00:00Is the mind controlling us or is the mind controlling us?
00:05Thank you, Sonal.
00:08Before I would like to know,
00:10what mind and brain are different?
00:13Who thinks mind and brain are different?
00:17Do you understand mind and brain?
00:20These are two different things.
00:22The mind is just your perception,
00:24it's a manifestation.
00:26When we say that the mood is bad,
00:30it's a state of mind.
00:36But why the mood is bad?
00:39It's because of your mind-set.
00:41It's because of your subconscious brain.
00:44The same thing is,
00:46ten people with each other.
00:48You are stuck in traffic,
00:50everyone is a flight.
00:51Some people's mood is bad,
00:53anxiety is bad.
00:55Right?
00:56If someone is thinking,
00:57there is no one in my hand,
00:58there is no more thinking.
00:59So that is their mind-set.
01:01And that is their mind-set.
01:02And that is their mind-set.
01:03You always need to understand them.
01:06The problem is,
01:07we are talking about the mind-set.
01:09And in psychology in psychology,
01:11we are talking about the mind,
01:13that,
01:13we can begin to feel good,
01:15we will not be stressful,
01:17we will not be happy.
01:18We will be happy.
01:31happiness. Does everybody
01:33want to be happy?
01:35You're saying, don't
01:37chase happiness.
01:39Duniya ka koi aisa
01:40grant nahi hai, koi vedic
01:43shastra nahi hai, na
01:45Bible mein hai, na Quran mein hai
01:46ki the purpose of human life
01:49is to chase happiness.
01:51Kahin nahi likha hai.
01:53Aapko pada hai,
01:55human brain
01:57aur baki sare praniyon
01:59ke brain mein
02:01dho sabse mehtwapun difference
02:03kya hai?
02:05Pahla, ki sirf
02:07human brain, admi ka brain hai
02:09joh eek aise bhavishya ki
02:11kalpna kar sakta hai, eek aise future ki
02:13kalpna, eek imagine kar sakta hai
02:15joh isne kabhi dhekha nai hai.
02:18Voh shakti
02:19sirf humans ke paas hai.
02:21Koi or mammal, insect kisi ke
02:23paas nai hai.
02:24Or dousra fark ye hai, ki
02:26human brain aapne bare mein
02:28sokta hai.
02:30Aapka liver, aap
02:31khud ke baare mein
02:32nahi sokta hai.
02:33Aapka heart, khud ke baare mein
02:34nahi sokta hai.
02:36Sirf brain aisa organ hai,
02:37joh khud ki sokke baare mein
02:39sokta hai.
02:40Toh ye dho shakti yoh ko
02:42hum berbaad kar rahe hai,
02:44sirf happiness ko chase karke,
02:45kyaunki happiness is a state of mind.
02:48May ne kya ka?

03:23Aap us samayi sad hai.
03:25Kyunki woh ek tarahka trauma
03:27aapko feel hua hai.

03:34Lekin kya wohi

03:40Nahi.
03:41Toh,

04:08unko ho raha ho ga.
04:10Toh,
04:10unki manodashah thi,
04:11ki,
04:11mein trauma mein huun.
04:13Lekin,
04:13manasikta,
04:14mindset,
04:15joh subconscious brain se bantah hai,
04:18ki nahi,
04:19mujhe loogun ko bachana hai,
04:21khud ke pain se aage bhadh kar.
04:23Toh,
04:24yeh farak hai,
04:25manasikta,
04:26aur manodashah,
04:27mind,
04:28and mindset.
04:29And mindset comes from the brain.
04:33That's interesting,
04:34but,
04:35ab mein is knowledge ka karun kya?
04:38Mein ne toh samaj liya ki,
04:39brain aur mind alag alag hai.
04:41Why should I care about the difference,
04:43and why does it matter?
04:45Toh,
04:46mein ishi sawal ko,
04:48aage thodha,
04:48badaathe way,
04:49khaun ga,
04:50ki,
04:50yaan sab khush hona chahate hai.
