00:00Ruby red lips have been a secret weapon for centuries.
00:03But after taking a backseat to glosses, lipstick is bright, bold, and back.
00:08Whatever the shade, matte won't fade.
00:10This is the way that lipsticks are made.
00:13The journey of a lippy to your lips begins with a pigment.
00:16There are thousands to choose from,
00:18but it's how you combine them that creates the perfect shade.
00:23Go ahead, wear red.
00:25A touch of pink is nice, we think.
00:27That bright blue will look great on you.
00:30So here comes the science.
00:32Three solvents, their proportions top secret,
00:35are combined with a special powder.
00:42This is where the magic happens.
00:49At this point it might look smooth, but it's far from ready.
00:54Into the roller it goes.
00:57Nobody likes a gritty lip.
01:01Wax gives the lipstick body a little something to hold onto.
01:05In order for the mixture to melt, it has to bake for hours.
01:10Whew, it's getting hot in here.
01:11Once the wax is melted, the lipstick is ready to take its final shape.
01:20As it cools, the lipstick solidifies.
01:23Excess product is scraped off.
01:28The next part of the process is designed to get the sticks into the applicators without ever being touched.
01:44Not every stick is perfect, and some just don't make the cut.
01:54Here we go, everybody out.
02:10Here we go, everybody out.
