00:00You had a great start.
00:01You're scoring goals you couldn't last year.
00:03The problems are different than they were,
00:08but the main problem is just consistency and winning.
00:12And it looked like last year at the beginning of the structure was there.
00:16Couldn't find the back of the net.
00:18They're scoring.
00:20Some guys aren't scoring.
00:21Are we built now to score five a night?
00:24Is that how you're going to try to win?
00:26Welcome back to Up in the Blue Seats,
00:28your favorite Rangers podcast from the New York Post.
00:31As always, it's Molly Walker and former Ranger Brian Boyle
00:35coming at you with another week of thoughts on your beloved blue shirts.
00:40And speaking of beloved blue shirts, we lost one last week.
00:44My former Up in the Blue Seats co-host, Ron Duguay,
00:47passed away on October 22nd after a battle with colon cancer at the age of 69.
00:53Just such devastating news for all of us here at the New York Post who worked with him.
00:58For the Rangers organization and longtime Rangers fans everywhere who got to experience just the
01:05complete and utter stardom that he brought to Broadway.
01:09Obviously, I grew up on stories about Ron Duguay from my mom, who we all know is his number one
01:15fan.
01:15And that was one of my favorite memories and episodes of the show,
01:20was bringing her on camera to meet him for the first time.
01:24And he was just always so kind to her after that, and I always appreciated it.
01:29So we just wanted to pass along our condolences to his friends and family,
01:33and he will be greatly, greatly missed.
01:37Can I add, Rick?
01:38Of course.
01:39Yeah.
01:41He loved being a Ranger, right?
01:43Ron Duguay loved being a New York Ranger.
01:45And he was just, I got to just, I got to spend some time with him because he would,
01:51he'd be around when we played.
01:52And then when I was done playing and doing the alumni things, the guy's a legend and so magnetic.
02:00When you're in a room with him, I mean, eyes are drawn to him.
02:03It's just, he is such a handsome guy, charismatic, smiling always, that smile and that warmth he brought.
02:13Hell of a career, hell of a guy, but just my first alumni game, we're playing the Islanders,
02:20we're out in Long Island, and I don't really know many guys.
02:23And he just right away came over and made it so comfortable, was so curious and asked so many questions
02:31about so many different things, like a variety of topics.
02:37And just, we're aligned on a lot of things in terms of like health and wellness and what was, you
02:43know,
02:43it was just a pleasure to get to know him a little bit in those moments and tried to get
02:50me to more alumni events,
02:52wanted to bring me into the fold.
02:53Yeah, welcoming guy that was, he was, man, he was great to me.
02:59And it was really sad when he was fighting, the attitude he had when he was fighting is to be
03:06commended
03:07because, I mean, oftentimes, and I'm not going to go too long, but oftentimes people will say they, you know,
03:15they lost their battle with cancer.
03:17And I don't, I don't think that's how, I don't think that's the case with Ron.
03:22I don't think that's the case with a lot of people.
03:23Like, we're all, we're all going to die at some point.
03:26How you go is, is remains to be seen.
03:30But like, he won that battle.
03:32Like cancer is not a fair fight.
03:34He never at one point, at any point wavered when I communicated with him.
03:39Uh, it's, it was brave what he did.
03:42Posting photos like that's brave.
03:43Asking for prayers humbly is, is brave.
03:46And he, he fought, he fought like he always did.
03:50Tough dude.
03:51So again, like Wally said, thoughts and prayers to his family and his loved ones
03:56and everyone that cared for him and were inspired by him.
04:01Yes.
04:01Well said, Brian.
04:03Well said.
04:05Um, tough week for the Rangers though, to move on here.
04:09They're, they are on a three game losing streak going into this sort of bi-week that they
04:16have five day schedule, five day break in the game schedule.
04:24They don't play again until Sunday when Connor McDavid and the Oilers come to town.
04:30Uh, but to recap, sorry, it's a tough transition, man.
04:37We've had a, we've had a run over here.
04:41We're just, uh, trying to focus on hockey as much as we can.
04:45But anyway, uh, to recap the week, obviously Rangers lost to Toronto five, four.
04:53They lost to Ottawa seven, four lost to the Kings at home to end their undefeated stretch
04:59six, three outscored 18 to 11 over that span.
