00:01A peck, a smooch, a pout, a smile.
00:05We all want lipstick that lasts a while.
00:08So go ahead, just pick your shade,
00:10and come along to see how this lipstick is made.
00:15Lipstick can be traced all the way back to ancient times.
00:19Ancient Sumerians used to crush gemstones and other rocks
00:22to decorate their eyes and lips.
00:24Ancient Egyptians are believed to have crushed bugs
00:27and other creepy crawlies to add a tint to their lips.
00:31Luckily for us, we no longer need to resort to insects
00:34for a pop of color.
00:37Bite Beauty was founded in 2011
00:39and already has made a splash in the world of cosmetics.
00:42They invited us behind the scenes
00:44to see how they make their liquid lipstick.
00:51The first step is to make a smooth base
00:53consisting of oils and liquids.
01:02The hero of the day is Manoy Butter.
01:06Manoy Butter is special
01:07because it melts at the temperature of your lips,
01:10ensuring a creamy, liquid texture when you apply.
01:16Once all the oils and butters are melted,
01:19they are mixed in with pigments
01:20to give the lipstick a signature color.
01:23Pigments are weighed out precisely and combined.
01:28The magic happens here when all the pigments are turned together.
01:38Presto! A pop of pink to brighten any smile.
01:45This is called a milling machine.
01:48The tension and speed of the three spinning rollers are precisely adjusted,
01:52making sure there are no clumps or unmixed pigment in the mixture.
02:01At first, the texture seems thicker than you would imagine.
02:06But each time it runs through these pins,
02:09the consistency becomes smoother and shiny.
02:20That looks more like it.
02:25The final mixture is fed into this machine,
02:28which fills up 12 bottles at a time.
02:30The final formula is kept warm in the suspended kettle,
02:34and the precise weight desired is dispensed into the tubes.
02:52Over the course of a day,
02:53over 10,000 tubes of liquid lipstick are filled.
03:01One by one, each of these little guys is boxed into their signature packaging.
03:05Although packaged by hand,
03:07Byte can package over 5,000 of these a day.
03:10That is pretty impressive.
03:13Now all that's left is for you to open, apply, and enjoy.
