00:00My name is Joanna Torino and I'm the creator of the Unapologetically Brown series.
00:03The Unapologetically Brown series is a street series, community series, whatever it takes
00:10series with the intention to empower communities of color.
00:14Why not take stories from the street and from the hood, real people, and put us on posters
00:20and put us on the street because nine times, ten times out of ten, we're the ones that
00:26we made all that stuff poppin' in the first one, so...
00:39The intent of this work is to empower people of color, but specifically I wanted to try
00:45and grab that young femme woman of color who hasn't necessarily felt like represented or
00:51validated in an everyday space that we take up.
00:54I think the work can be political in the sense that it's political because our existence
01:00is political.
01:01I don't know how I could create without bringing attention to what's going on around us.
01:05All right.
01:34music plays
01:36for us by us.