05:04And then they fall to seven, six and one on the season after that six and two start.
05:11Brian, how do you recap the Rangers week and in Canada and back at home?
05:18Um, I don't know.
05:19I don't know if you're hoping that there's a letdown from Ottawa after the Brady game.
05:24Ottawa looks like they're a real team in a really tough Atlantic.
05:28Uh, I, geez, they fought and clawed to get back in that Toronto game.
05:34And then Troy Stetcher of all people just goes bar down and with 26 seconds left in the game.
05:42And you're like, you just did so much, um, to claw your way back in.
05:48And that puck gets deflected a little bit.
05:50Stetcher's first goal.
05:51And I think 30 plus games ends up scoring again the next night, by the way.
05:55And he's actually got quite a few points.
05:58He's been a nice story in Toronto.
05:59If you're a fan of the Leafs, which none of the people listening are, um, and then the LA one
06:07is, is tough because there would be concerns, even if you come back and you beat an LA team that
06:14can't score.
06:17And you're eight, five and one.
06:19Right.
06:19It'd still be like, well, you're winning at home.
06:21Okay.
06:21That's fine.
06:22But like, what's going on in the road?
06:23There'd still be concerns, but then like you give up three in the first, I get it.
06:28It's an impossible situation for Reimer, but I don't know what you were expecting with James Reimer.
06:33I don't know what you're expecting.
06:35And he's not like this super durable guy.
06:38And look, he's, he's in his late thirties.
06:41All due respect to him.
06:42He's playing in the league.
06:43Yeah.
06:43He's back in the league.
06:44He's playing.
06:44He's worked hard.
06:45He played well in Hartford, but I don't know what you're expecting there.
06:49And he kind of gets hurt, pull, shoot.
06:52And then it's, you know, we were back to where you were.
06:55And, and, you know, bread man comes in off the post and in scores, Laviolette's back, wins the game back.
07:01It's kind of like, if you're eight, five and one, and you have this long break and you can reset,
07:06I think it's easier to stomach right now.
07:09Again, you're over NHL 500, but it looks like the devils are coming.
07:15It looks like Washington's starting to figure it out.
07:16We all know, I think Carolina is the best team in the league.
07:19So I just think, I know it's super early.
07:23It's not yet Halloween, but I don't know if four teams, I actually know four teams.
07:29I would be shocked if four teams from the Metro get in.
07:32Yeah.
07:33Like there might be six teams in the Atlantic better than three teams in the Metro.
07:36Yeah.
07:38So you had a great start.
07:40You're scoring goals.
07:41You couldn't last year.
07:42The problems are different than they were, but the main problem is just consistency and winning.
07:51And it looked like last year at the beginning of the year, the structure was there.
07:55Couldn't find the back of the net.
07:57They're scoring.
07:59Some guys aren't scoring.
08:00Are we built now to score five a night?
08:03Is that how you're going to try to win?
08:04I don't think anyone thinks that's feasible.
08:08There's one team in the league that might be able to do that.
08:11And they don't even want to do it in Edmonton, who, by the way, are coming Sunday and playing.
08:17So you get this long break.
08:18Yeah, that's good.
08:19Reset work on some things, but there's an intensity that you take that many days off.
08:25It's rest versus rust.
08:27And that will be a significant challenge.
08:32Yeah.
08:32And I mean, I guess to start with the James Reimer game, that's the second big transaction that they made
08:41this week.
08:41They signed Luke Lindenning off his PTO to a one-year, $850,000 deal, only two games so far for
08:49him.
08:49But then they signed James Reimer to the same deal after he played one game for Hartford on a professional
08:57triad.
08:57It was a 35-save shutout in that game, and then the Rangers signed him to give Dylan Garand a
09:03breather after seven straight starts.
09:06And it really did not carry over to the NHL level.
09:10And Reimer gave up two goals on the first two shots he saw, gave up three on eight shots he
09:16faced all in all, and got the hook in the first intermission.
09:19And Dylan Garand has to appear in a ninth consecutive game.
09:24Anyway, I mean, you touched on it, but I guess just how did you see the situation that the Rangers
09:30were in and their decision to go with Reimer there?
09:34Desperate times, right?
09:36Desperate times.
09:37You're on your third goalie, who now you're overworking.