04:52Correct?
04:53Lekin,
04:54agar haom benen hi nahi hai,
04:56khush hone ke liye,
04:57haom benen hai,
04:59aage koi larger purpose ke liye,
05:01sab ke sab,
05:03manushya jeevan hua hai purpose ke liye,
05:05aur yye mein koi spiritual sense se nahi keha raha ho,
05:08agar nature ne,
05:10ya bhagwaan ne,
05:10hume ye vivek shakti di hai,
05:12ki hum eisa future satcha saakta hai,
05:14aur us par kam kar saakta hai,
05:16toh aap yye satchi hai,
05:18joh sare jawaan fauj mein hai,
05:21do you think that their mind doesn't happen in their mind?
05:25They don't wake up in the morning at 4 o'clock,
05:27they're working, working,
05:29why?
05:29Because they have a larger purpose.
05:33That I can make myself strong,
05:36so that I can protect the country.
05:38Right?
05:41So, when you don't have a larger purpose,
05:44and that purpose is possible,
05:46that I can become a doctor,
05:48a lawyer,
05:48or I can become a good family man,
05:51or I can become a politician.
05:54I will tell you,
05:57we have made many thousands of people's brain maps,
06:00some politicians also have.
06:03Today, if you take the invitation of yourself,
06:07Narendra Modi Ji,
06:09are they working on their mind,
06:10that they don't feel good?
06:12No.
06:13Their purpose is,
06:15a genuine,
06:16that I have to do something for the country,
06:16or to the country,
06:17something for the country,
06:17to the country,
06:17something for the country,
06:18and to the country.
06:19So,
06:20if you put a purpose,
06:23a goal,
06:23So these are the small problems that I'm feeling, or I don't want to get up early, I don't want
06:31to go to school, I don't want to go to college.
06:33That's why you have a problem, because you don't have a larger purpose, you don't have to connect with it.
06:41As you can connect with it, you won't have problems.
06:44Yeah, but Kumar, a prime minister can be a larger goal, a public figure can be a larger goal.
06:51A young man just wants to live with happiness.
06:55A young man just wants to go to school, to become a future, to become a family member, to live
07:01with his family.
07:04They should just be happy and healthy, right?
07:07Diwali season is coming, you can write this in the greetings, you know, have a happy, prosperous Diwali.
07:12You will not say, have a purposeful Diwali, right?
07:16So I'm trying to understand, is this, and I'm finding it very strange, because if this is something that a
07:22person has spoken to me,
07:26then I feel like, yes, it's a good spirituality.
07:29You are a neuroscientist.
07:31A neuroscientist in your corporate look, I don't even understand.
07:34So I'll give you evidence to your evidence.
07:39You said you've been saying, what do you want to be a family man?
07:44That I want to be a good family, go to school, go to school, go to the house, go to
07:48EMS, go to the car, go to the car, go to the house.
07:56So, that is the larger purpose. A purpose which is other than yourself, which is different from yourself, which means
08:04that you will do extra work, 12 hours of work, which is your family, your children, your wife, your husband,
08:14or your parents.
08:15So, already, there is a feeling that I am going to do something different from myself. What you do is
08:24that you will do every day.
08:25So, you will be able to do your problems. You will be able to do your problems.
08:29You will be able to give up. You will be able to stress. You will be able to do your
08:35problems.
08:35You will be able to do your whole situation. You will be able to say, come on Prime Minister, but
08:41how do you become Prime Minister?
08:42How do you become Prime Minister? When they were doing normal work, then they had a desire to say, that
08:49this is a larger purpose.
08:51That journey was 10, 15, 20 years before. Whether it was a Prime Minister, whether it was a cricket player,
08:58whether it was a big athlete, whether it was a big athlete.
09:01Everyone's journey started this way, that this is a larger purpose. And that life's small problems, I will give you
09:09a look at it.
09:12If we don't have any purpose, then all these small problems will make us bigger. I will give you a
09:17look at it.
09:19Yesterday, it was 14th. You have kept your life. You have been working all day long.
