00:00I think my go-to favorite look is definitely what I have on right now.
00:03A focus on skin, brows, a good lash, and a nude lip.
00:07I have a birthmark kind of in this area.
00:10Without makeup on, it's very, very prominent,
00:12so I used to be very embarrassed to go outside without makeup.
00:16As I got older, I just kind of learned to embrace all of my insecurities
00:20because whether I love them or not, they're still going to stick with me.
00:24I wear my skin proudly outside, and I just try to ignore the haters.
00:29I'm someone who really enjoys taking off my makeup.
00:32I find it's very therapeutic for me.
00:34I never go to sleep with my makeup on.
00:37That is like a no-no in my book.
00:39This is going to be a little bit different.
00:42I normally obviously don't have my hijab on when I'm taking off my makeup,
00:46so it might be a little bit difficult getting around the edges,
00:49but we're still going to do it.
00:50So I'm going to be going in with the Pharmacy Green Clean Makeup Melt-Away Cleansing Balm.
00:56It is kind of like a thicker balm, and when you put it on, it just melts away your makeup.
01:00I first started wearing makeup when I was 12.
01:04Going into high school, I got my first foundation
01:06because I obviously couldn't afford the high ends.
01:09I went for a drugstore, and the thing about drugstore makeup back in the day
01:13was that they never really had a shade for me,
01:15so I always thought because they didn't have darker shades,
01:19then I would now have to use a lighter shade.
01:22I still wore it. I thought I looked great, but over time, you know,
01:26through watching YouTube videos and just kind of loving my skin a lot more,
01:30I found products that worked for me better.
01:33I have like molten chocolate all over my hands right now.
01:36I am going to wipe this mess off.
01:38Try not to get it all over my scarf.
01:42When I first started wearing makeup, I got into blue eyeliner and blue eyeshadow,
01:46so now when I look back at photos, I'm like, girl, what is you doing?
01:50But I loved it, and I didn't let anyone tell me otherwise.
01:54Thank God I got better because if I was still doing that like blue smokey eye, that would not be
01:59cute.
02:00Thing with cleansing balms too is that sometimes the balm gets in your eye.
02:04I'm like, can I see right now?
02:06They're a little blurry, but we're good.
02:08I always go and double cleanse.
02:10So this one is by Skinfix.
02:12It's their foaming oil cleanser.
02:14I'm just going to apply this onto the skin so that you can get the rest off.
02:18Now, I'm not going to say I wasn't confident.
02:19I was a confident little girl, but in terms of like looking at magazines,
02:23I never saw anyone who looked like me.
02:25I always thought maybe I'm never going to be beautiful enough for the standard of America.
02:30Nowadays, I think it's so great that little girls, little black girls, black Muslim girls
02:36can grow up and see people in the magazine or online or on YouTube that look like them.
02:41I really hope it's not just a trend right now.
02:44And that it's something that sustains itself over time because that has definitely been needed.
02:50Straight after cleansing, I always have to go in with a toner.
02:54And this just kind of like rebalances the skin and makes sure that the tightness is gone
02:58and gets rid of any other makeup leftover.
03:01Back when I was in elementary school, I loved playing sports.
03:05But, you know, the thing with being outside all the time is that I would get so dark.
03:10And because I wear the hijab, there would be this like really, really deep, deep hijab tan line.
03:16But anytime that I would take off my hijab and I'd be around family,
03:19they would always call me a certain word in my language.
03:22Shankilla. Basically, it means like dark girl.
03:24It was a very negative connotation and I hated that.
03:27It kind of like deterred me from playing sports because I didn't want to be outside and I didn't want
03:31to get darker.
03:32Because for whatever reason, people didn't think that was beautiful.
03:35People in the West go to tanning beds.
03:39But the second you're dark skin and you're darker than you're supposed to be, it's a bad thing.
03:44I always go in with an essence.
03:46This one is my personal fave.
03:47It's the Fresh Black Tea Kombucha Facial Treatment.
03:51There is just so much in the air that is so bad for your skin.
03:55So this basically just kind of acts as a shield.
04:01So the next step for me is serums.
04:04I have two over here that I like to mix.
04:06And the first one is the Caudalie Vino Perfect Serum.
04:09And then the second, which I also really, really love and have been using for a long time,
04:12is the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair.
04:15And this one just has like hyaluronic acid.
04:17So it really plumps and hydrates the skin.
04:20In the Caudalie one, it just kind of gives that beautiful radiance.
04:23I have a lot of hyperpigmentation around my mouth and a couple dark spots.
04:27So it really helps to lighten those as well and just kind of overall give you a glow.
04:31When I personally started my YouTube channel,
04:35I was probably one of the first women of color hijabis on the platform
04:39because I realized no one online kind of looked like me.
04:42And it's so beautiful to finally be able to see us be represented
04:45and be happy and flourish and glowing and just, just killing it.
04:51So next step is moisturizer.
04:53It's the Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream.
04:56And it's really cute because it has its own little spatula up at the top.
05:01Although there has been a lot of amazing, beautiful representation,
05:05we definitely have a long way to go.
05:08People always say, well, if you're wearing the hijab, why are you wearing makeup?
05:11I wear makeup because it makes me feel beautiful because I enjoy it.
05:15Over the next couple of years, I would really just love to see the makeup shaming stop.
05:19So finally, I know you guys are probably like, how many products does this girl use on her face?
05:24I use a lot.
05:25I like to go in with an eye cream and then a lip balm so that my lips stay nice
05:29and juicy
05:30and my eyes are nice and plump when I wake up.
05:32For eye cream, I use the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Eye.
05:35For lip balm, I use the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask.
05:38This is my go-to lip sleeping mask.
05:46You guys can now see the birthmark that I was mentioning earlier.
05:49I did not love it.
05:50I was looking into ways that I could get rid of it.
05:53But the second that I kind of just changed that mindset and looked at it as a way that makes
06:00me look different,
06:00something that's unique to me, that's when I truly started loving it.
06:03It's something that I was born with and something that I am going to live with for the rest of
06:08my life.
06:09Beauty isn't one specific standard.
06:12Wearing the hijab makes me feel beautiful.
06:14My skin care makes me feel beautiful.
06:16Taking care of my body makes me feel beautiful.
06:19Beauty is just who you are as a person.
