Experimenting with bright colors, glitter, and different uses of makeup, Mi-Anne goes out of her comfort zone this week with 7 days of beauty trends.
Transcript
00:00Hey guys, it's Mi-Anne and this is Beauty With Me.
00:02For those of you who don't know, I'm a beauty writer here at Refiners29.
00:05It's what I do other than doing this show.
00:08And last year, I did a story where I tried 30 different makeup trends over a month and a half
00:13long period.
00:14I decided to recreate the experiment.
00:16This week, we're going to do seven different trends from the red carpet, from Instagram, and from Fashion Week.
00:21Some of them are really simple. Some of them are really crazy.
00:25I'm going to save the best, most outrageous one for last.
00:28And without further ado, let's get on to day one.
00:33Day one is glossy lids inspired by makeup artist Celine Bernards, one of my favorite, favorite makeup artists on Instagram.
00:41I started by taking my Huda Beauty Desert Dusk eyeshadow palette.
00:44I used a flat eyeshadow brush to put a layer of amber and saffron onto my lids.
00:51Then I used a fluffy blending brush to blend it out.
00:55Then, I tightlined my eyes using my Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in the shade Blacker, just to give
01:01my lashes a little bit more oomph.
01:04Next, I followed up with a new mascara, actually.
01:07It's by CoverGirl.
01:08It's called the Peacock Flare Mascara.
01:09It is in the waterproof formulation.
01:12Then comes the fun part, the gloss.
01:14I used the Glossier Lip Gloss.
01:16It's a great lip gloss to use on the eyes because it has a very ultra shiny, almost glass-like
01:23finish.
01:24So I just took it out of the tube and using the doe foot applicator, I put a bit of
01:28the product onto the back of my hand.
01:29Then I used a finger to just layer the gloss on top of my matte eye until I was happy
01:35with the amount of shine.
01:36I finished off the look with a layer of my Kat Von D Sudded Kiss Cream Lipstick in the shade
01:41Lolita 2, which is a beautiful, matte, creamy nude.
01:45I know that my lips are very dry right now, so please excuse any of the flakes.
01:54I love this look.
01:55It was a really great way to start off my seven days of trends.
01:59I've been wanting to wear a glossy eye all over the lid all day for a while now, and I'm
02:04glad that I finally did it.
02:05Although I will say, glossy eyes, despite how easy they are to do, are really annoying to maintain throughout the
02:13day.
02:13If you wear eyeglass, your eyeshadow is going to crease, it is going to melt a little bit.
02:19Even though it was annoying, I really enjoyed the look, I would definitely wear it again.
02:24Day 2 is the Glitter Cut Crease, inspired by my friend Mariam, who is an influencer on Instagram.
02:29I started with the CoverGirl Micro Fine & Define Brow Pencil in the shade Soft Brown to beef up my
02:35brows.
02:35Apart from the glitter cut crease, Mariam did a really gorgeous halo eye.
02:40So I grabbed my Milani Obsessions eyeshadow palette and laid down a base of this matte mid-tone brown shade.
02:48Then I took the matte black shade in the palette and applied it to the inner and outer thirds of
02:53my eye,
02:53making sure to keep a little sliver of bare lid in the center.
02:58I grabbed the silver and the navy blue metallic shadows in the palette and mixed them and tapped them onto
03:03the center of my lid with my finger,
03:05and then blended it out.
03:06Then I moved on to eyeliner.
03:07I grabbed my black pencil eyeliner and traced that on my bottom lash line and smoked it out with the
03:14same mid-tone matte brown eyeshadow.
03:17To finish off the liner, I grabbed my Dior Liquid Liner in black and did a little cat eye.
03:22And then for the fun part, I grabbed my glitter.
03:25I used the Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in the shade Glamrock.
03:30I used that to draw a small cut crease so it actually wasn't a full cut crease,
03:35but it did stop kind of in the center and it still gave the illusion of having a cut crease
03:39there.
03:40After the glitter finished drying, I grabbed the Ardell Magnetic Accents Lashes.
03:45I didn't actually use them the way they're intended to be.
03:48They like adhere on their own without glue, but I actually just wanted to use them as normal lashes.
03:54So I used some duo lash glue, apply it to the lash band, let that dry,
03:58and then I stuck them on my lid and they laid down so easily.