09:34I have to see this through professionally very well. So you did not complain that I am hungry and I
09:43am having to work on Karwa Chaut.
09:45There will be millions of women who are hungry, who are fasting on Karwa Chaut and who are doing physical
09:52labor also.
09:53And there are so many who will say, oh, you know what, why should I fast? I have work to
09:58do. I am getting tired. I am being forced to do it.
10:01Oh, what a patriarchal society, etc., etc. So the same act of fasting was viewed by you differently because you
10:11had a larger purpose today.
10:13And the same act could be viewed by somebody differently.
10:15So I have to clarify, fasting of any kind, religious or otherwise, is purely a matter of choice.
10:22Sure.
10:23And to add to your point, I think why one did not feel, or I particularly did not feel the
10:29need to reach out for food or crib about it, is because it was a choice I made.
10:33Absolutely.
10:34Every time you act upon something that you have decided upon, there is propriety over it.
10:40Absolutely.
10:40As long as those choices are being taken by somebody else, you end up cribbing and crying. Right?
10:45So that also happens, but we are doing a lot of great things. Let me bring it down a little
10:50bit, because we have to talk about brain rewiring.
10:54And let's take this example.
10:56Somebody is conscious enough to understand that my brain is all, and it is aware of what your strengths are,
11:04what are your weaknesses.
11:05When you have understood that, what are the ways to rewire your brain?
11:10What are the ways to rewire your brain?
11:11What are some habits?
11:13What are some habits?
11:14What are the ways to fake it till you make it?
11:16What is journaling?
11:18And what is the best and effective tool for your brain to rewire your brain?
11:24Fantastic question.
11:26So let me just say, all our brains is a data-crunching, energy-hungry, decision-making machine.
11:39That's what our brain is.
11:40It is forever crunching data and information, processing it.
11:45It's always consuming energy.
11:47You are so, even in your sleep, your brain is consuming energy.
11:50And it is always doing two things.
11:53Making decisions or making predictions.
11:58The way to rewire it is to manage all three.
12:02So first, energy.
12:05Many a times, have all of you ever had a moment ki, I am feeling very low.
12:12Right?
12:13Low.
12:14And then you assume that that low feeling is your mood.
12:19We say, I am not feeling motivated.
12:21Aaj man nahi kar raha.
12:23Motivation nahi hai.
12:25I challenge you, that feeling would have never come when you were feeling energetic.
12:31That always comes when you are actually low physically on energy.
12:37Because your brain can consume between 20% to 33% of your energy.
12:44So, agar aap din mein pandra so calorie kha raha hai hai, up to 500 calories can be used by
12:49your brain.
12:51So, if your brain is running low on energy, it will feel negative, sad, low and given into its old
13:01patterns.
13:02The second part, I said, is data crunching.
13:07Our brain is bombarded by 11 million bits per second.
13:14Means, 11,000,000 bits per second.
13:19Aparna geo ya, koi bhi aap mobile use karthay ho network,
13:24Usmei aapko kya data ka speed milta hai.
13:27Kabhi 2 MBBS, 5 MBPS, 10 MBPS.
13:3111 MBPS aapka brain ko a raha hai.
13:34Par, usmei se, 11,000,000 mei se,
13:37Aap sif 50 ko mind ke zariye process kar paate hai.
13:4111 million bits is what you are getting in.
13:4350 bits is what you can process.
13:46So, the brain is processing it so much at such high speed,
13:50it does not want to waste more energy.
13:53That's why it creates a habit.
13:55That's why it creates a pattern.
13:58So, you asked a very right question that we all know ki wake up early.
14:03We all know exercise.
14:05We all know don't have sugar.
14:06Why are we not able to do it?
14:08Right?
14:09And as we've seen in the last two days at the conference,
14:12everyone is giving this advice.
14:14But how do you make your brain do it?
14:17Because the brain wants to do whatever is going to be easy for it,
14:21whatever is going to consume less energy.
14:25So, the way to do it is start small.
14:29What does the brain require?
