00:00Women are smart and strong.
00:02They are not sex toys or damsels in distress.
00:06Year after year, those women have sat at auditions
00:08for parts that are girlfriends and sidekicks and fun neighbors.
00:14And for the first time ever, all three of those women have their own shows.
00:18Yeah, you see Taraji Henson get up and cheer when Viola wins
00:21and you see Carrie in tears when Viola wins
00:23because they've all been together for so long.
00:25And to be able to applaud one of them getting up there
00:28and winning that award is everything.
00:31A lot of people dream, and while they are busy dreaming,
00:35the really happy people, the really successful people,
00:38the really interesting, engaged, powerful people are busy doing.
00:43A dream job is not about dreaming.
00:46It's all job, all work, all reality, all blood, all sweat, no tears.
00:52I work a lot, very hard, and I love it.
00:56I was born after the Civil Rights Movement.
00:58I was a toddler during the Women's Movement.
01:00I live in the United States of America.
01:02All of which means I am allowed to own my freedom, my rights, my voice, and my uterus.
01:07People of color are not sassy or dangerous or wise.
01:12And believe me, people of color are never anybody's sidekick in real life.
01:17The idea that we should normalize television
01:20and make it look like the world you see when you go to the grocery store
01:23shouldn't be revolutionary.
01:24And the fact that it is still that way, that we are still sort of dragging television
01:29into a place that it should have been at least 40 years ago
01:32is a problem and is sad, but we're getting there.
01:35All the greeting cards are about sacrifice.
01:37Have you noticed that?
01:38Mother, you gave up so much for me.
01:41Where is the greeting card that says,
01:43Mother, you taught me how to be a powerful woman.
01:45Mother, you taught me how to speak up for myself and not back down.
01:48Those are the greeting cards that should be out there.
01:51Those are the qualities that we would want for our daughters to have.
01:54I don't want my daughter to grow up and think I should shrink
01:57and be in the background.
01:58I should be selfless.
01:59I should be sacrificing.
02:01I should be silent.
02:02I continue to be thankful that I love my job.
02:04I continue to be thankful that I live in a country in which
02:07powerful women get to do this job,
02:10and I get to take the fact that being powerful and badass
02:12is something I can have as just my right.
02:15You can still wake up one day and find yourself living a life
02:18you never even imagined dreaming of.
02:20My dreams did not come true,
02:23but I worked really hard and ended up building an empire
02:27out of my imagination.
02:28So my dreams can suck it.