09:41You have to do something.
09:42You need a warm body in there.
09:45Yeah.
09:47It's tricky because none of these are, well, Igor obviously is.
09:50It's season ending, but, you know, Corpo Salo is what it is.
09:54And it's like, all right, there's a finish line there.
09:57At some point, he's got to be able to come back.
09:59Now, is he going to give you some solid starts at this point?
10:03Because he's no spring chicken either.
10:06So, you have to find a stopgap, just a warm body that can maybe, and the messaging from coaching staffs,
10:14I can almost guarantee is like, we have to be dialed in, really structured, make his night as easy as
10:19possible.
10:20And even then, it might not be enough.
10:22Proves it isn't enough.
10:23Yeah.
10:24No.
10:24And I think that Sullivan was very accountable after the game as well.
10:29He flat out said that I put him in a tough spot, and that's on me.
10:34But, I mean, this is a situation where they clearly don't trust Spencer Martin, even though they trusted him more
10:41than Dylan Moran just last year.
10:42So, I don't know.
10:44But, I mean, would they have just been better off?
10:48I mean, granted, it's a league minimum deal and, you know, one that they can have in Hartford just to
10:53have more depth.
10:54But, you know, would they have just been better off saving their money for potentially another goalie down the line?
10:59Or is the question, you know, do you think going out and getting a better, more established energy goalie at
11:04all is worth their while right now?
11:06Because I'm just, I'm not so sure that it is, just because of two things primarily.
11:13Number one being they haven't looked at Corposalo yet.
11:16I know I agree with your assessment, but if he is following the initial timeline that he was given, he
11:23could be back as soon as the Rangers' next road trip beginning in Seattle next week.
11:27So, whether he takes over as number one or he splits with Garand or is number two for Garand, whatever
11:32it is, there's still a possibility, I guess, of stabilizing in net.
11:37But the other one is being, as I don't even know if this lineup is worth investing in a better
11:41goalie, if it's not going to matter with the way that the team is playing in front of him.
11:47I mean, are they going to give up whatever they're going to give up for one season of Jordan Binnington
11:52or commit to taking on Anthony Stolarz at 3.75 for the next four seasons, including this one?
11:59I mean, that might make more sense if Corposalo definitely doesn't work out, but my point is, I think the
12:05Rangers will wait to see what they have in Corposalo before making any definitive decisions at the goaltending position, I
12:12think.
12:13Unless, of course, there is a deal before then that they can't pass up, but I think it's still too
12:19early to be thinking that way.
12:24How do you see it?
12:25Yeah, you know, it's tough.
12:27It's like, so now you just added two contracts, you get 50 contracts.
12:31Yeah.
12:32So I don't know where they're at, but they got to be close to 50 if you just added two
12:35in the season.
12:36Yeah.
12:37And that is almost like cap space in terms of you want some flexibility there.
12:45For Bennington, you're going to have to, yeah, exactly.
12:49For Bennington, and let's just leave it at, like, if you got Jordan Bennington,
12:54and my, what I think of Jordan Bennington is, I don't know if it's like, he gets bored with
13:04the moment when it's not a big moment.
13:07Yeah.
13:08So the prospect of him coming to MSG and playing for the Rangers on the last year of a deal,
13:13I think you'd get a really good version of Jordan Bennington.
13:17Could be fun.
13:18Yeah.
13:19Um, and we've seen what he's capable of plays the puck.
13:24Well, he can do different things that fit, uh, Igor stopgap for a year, give him a chance
13:31to go get another ticket somewhere else and get his game back.
13:38If you're the St.
13:39Louis blues, you're dealing from the position of strength there as well.
13:43It's like, all right, well, what are we getting for him?
13:46And you can get something for him.
13:48Yeah.
13:48So I don't know what the, the ask would be.
13:52I don't know what you'd have to give up, but if you could give up.
13:55That's what I'm saying.
13:55And you've, you've just started sort of putting some foundational pieces in your pipeline in
14:01terms of prospects.
14:02Yeah.
14:02Are you going to pull those out for a one year thing with Bennington?
14:05Exactly.
14:07That's the hard question, but they're trying to make the playoffs this year.
14:11So you get Bennington, you're going to lose assets and then you still have a Reimer and
14:16you still have Glenn Denning and you still have Martin and you still have Grant and you
14:22still have Corpus Allo and you still have, you certainly still have Igor.