14:31First thing, oxygen.
14:34That is the second most natural source of energy.
14:39What do you think is the first?
14:41What is the first?
14:41Yeah.
14:42Take any guesses.
14:43What is the first easiest natural source of energy?
14:47Absolutely right.
14:50Urja.
14:50Sunlight.
14:51Right?
14:52So, as soon as you wake up in the morning,
14:56get sunlight on your face
14:57and give your brain a massive dose of oxygen.
15:02Either you do breath work or pranayama or running,
15:06short bursts or physical exercise,
15:09even if it is for two minutes, three minutes, five minutes,
15:12where you've pumped up your brain with oxygen,
15:15given it sunlight,
15:16you have signaled to the brain
15:18that I am ready
15:20to give you all the inputs
15:23that you need to change.
15:26Sunlight, I hope you mean,
15:28does not mean that I go out in the sun
15:29and I start scrolling.
15:32Please clarify on that.
15:34Yes, absolutely not.
15:35Please don't scroll in the sunlight.
15:37Don't even scroll in the darkness.
15:40Either ways.
15:41So, yes,
15:43you can revive your brain.
15:46Sunlight,
15:47oxygen,
15:48exercise,
15:49and two most important things.
15:51And you said part of it
15:53is the intention
15:54that you chose to do this.
15:56Right?
15:57And why will you choose?
15:59Because you have a goal.
16:01Because you have a larger purpose.
16:03Right?
16:04So, it all starts with goal and purpose.
16:09That is where your mindset
16:11starts becoming made.
16:13Right?
16:14And once you have that,
16:16then you start repeating
16:18these choices.
16:20So, when you wake up in the morning,
16:21you have a choice
16:22to lie in bed and keep scrolling
16:24or to get out and go for a run.
16:27Whilst you are running,
16:28you have a choice.
16:29Push yourself harder or not.
16:31You pushed yourself,
16:32you come back,
16:33you have a choice at breakfast
16:35to have some sabzi puri
16:36or to have something healthy.
16:38Throughout the day,
16:40you are making micro decisions.
16:42Each decision
16:43will be either rewarding
16:45or punishing for you.
16:47Kal rat ko baat alcohol pilia,
16:49subhi you feel punished.
16:51Kal rat ko late soge,
16:52you are feeling the impact.
16:53So, every time
16:54you feel punished or rewarded,
16:57your brain is getting rewired.
16:59So, slowly, daily,
17:01if you make the right choices,
17:03those will become your habits.
17:04Your habits become your mindset.
17:06Your mindset is basically
17:08who you are.
17:09And then it works
17:10the other way around as well, right?
17:12Because that means that
17:13if you are making
17:14the wrong choices
17:16and forming wrong habits,
17:18that can also be counterproductive, right?
17:21Absolutely.
17:22We have come towards the end,
17:23so I want to talk about sleep.
17:27I think doctor after doctor
17:30in this conclave
17:32has spoken about
17:33the importance of sleep.
17:34A cardiologist talks about sleep.
17:36A longevity expert
17:38will talk about sleep.
17:39A brain expert
17:40will talk about sleep.
17:42Everybody is concentrating
17:43on how important it is.
18:03And
18:05and you hit the nail on the head.
18:07So, the first is
18:08not just the hours of sleep.
18:10I know enough has been spoken
18:12that you need to get
18:12six hours or eight hours.
18:14But more than the number of hours
18:16is when you sleep.
18:17there is enough evidence
18:19that just going to sleep early
18:22improves your chances
18:24of staying away from depression,
18:26anxiety,
18:27makes you resilient,
18:29keeps you away from fatty food,
18:31craving sugar,
18:33etc.
18:33And junk food.
18:34So, the first thing to realize is
18:36please try and go to bed
18:38three to four hours
18:39after sunset maximum.
18:41So, let's say
18:42between 10 to 10.30
18:43latest.
18:44I know
18:45there are a lot of people
18:46who have jobs and careers
18:48which require them
18:49to stay awake
18:50late at night.
