00:02My name is Mary Margaret Grove and my artist-in-residence is called Ready to Move.
00:11The first time I started painting with my body was a really visceral reaction for me.
00:21I loved exploring how my body could be a mark-making tool.
00:29I think the biggest barrier to art is this idea that you have to make something amazing.
00:36I tend to paint about really vulnerable parts of myself such as my sexuality and really trying
00:46to get in touch with my feminine power.
00:50I grew up in the South and I was taught to be a proper young southern belle with my legs
00:58crossed and my pearl earrings on and I realized with art that I am not that, I'm something
01:05a little more wild.
01:07Art has been a really amazing way to explore all those different sides of me that are not
01:15what I was told to be.
01:18I feel most creative when I'm dancing.
01:21I'm allowed to do whatever I want to do.
01:25Sometimes in painting I get attached to the end product and with dancing I allow myself
01:33so much more to just be in the process.
01:40I really hope that people can feel like art is accessible to them.
01:44I really hope that they can get it out of their brain that they have to make something
01:49beautiful and perfect and that they can just play and they can experience and get lost
01:57in what they're making.
01:58I really hope that they can do it.
