Transcript
00:00My nose is bulbous, like fat, round, and bulging.
00:04I would always see my nose as the big difference between me and all the other girls at school,
00:09and I wanted to look just like everybody else.
00:12The words that kids can say actually do have an effect on like your overall self-esteem
00:16and your confidence.
00:17One time I was babysitting and this little girl, innocent as can be, said, you have a
00:23big nose.
00:23And I was just like, I know, but like secretly crying inside.
00:27A lot of African Americans would be compared to gorillas and to monkeys and chimpanzees
00:33in our behavior, but also in our aesthetic.
00:36We would be seen as being inferior, we would be seen as being less than, we would be seen
00:41as an animal more so than an actual human being.
00:44My nose has always been like a hallmark of my ethnicity.
00:47It's a very Filipino nose.
00:49Your nose is your nose, whether it's huge, small, pointy, inny, outy, however it may look.
00:54My nose makes me feel powerful and unique.
00:57I love my nose because it's a part of who I am.
01:00I love my nose because it's unique to me.
01:02I love my nose because it's been my shield for as long as I can remember.
01:08Even though it's a little crooked and a little bit bumpy, it's always been my number one.