14:25Yes.
14:26And yeah, so it, it's a really, it's just an impossible spot to be in.
14:32It is.
14:32It, how you navigate through this, if you're Chris Drury, I'm just interested to see because
14:42it's an impossible, it's an impossible spot to be in.
14:45And it's also, I feel like one of those types of situations where you do kind of have to wait
14:51and see a little bit, but you also have to be proactive and you can't wait too long, you
14:58know, so that the move that you want to make that could potentially help isn't, is no longer
15:03an option or is no longer going to make the difference that you need it to.
15:07But I just, I mean, we will go into more of the specifics of the losses, but I just, I
15:15don't see goaltending as their biggest issue right now either.
15:19I would say that of their last six losses, two of them, goaltending was a major factor.
15:27I think that Garand definitely didn't have good rebound control against Toronto.
15:31And that's part of the reason why it turned into a bit of a track meet there.
15:36And then obviously the Reimer game, giving up two goals on the first two shots, it's impossible
15:41to come back from that.
15:42It's, it's a really difficult hole to get out of and to snap the team out of.
15:47So those are really the only two, you know, and when you look at their whole body of work,
15:53there's plenty of other places of blame to be distributing than just in goal.
16:00So I'm not even so sure that dedicating assets toward bolstering in goal is even worth it at
16:07this moment in time for this Rangers team.
16:10Yeah, they're, they're at a bit of a crossroads.
16:13There's some, it's odd because there's some good, some bad, you know, laugh spin putting
16:19up points, even Adam Fox has been putting up points.
16:21I don't, I mean, I don't know, but I can't imagine Fox is thrilled with his entire, the
16:28entirety of his game right now.
16:30Um, but that's also, I'm looking at that, you know, with respect to him, I I've seen
16:39him take some chances and be out of position, but you got to look at time and score and some
16:45of those and be like, well, maybe he's trying to get something going because they've been
16:49up for and they're chasing to, and it's four to two or whatever it is, whatever it may be.
16:54Um, and it, it seems like maybe there's more, and if it's coming from him, it's definitely
16:59who's the most cerebral guy and, and, you know, knows what he is and is always in really
17:06good spots.
17:06He defended his year last year, I thought was a great answer to some of the questions
17:10around him, whether he made the Olympic team or not.
17:13But, you know, he, he's fascinated me his whole career.
17:16I've always, I've always loved his game, but maybe he's trying to do more and that turns
17:23into him doing too much.
17:24Um, I, I like JT's game right now.
17:29He's being physical.
17:30He's hard.
17:30He's going north.
17:31And he likes it too.
17:32He told me he, he likes the way he's playing too.
17:35I can't, I can't find any faults with it.
17:37Yeah.
17:37It's just the lack of production, which he said he's trying not to focus on because he feels
17:43like ugly goals.
17:44They're all going up his foot, which is like, that's what you have to do when you go cold
17:47a little bit and they're tinkering, you see them tinkering, they're moving things around.
17:53That probably, they'll probably shift some things in the back end.
17:57Hopefully this break gets Jersey to a hundred percent or close to it.
18:02No one's at a hundred percent already, which is the sick thing.
18:05Just remembering like game three and you're like, oh no, I have a hip thing or whatever.
18:09Or it's like only six months and I'll feel 80% again.
18:14I'll feel back to myself.
18:16Yeah.
18:17So that's the cross the league.
18:19So it's no, you can't make any excuses for it.
18:21It's just that foundational five man mentality where they were all over.
18:29Like you look at the lightning games, they were in five man units up and down the ice,
18:34never chasing the game.
18:36And the hardest thing to do is even if you're down, like you can't just like, if we score
18:42first, we lock it down and do this.
18:43You have to have that same, cause that created offense for them.
18:46And I know Mike Sullivan has preached that if we're in the right structure, we will create
18:50offense, even from our own end.
18:54Continuity helps that.
18:55I get it.
18:56If it's not working, you have to make some changes, but they have to find some continuity.
19:00They have to find some sort of structure where guys know where they're going to be at all
19:05times.
19:07Yeah.
19:07I mean, they've now lost five of the last six.