04:01I finished off the look with a little bit of the Marc Jacobs Liquid Highlighter
04:05and then some of my Kat Von D Sutted Cream Lipstick in Lolita 2.
04:13Although I wouldn't do this look every single day, I would definitely wear it again,
04:17maybe just without the eyelashes.
04:19I don't understand how people wear false eyelashes every day.
04:22I could not wait to take them off.
04:24It was a very dramatic experience, but still.
04:25All in all, I think I liked it though.
04:30Day three is Monochromatic Gold Highlighter inspired by Rihanna's Fenty Beauty Launch.
04:35I reached for my Milani Bold Obsessions eyeshadow palette, which if you can't tell, I am obsessed with.
04:41I just used the mid-tone brown shade in my crease just to blend things out
04:44before I used an eyeshadow brush to brush the highlighter onto my lid as eyeshadow.
04:49The highlighter itself is super pigmented, so it's a gorgeous gold that you can kind of wear everywhere.
04:55And then I used the same highlighter with a dense highlighter brush
04:59and dusted the color on my cheekbones and up into my temples.
05:03It was kind of intense, but I blended it out, left it alone,
05:07and tight-lined my eyes with some of my black eyeliner pencil
05:10and finished off with some mascara and lip gloss.
05:13This lip gloss is so beautiful.
05:17The thick doe foot applicator makes it really easy to slap the gloss onto your lips.
05:23So this look was pretty simple,
05:25but I do think that if I were to do it again,
05:28I wouldn't go so intense with the gold shade.
05:32I think in the future, I would go for a sheerer layer and then do the same thing on the
05:36eyes.
05:37I love the eyeshadow on the eyes.
05:38But I've seen Oriana do the same kind of draped highlighter technique with purple highlighter,
05:43and I love that look.
05:44So I might try that one next.
05:47Day four is two-toned lips inspired by Cousine Ayotte's Spring 2017 Fashion Show.
05:53The makeup artist was Sammy Morabit.
05:55All the models were wearing a shimmery taupe shade on the lid,
05:59so I used the same Milani palette in the shade Suede side to side all over the lid
06:03and blended that into my crease using the matte mid-tone brown shade.
06:07Then I finished off the eyes with a couple of coats of my Shiseido Full Lash Multi Dimension Mascara
06:13in Waterproof and moved on to the lips.
06:16I grabbed my Cap-on-D lipstick in the shade Underage Red and applied that to the top lip.
06:23Now this is where things get hairy.
06:25It is a little bit difficult to resist the urge to smack and rub your lips together
06:30when you're doing a two-tone lip.
06:32You can't do that!
06:33And then you have to remove it with a wipe, which I did.
06:36I used my Rodin lipstick in the shade Winx,
06:39and then I just slicked the color onto my bottom lip,
06:42and then again, you're going to want to rub your lips together, but you can't!
06:48Then I tapped a little bit of Marc Jacobs Gel Highlighter onto my cheeks
06:52just to gloss it up a little bit, and then I went on with my day.
06:58Honestly, it was a very simple look.
07:00When you do smack your lips together, it's pink and red,
07:02so it actually became a nice little mixture of the shades.
07:05Nothing too crazy.
07:07Definitely would wear it again.
07:0810 out of 10 would recommend to a friend.
07:11Day 5 is Thumbprint Liner, inspired by Lady Gaga's Grammys 2017 makeup look by Sarah Nicole Tano.
07:20I started off by using my Marc Jacobs Scandalous eyeshadow palette,
07:23and I used the matte burgundy eyeshadow all over my lid as a base.
07:28Then I grabbed my Marc Jacobs eyeliner in the shade Fine Wine,
07:32and used that to create the shape of my rounded wing.
07:36I continued to create a round half circle shape upward toward my eyebrow,
07:41and then brought the color back down to my eyelashes.
07:44Then I filled in the rest of the rounded liner using the same eyeliner pencil,
07:49and then set it with the same Marc Jacobs eyeshadow.
07:53Then I moved on to the other eyeshadows.
07:55So I grabbed the metallic burnt orangey shade and tapped that onto the center of my lid.
08:01I grabbed my Urban Decay heavy metal glitter in the shade Midnight Cowboy,
08:04and dipped the brush into another gold glitter that had a little bit more of an orange tone.
08:10I applied that to my lid, and it created a little bit more of a burnt orangey gold.
