00:00My first gold in Vancouver, after I crossed the line, I mean, I wailed like it was a spiritual cry.
00:08It wasn't cute. It was it was my heart crying because my brother was so present that day.
00:18And my brother was murdered in 2009, which was just six months before I was set to compete at the
00:292010 Games in Vancouver for alpine skiing.
00:33It was very much like my spinal cord injury in that I didn't want to live anymore.
00:49I just wanted to quit so many times. And I remember thinking, like, my brother was my biggest fan.
00:55I mean, he authentically delighted in my accomplishments.
01:00He would see the medals I brought home and just be so stoked.
01:05It was it really lit him up. He was so proud of me.
01:09So I forced myself to keep going. And I used him as my inspiration.
01:16Every day I got on the hill and there were so many beautiful moments I got to share with him
01:22alone, just at the top of a mountain.
01:25And I asked him for strength and continued to pray for him to be my purpose.
01:34And I put it in his hands. I said, brother, I can't do this without you.
01:48I don't even know if I processed whether or not I had won that gold medal.
01:53I sure remember feeling my brother's presence and it was powerful.
02:02So I cried. And, you know, it was it was the most memorable moment of my life.
02:12It was kind of a Cinderella story. I I was there as a rookie on the team and I left
02:19as the most meddling athlete of the 2010 games.
02:22So I said, Lord, I'd love you to miss any moment of my book.
02:27I take care.
02:29I know that you will shine.
02:39Oh, God.