18:51In that case,
18:52try and fool
18:54your brain's
18:55circadian rhythm
18:56by getting sunlight
18:57in the morning.
18:59So, the growth factor
19:01which you get
19:02when you go to bed early,
19:03there is a growth factor
19:04which your brain produces.
19:07That you can invigorate
19:09by early morning sun.
19:10That you can invigorate
19:12by breath work.
19:13Now, how to sleep?
19:15A tired body,
19:17a tired brain
19:19will find it easier
19:20to fall asleep.
19:21If you are going to be
19:23sitting at your desk
19:24for 12 hours a day,
19:26then you are not really tired.
19:28Your brain will not
19:29want to sleep.
19:31Second,
19:33stay away from caffeine
19:34after a certain
19:35hour in the day.
19:36In fact,
19:37if you have sleep issues
19:39or anxiety
19:40or overthinking
19:41of any kind,
19:42just stay away
19:43from caffeine
19:43completely.
19:45Third,
19:47alcohol.
19:48We have a lot of clients
19:49who will consume
19:50a lot of alcohol
19:51because in a way
19:52they are drinking
19:53themselves to sleep.
19:54But actually,
19:55alcohol messes
19:56with your sleep quality.
19:57So, stay away
19:58from alcohol.
20:00The two things
20:01which you can actually
20:02do to try
20:02and fall asleep.
20:05trick your brain
20:07into creating
20:08a routine.
20:09So, let's say
20:10if you want to get
20:11to bed at 10.30,
20:12by 10.15,
20:13dim your lights,
20:16make an environment
20:17which is calming
20:18for your brain,
20:19keep your phone away,
20:20so yes,
20:21no temptation
20:21for the screen,
20:23and try and just
20:25remember what
20:25happened in the day,
20:27if you need to make
20:28notes for what
20:29you need to do
20:29tomorrow,
20:30try and empty
20:31your subconscious
20:33onto a piece
20:34of paper
20:34which you can refer
20:35to tomorrow morning
20:36so that when you
20:37lie down,
20:38you are not
20:38constantly thinking
20:39of the tasks
20:41or the decisions
20:41you need to do
20:42for tomorrow.
20:44It's in your diary,
20:45you can refer to it
20:46tomorrow morning.
20:48And the third thing
20:49you need to do
20:50is calm your nervous system.
20:52The easiest way
20:53to calm your nervous system
20:55is using your breath
20:56and using sound.
20:58the light we already
21:00discussed that,
21:01you know,
21:01switch off your lights
21:02or dim them
21:03so you are in a zone
21:04where your brain knows
21:05it has to wind down
21:07for the day.
21:07You have to signal
21:08to the brain
21:09that I don't want you
21:10to be more active.
21:11It's not daylight anymore.
21:13And the second is sound
21:15and breath work.
21:16So,
21:17the easiest breath work
21:18to do
21:19is breathe in
21:20for 5 seconds,
21:22breathe out
21:23for 10 seconds.
21:26You have to play
21:26with your central
21:27and autonomous
21:28nervous system.
21:29You do this
21:30for 5 minutes,
21:31lying down
21:32flat on your back
21:33in a cool,
21:34calm,
21:35dark room.
21:36A lot of people
21:38sleep
21:38with light
21:39coming into their room.
21:41That is actually
21:42very bad for you,
21:44not just for your sleep,
21:45but also
21:46for things like
21:47diabetes,
21:48cholesterol,
21:50thyroid,
21:51etc.
21:53But you have heard
21:54of this phenomenon
21:55called tired
21:56but wired mind,
21:57right?
21:57A lot of people
21:58who want to sleep
21:59better
22:00say that
22:01I have all tried
22:01to sleep.
22:02I have all tried
22:03I have all tried
22:04to sleep.
22:04I have all tried
22:05I have all tried
22:05to sleep.
22:06I have all tried
22:06I have all tried
22:07exactly what the doctor
22:08says or perhaps
22:09internet sometimes
22:10says it's prescribed.
22:11I did not touch
22:13my screen.