19:10They've, I feel like they just have veered so far from what was working for them earlier
19:16in the season.
19:17I feel like they've lost some of their clean breakouts and transition game from zone to
19:22zone.
19:23That was working like a well-oiled machine for the first five games.
19:28It just feels like a trudge again, moving the puck up the ice.
19:33And I feel like the strong starts have completely dissipated after they.
19:38Don't underestimate the power of Igor and his puck.
19:42Of course.
19:43Yeah.
19:44I know.
19:45I don't, I don't, I don't disagree that that has factored into it, but even when it's not
19:53coming from below the goal line, it just feels like it's been so much more of a trudge from
19:58zone to zone and the starts, I mean, they were running teams over after puck drop, running
20:06them over and that's just, oof, it, that, that to me is, is just the craziness and probably
20:15the most frustrating thing about this Rangers team is to see the capability and to see it
20:22in full force.
20:24And then to just watch it slowly flip game by game.
20:29It just, I know.
20:30We know what it looks like when it's working.
20:33They got no swag right now.
20:35That's so frustrating.
20:37It's really, it's, it's really frustrating, Ryan.
20:40I mean, I like you, cause what do you attribute that complete slip, slipage to?
20:46You can't say that it's all because Igor is in a net.
20:51Like you just, it, it, it just doesn't make sense.
20:53You can't say that that is the number one reason because.
20:57Well, I mean, there's a lot of different, there's a lot of different, and I don't think
21:01it's the same thing every night.
21:03Like you mentioned two of them on goaltending out of the last six.
21:06Well, yeah, that's still two games in six that you're like, all right, well, Hey, listen,
21:10if it was two games and they played great.
21:12And then it was like, they played great in four.
21:15Or you could play great hockey games and just not get the result too.
21:19So maybe our concern is, is, you know, the other three games that didn't go great were
21:28not great by anyone's estimation.
21:30So it's not always that you lose, it's how, um, if you could take two of them and throw
21:36them out because of goaltending, I think you can do that for the players.
21:40That's four points.
21:42If they have those two where I look like it looked like they had jumped, they had
21:46pushed back to like, I'll, I'll take it back to, I'll take it back to the Columbus
21:53game where they lost one, nothing in overtime.
21:55Uh, and just, it was an ugly, not a clean game for either team.
22:01It was physical, but I don't think they were the better team.
22:07They did have a few chances, but I don't think they were the better team.
22:10And I was like, you should be furious that you weren't the better team.
22:15This Columbus team is hanging on by a thread.
22:18Correct.
22:19Um, and that's a, I liked that Columbus team.
22:21They're a hard nose team.
22:23If they played well to start the year, I would not have been surprised, but I just think their
22:28bar has to be higher.
22:29They need to expect more out of themselves when it's not going right.
22:33You can nip it in the bud quicker because you're like, we are the New York Rangers.
22:37And these are the players we have.
22:38JT Miller.
22:39We have Mika Zubanjab, Adam Fox.
22:41You know, you have Dorfev, you have Lafreniere's playing great.
22:45There's guys there that are really good players in this league and they should know that.
22:50Get your swag back a little bit.
22:52Yeah, I also feel like part of it is also the fact that Mike Sullivan and the coaching
22:58staff are clearly still figuring out their best combinations and alignments for everything.
23:06I mean, from the forward lines to deep hairs, power play units.
23:10I mean, Sullivan has made some very specific changes, but I feel like you can tell he's
23:14not really convinced in a lot of areas.
23:18And we've seen the movement that enforces that, I think, and things like switching Bjorkstrand
23:23from the fourth line to the second line, Dorofiev getting bumped to the third line.
23:27The power play positions have been on a rotation, basically.
23:30He's made in-game changes on D with Dursey and Schmitz and Pedersen and Schneider.
23:36How do you see all this movement, Brian?
23:39And is there anything you feel strongly about that you think it should or shouldn't be?
23:44Oh, the next one you could do is, I think, flip-flop, Gavrikov, Pedersen, which did early
23:50in the season, game two or three, maybe.
23:52I don't know.
23:53It was, and you have guys, you have more depth at the position this year, I think, so you
23:59can, guys can play with different guys.
24:03And as that goes, they'll be comfortable doing that in-game, you know, for a period for a stretch
24:09of three or four shifts, if there's a power play, if there's a penalty, you know, eventually
24:14that, the more games, the more that works itself out.