08:15For my inner corner, I used the same Marc Jacobs eyeshadow palette,
08:18and tapped a shimmery cream eyeshadow into the inner corners of my eyes.
08:22Then followed up with the same Marc Jacobs red eyeliner on my lower lash line,
08:28and smoked that out using the matte burgundy shadow.
08:31Lady Gaga had a layer of kind of flesh tone eyeliner on her waterline,
08:36so I grabbed this Dior cream colored eyeliner and put that onto my waterline.
08:41To define my eyes, I used the Dior waterproof liquid eyeliner, and created a teeny tiny cat eye.
08:48To beef up my eyelashes, I used a few individual lashes.
08:52To blend the individual lashes in my normal lashes, I used my Shiseido waterproof mascara again,
08:58and finished off with the Bite Amuse Bouche liquefied lip in the shade Supreme.
09:04This look was really fun. It's definitely one that I would wear again.
09:08I'm really into burgundy shades. I love wearing glitter.
09:10So this look was definitely up my alley.
09:12I think I was a little scared of doing eyeliner that was round.
09:16I've never done it before, but I don't want to toot my own horn, but I think it came out
09:20pretty well.
09:21Day six is cotton candy eyes, inspired by Oscar de la Renta's fall-winter 2017 makeup look
09:27by makeup artist Tom Picher.
09:29So to create the baby blue that Bella has all over her lids, I actually mixed a couple of shades.
09:35So I used my NYX jumbo eye pencil in the shade Milk, just like a matte white,
09:39with my Kiko eyeshadow crayon in the shade 44.
09:43I put it all over my lid, blended it into my crease,
09:45and then I set it with a MAC eyeshadow in the shade Aqua.
09:50Then I used the MAC chromographic pencil in the shade Process Magenta to line my lids,
09:55and then topped it off with a Manic Panic eyeshadow in the shade Pussy Galore.
10:00Then I finished off the whole look with a layer of lip gloss.
10:06I love this look.
10:09I would wear it again tomorrow and the day after and the day after that.
10:12I love the combination.
10:13I love the pink liner with my pink hair.
10:16It's just gorgeous.
10:18And I think anyone can pull it off.
10:21And last but not least, day seven is graphic liner and flash tattoos inspired by Dior Haute Couture's 2018 show.
10:29The makeup was done by Peter Phillips.
10:30So I used the Dior waterproof liquid liner, which was the brand they used in the show because it was
10:35Dior.
10:36I started off by creating a very basic black cat eye, but instead of stopping where I normally would,
10:40I extended the wing up and toward the tail of my brow.
10:45Then I created a reverse cat eye on my bottom lash line, starting just below my lashes,
10:52drawing it all the way down toward my eyebrows,
10:55and then created an elongated wing toward the tail of my brow as well,
10:59leaving some space between the cat eye on the top of my lid and the reverse cat eye on my
11:04bottom lid.
11:05Then came the hard part.
11:07I had to create the little spikes on both sides of my eyeliner.
11:14So I used the same liquid liner.
11:15I drew an elongated triangle starting at my lash line and extending into my crease.
11:21Then I repeated the same step a few times until I got to the end of my lid.
11:26Then I did pretty much the same thing on my bottom lash line, but the triangles themselves weren't as thick.
11:32I started at the inner corner of my eye and went all the way down to the tail end of
11:35the wing.
11:35Then to finish off the eyes, I used the Creme Dior Coal Liner on my inner corner of my eye,
11:42and then onto my waterline, and then in between the two wings.
11:46I repeated all those steps on my left eye, and by the end of it,
11:50I was very, very excited to be done with the look.
11:53I put a little bit of mascara on and topped off my lips with a little bit of gloss.
11:56But it wasn't even over then. There was more to the look.
11:59So I used some temporary tats from this brand called Tatly.
12:02I chose a set that says, Don't Just Stand There, which I thought would be appropriate
12:06because I was anticipating some weird looks when I wore this outside.
12:10So I just cut them into little pieces and stuck them on my collarbone.
12:15I tapped some water onto each of the tattoos and then lifted it off to reveal my message.
12:31After I finished the look, there was really nothing left to do but wear this look outside.
12:37This look was so out of my comfort zone.
12:40But honestly, the feedback I got from it was really positive.
12:43I went outside to fashion week, did a few things there.
12:46Some street style photographers actually wanted to take my picture.
12:49It was so cool. All in all, this experience was so fun.