22:13I did not ensure
22:15that I did not
22:16have caffeine
22:164 hours to 6 hours
22:18before,
22:19half-life,
22:19full-life,
22:19all of it,
22:20but abhi bhi
22:21mera dimaag
22:22chalta ja raha hai.
22:24Un problems
22:25ke lehe kya kare?
22:25So,
22:26as you know,
22:27we do brain mapping
22:28where by placing
22:31sensors on your head
22:32and reading your brain
22:32data and of course
22:34not your thoughts
22:35or memories,
22:36we are able to
22:36understand some
22:37of these very
22:38specific patterns
22:39on why is it
22:40that you are not
22:41able to switch off,
22:42right?
22:44Unfortunately,
22:44it's become a
22:45matter of pride.
22:46We have so many
22:47high-profile clients
22:48who will just say,
22:49oh,
22:49I just can't
22:49switch off,
22:50right?
22:51And I have to
22:53break it to them
22:53but, you know,
22:54that's the reason
22:54why you can't
22:55get good quality
22:55sleep.
22:56So,
22:57the ability
22:57to switch off
22:58is actually
22:59a matter of
22:59higher intelligence
23:00which means
23:01to your opening
23:02question,
23:03are you controlling
23:04your mind
23:04or is your mind
23:05controlling you?
23:06so as some
23:08of our Vedic
23:08tests says
23:09that
23:09Vijay
23:10vohi karra
23:11hai
23:11jo khud
23:11par vijay
23:12paha
23:12raha
23:12right?
23:13So,
23:14can you
23:14control your
23:14mind?
23:15So,
23:16we help
23:16people understand
23:17that pattern
23:18and make
23:19changes
23:19to that pattern
23:21so that you
23:22are not
23:22unnecessarily
23:23thinking about
23:24things when you
23:25don't need to.
23:27last one minute
23:28I can only
23:28take one
23:29question from
23:29the audience
23:30if anybody
23:30has one.
23:31Yeah?
23:31That gentleman
23:32in the black

24:53now increasingly a dependence on supplements and pills for sleep i see enough and more people
24:59pop melatonin like it it's minutes i see uh magnesium glycinate became you know become like
25:06this thing which everybody has to have in order to calm your nervous system which you said is so
25:10important how do you know that you're doing too much of it true because in my head i'm thinking
25:16even that's the sort of it might be assistance to sleep but it could also become dependence
25:22absolutely and you hit the nail on the head so how many of you think melatonin is a supplement
25:28a natural supplement it's actually a hormone so imagine you're actually taking hormone therapy
25:38your brain produces and needs only 0.3 to 0.5 mg of melatonin to sleep on an average the
25:47pills are
25:48being given for 5 mg 10 mg so the day you take a 5 mg pill which is 10 to
25:5315 times more than what
25:55your brain needs your brain stops producing melatonin it just stops because it's being flooded your
26:02system is being flooded by 15 times 10 times 20 times so that's why the dependency happens because
26:09now it's stopped so you take it for a few days and now you can't sleep without it so the
26:15honest answer
26:16is there is no sleeping pill there is no sleeping pill not a pill which simply can say oh this
26:23is
26:23making me sleep no either it's a hormone or it is a concoction which over a period of time should
26:31strengthen your nervous system and there are a lot of herbal options not a single one which you can mix
26:39five or six of them together to strengthen your nervous system so that when you want to sleep you
26:45can several of them together so if you combine chamomile ashwagandha and a few others and of course
26:53it has to be custom to your body type and your you know nature right so i wouldn't want to
27:00give a
27:00prescription here but those are there right but again those are not for sleep that is for your nervous
27:07system sleep is not a problem by itself sleep is a symptom of an underlying problem yeah that you
27:14have overthinking or you have anxiety or something yeah so view sleep as that yeah i think that's a
27:20good note to end the session because it's a good food for thought for all of you sitting over here
27:23and
27:23watching us live as well where we keep talking about the importance neend nahi arhi hai toh neend ko fix