24:17It's worked in Bjorkstrand's favor.
24:18You see, obviously, he didn't want to be on the fourth line.
24:21He has worked.
24:22He's been noticeable in his effort level.
24:24And, you know, he's probably like, again, I was on the fourth line of Tampa, but that,
24:29you know, that was Tampa.
24:29We had these guys.
24:31I'm not a fourth liner here.
24:32And he's shown it, right?
24:36Yeah, I mean, I think if Noah Lava scores one goal, maybe he relaxes a little bit.
24:43Yeah.
24:45But again, he's still a young guy in the league.
24:48He was great, a bright spot last year because the expectations, right?
24:52But now it's like you're, you have these abilities and a year under your belt, he can improve.
25:01So, last year, it was like, throw stuff at a wall and just see if anything can stick.
25:08This year, there's just, there's more depth.
25:13So, I think it can be fixed, which is why it's like, when it's not, why are we figuring
25:18this out still?
25:19But they're still above 500.
25:20It's just not going great right now.
25:23No.
25:24But that's, I think, why it's also just, it's the feeling of it.
25:28It's the feeling of, of watching these last few games of feeling like it's slipping and
25:33it does have this potential to continue sliding, I think.
25:38Well, those wounds, those wounds haven't healed all the way, Molly.
25:41Last couple seasons.
25:43No, no, they are fresh.
25:45They are raw.
25:46They are fresh and raw, Brian.
25:50But things like, I don't, I don't know how I feel about putting Dorofaev on the third
25:54line so soon, mostly because I just, you want to keep him with guys who can compliment his
26:00game.
26:01I don't know if Cooley and Lava are facilitating or playing the way that they need to, to help
26:08Dorofaev out of this little, whatever he's going through.
26:11Because you can't even really call it a slump because the chances are coming.
26:17He's generating, he's there.
26:18He's probably leading the whole league in post-crossbars hit at this point.
26:22It's definitely possible.
26:24He's got to go out before practice and hit the net.
26:27Yeah, my question is, I mean, three goals and 14 for him, but at what point do you start
26:35to consider this to be a major concern?
26:37Because if it keeps trending the way that it is, it obviously does eventually.
26:41And I think you mentioned you minus 13 already before we even started recording.
26:46On a plus team.
26:50So, I mean, I don't, I don't really buy into plus minus all that much anyway.
26:55Yeah, but that's a number and that's a big number.
26:57It kind of jumps out at, yeah.
26:59So, yeah, look, he needs to put the puck in the net.
27:01That's why they got him.
27:02And that is a high pressure situation for an athlete.
27:08It's why they gave you $11 million.
27:10That's what the money is for.
27:12Yeah.
27:12That's what the money's for.
27:13You know, uh, John Hamm.
27:15Love it.
27:16It's, it, it's, that's it, man.
27:19You gotta, especially in the big city, man, it's gotta go in the net.
27:23And I saw one arm Marion Gabrick score 20 in 60 games and just get roasted his season
27:31after he got 40 and then got 40 again.
27:35And like that guy was a gamer.
27:38And I think Dorfeov could be a gamer too.
27:40I just, it's gotta go in the net for him and relax.
27:44Don't press.
27:44You can, the guy can go and score seven goals in eight games.
27:48He can do that.
27:49That's why I've seen him do it.
27:50It's getting the playoffs.
27:53Yeah.
27:53He's just gotta get hot.
27:55Yeah.
27:56I don't, and I agree with you.
27:57Like, I like Lava.
27:59I like Cooley.
28:00I don't know if they're strongest points of their game or cerebral.
28:05Yeah.
28:05Yeah.
28:05I just, I don't think they're, I don't see the line.
28:08Like I don't, I just don't, I don't, I don't see it there.
28:12So it just kind of felt again, like throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks type
28:17of situation, which is not a situation you want to get into when you have much higher
28:21hopes for this group.
28:24And we were also talking about just the fact that I don't think any, any of Dorfeov's goals
28:30have come at any substantial time.
28:33Um, yeah, I like have actually, they've come when the game has been out of hand already.
28:40So it's, you can't even put substance in them because of that.
28:43So it's, it's a tough situation.
