told that they don't put girls
02:05who look
02:06like me on TV. I guess they can't say that anymore.