28:45When you're a goal scorer, it matters.
28:46You have to.
28:47Yes, you have to.
28:48Yeah.
28:49The 6-1 goal against Jersey.
28:51I'm like, that's, that could be big.
28:53That could be big.
28:56People are like looking at me like, you're crazy.
28:58I'm like, you don't know.
28:59I've been around some of these guys.
29:02Gabby had 38 goals one year.
29:04He comes to practice with a new stick, new company, new curve, new blade, everything
29:09new.
29:10We're in line.
29:10Like, what is he doing?
29:12There's like 12 games left.
29:13Yeah.
29:13He's like, I don't like that stick.
29:14I'm like the one you've used your whole career, score 40 goals every year.
29:17What are you doing?
29:20It was like six games without a goal.
29:21Like get out of here.
29:23Someone hide him.
29:24Go steal his sticks.
29:25Get rid of him.
29:27Goal scores, man.
29:29You need them.
29:29You love them.
29:32They're finicky, so it could be big.
29:34No.
29:34Yeah.
29:34It's definitely something to monitor, but I definitely think, you know, even half of those
29:41posts hit, go in.
29:44It's a different situation for the Rangers, perhaps.
29:47Definitely a different situation for Pavel and his start to the Rangers.
29:51So something to monitor going forward.
29:54The other thing is, Dersey is clearly battling something right now.
29:59He's taken a few maintenance days, and I've seen a lot of commentary debating whether a
30:05healthy Scott Morrow would or should be a better option than a clearly hampered Sean
30:11Dersey as a player.
30:12Well, what's your stance on that, Brian?
30:15Well, we don't know what's going on in that room.
30:17For Morrow, it's poor guy probably wants to play.
30:21And I know Mike Sullivan spoke on it.
30:24Yeah.
30:24We don't know what's going on in that room.
30:26We don't know how banged up anyone is.
30:29It's, and I just, if I was good enough to play, I was playing.
30:34It's like a yes or no.
30:36It's not, don't give me a percentage.
30:37It's a yes or no.
30:37And usually it was a yes.
30:39There were a lot of days where it was a yes.
30:41And then you're like, you're in pregame warmup and you're on the ice and on ice warmup.
30:47And you're just like, can we please get going here?
30:49You're like asking your knee or your hand or your shoulder or something like your back.
30:53I'm like, just get loose.
30:55Just try to get through this game without being a complete liability.
30:59But that's what we do.
31:01You see Brian Boyle whispering to his shoulder on the warmup.
31:03Yeah.
31:03Yeah.
31:04You're just, or like you get to a point where you're like, all right, it's not going to get better.
31:08What can we, and then you're just thinking, how can I put myself to, you know, and there's so many
31:15guys that do that.
31:16That's not something just, I did.
31:18I mean, so many guys you have to, and then that game ends.
31:22It's just like, all right, got another one tomorrow.
31:24And you're just like, all right, let's get this thing going here.
31:28Yeah.
31:29No, I mean, clearly, I mean, Jersey, you could hear it, see it in any interview.
31:34He's ready to lay his life on the line for the New York Rangers.
31:38So I think it's not surprising at all that he's been trying to push through this.
31:44But yeah, I mean, hopefully with a five-day break off the ice for a couple days here, that helps
31:51Sean Dursey.
31:52But yeah, I mean, Sullivan has acknowledged it himself, just how strong that pair was defensively through the first few
32:00games.
32:01And for whatever reason, it's just been a struggle the last five or six years.
32:08So the duality of this team, man, it is puzzling, to say the least.
32:15Just puzzling.
32:16The rest will help them.
32:21Maybe not right away, but they'll wither this.
32:25Let's vibe it out, Molly.
32:27We got to vibe it out.
32:28So the vibes are, vibes are sinking.
32:33The vibes, we talked so much about the vibes to start.
32:36And it's got to have good vibes.
32:39They're hanging on for dear life right now.
32:41I think they're hanging on.
32:44But I, I, I don't think it's, you know, a boomer size.
32:49It's over.
32:50It's over.
32:51The season's over.
32:53That's it.
32:53Throw in the towel.
32:55No.
32:55Did he do that again?
32:56No.
32:56He did.
32:57He did.
32:58Oh, come on.
32:59Boomer.
33:01We know, we all, we all know and love Boomer.
33:04There's 900 games left.
33:06Major, major Ranger fan.
33:08I, I get it.
33:09Like, I get, I get how you can feel that way.
33:13It's hard not to.
33:14When, when you look at the last couple seasons of this Rangers team, it's hard not to.
33:20But I'm not there yet.
33:22I get, I get why Boomer is, but I'm, I personally am not there yet.
33:27I think that this little reset here could be good for them.
33:31It has to be, it just, it just, it just has to be.
33:36Cause I also wonder, you know, things keep trending in this direction.
33:40Do they, what do they do with, with the 10 million and cap relief they're going to get
33:44from Igor?
33:45Or will it even matter?
33:48Yeah.
33:48I mean, who knows?
33:51The was, I know they played 14 games and not everyone has, but the funniest thing is if
33:55you go on NHL.com they're in the playoffs right now, no, they had a really great start to
34:07the season and it is definitely, you know, alleviated some of the veering straight down
34:15that they have done in the last week or so, so that they have kind of evened itself out.
34:23But yeah, they got to get back to doing what they were doing earlier in the season.
34:28I mean, start games on time again for crying out loud, bare minimum.
34:35Yeah.
34:36Yeah.
34:37I mean, it's, you can't get running around, just have that structure.
34:42The chasing they've been chasing the last.
34:45Yeah.
34:45It's, it's usually guys trying to do too much.
34:48You know, I've seen laughing the D zone run around a little bit.
34:51It's caused some confusion.
34:53I have some patience.
34:55That's what I'm talking about.
34:55The vibes of swagger.
34:56They need like, all right, less is more sometimes.
35:00Don't everybody go off and veer off on your own page.
35:03You need to still have that cohesiveness.
35:07It can be boring and ugly.
35:08Even that Columbus game that I wasn't thrilled about.
35:12They got a point.
35:14They got to figure out how to win on the road.
35:17They'll be fine at home.
35:18They'll figure it out back.
35:19You win a couple of road games and you're, you know.
35:22They can't buy a win at home and now they can't buy a win on the road.
35:26Yeah.
35:27It's going to come together nicely at the right time.
35:29You got to believe it.
35:32You got to believe.
35:34All right.
35:34Four games in the next week.
35:37Edmonton at home on Sunday.
35:40Blues on Tuesday.
35:42Philadelphia on Thursday.
35:45And then on the road to Seattle before the Western Canada swing, which is always.
35:53Anyways, it's funny, I forget who I was talking to, but that Western Canada swing, man, it's a lot different
35:59than it was just a few years ago.
36:01Like now the Rangers should be coming out of that trip with at least two wins.
36:11Well, Anaheim can't beat Vancouver, which is the funniest thing ever.
36:15They lost to them again.
36:15They've won twice in 16 tries Calgary and this Cooley kid in net, Devin Cooley, who is the funniest.
36:23Try to get an interview with him.
36:27They, they just win all the games now.
36:30Edmonton is scary.
36:32I don't get why they go to Seattle and then to Edmonton and Calgary and back to van.
36:39They did that last year.
36:40It's because the schedule creators hate us.
36:43That's why.
36:43They did that last year.
36:44It's crazy.
36:45I'm going out.
36:46I'll be at the game on the fifth and then head out for three of them.
36:50I'm not going to head back to van.
36:52I'm heading to a hockey tournament in West.
36:58Where am I going?
36:59Fort Lauderdale.
37:00Where am I going?
37:01Florida.
37:02Nice.
37:02So that's great.
37:03But I'll be there in person this road trip.
37:08All righty.
37:09We need good vibes for that.
37:11Well, make sure you pack them in your suitcase, Brian.
37:14Right?
37:14I always listen.
37:16You've seen me on the road.
37:18I'm a good vibe guy.
37:21Brian has always good vibes.
37:23All right.
37:23I think it's a good place for us to stop.
37:26Give us a like and a thumbs up.
37:29Comment down below.
37:31Where's your concern-o-meter at with the New York Rangers?
37:35Where do you think Pavel Dorfeev's game is at?
37:38What should the Rangers do in goal?
37:40Do you have faith in Dylan Garan?
37:42Should they go out and get somebody else?
37:44Say Jordan Biddington.
