Continuous rainfall in the national capital forced the opposition India bloc to postpone its planned mock impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Originally scheduled to take place at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's residence, the proceedings will now be held on Saturday afternoon. Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is set to preside over the symbolic event, while Mallikarjun Kharge will introduce the motion. Civil society members and individuals affected by the special intensive revision of electoral rolls are slated to participate, concluding with remarks from Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The opposition aims to highlight allegations of vote chori and democratic erosion, leading up to a march to Ramlila Maidan on November 1. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party struck back at the opposition leadership, dismissing the mock impeachment as an unconstitutional political stunt designed to fuel anarchy and drama in the capital.

00:00Let's hope all of this leads to a reduction in pollution levels in the national capital.
00:06We'll continue getting you the latest of what the central government and the Delhi government
00:09plans to do to ensure that there is a crackdown on all elements that pollute the air further
00:15in the national capital.
00:16But let's move on to some of the big political stories of the day.
00:19The opposition CEC impeachment move was supposed to happen today, but it's been postponed to
00:26tomorrow, reinforcing the proceedings to be postponed.
00:29The announcement was made by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who said that this mock impeachment
00:34will take place at the same time tomorrow, which means 3.30 tomorrow evening is when this
00:39mock public impeachment by Congress and by other opposition parties will take place at
00:45Kharge's residence.
00:46And that will be followed by a march to Ramlila Maidan, which is on November 1st.
00:51So there will be a march to Ramlila Maidan and then a mega rally.
00:55Well, the BJP is hit back at Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of spreading anarchy.
00:59Once again, repeating the Dimagi Naksal attack on the opposition.
01:03Let's get to both sides in our next report.
01:15It was billed as a public verdict against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, a show
01:21of anger over alleged irregularities in the special intensive revision of electoral rolls.
01:27But just as the India bloc was preparing to remove the CEC from his position, at least symbolically,
01:33the weather played spoils sport.
01:37Continuous rainfall in the capital forced the opposition to postpone its public impeachment
01:42style proceedings planned at Congress President Malika Ajun Kharge's residence.
01:49The event will now be held at the same time, 3.30 p.m. on Saturday.
01:55Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meera Kumar will preside over the proceedings, while Rajya Sabha leader
02:00of opposition Malika Ajun Kharge will introduce the motion.
02:04Leaders from India bloc parties, members of civil society and people affected by the SIR exercise
02:10are expected to present their arguments, followed by a charge sheet against a CEC.
02:17Rahul Gandhi, the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, will deliver the concluding remarks.
02:23The opposition's stated aim is to build a public case for Gyanesh Kumar's removal,
02:28accusing him of undermining democracy through vote chodi.
02:32But this is symbolic exercise, not an actual impeachment proceeding.
02:37The constitution says CEC can be removed only through the same process as a Supreme Court judge
02:44by Parliament on grounds of proved misbehaviour or incapacity.
02:50While the proceedings were postponed, opposition leaders used the opportunity to target Prime
02:55Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, insisting that this is a fight they will win.
03:01Both the programmes are about the demolition of Indian democracy by Mr. Narendra Modi,
03:11by Mr. Arit Shah and by Mr. Gyanesh Kumar and his crew in the election commission.
03:20The Home Minister is trying his best to stop people from coming into Delhi.
03:26Everybody is here. It's a political plus.
03:29We are in this together. We will win this together.
03:34And this is only the curtain raiser.
03:37On November 1st, the India bloc will march to Ramlila Maidan for their mega vote chodi rally.
03:43The BJP meanwhile has hit out the opposition's public impeachment plan,
03:48calling it a political stunt aimed at creating chaos.
03:51The TRU.
03:53I will be the only one who has hit the border of India
04:00and the people who have had this right to fight the rules.
04:07You will never continue to fight them.
04:08But in India, there is a strange feeling that Meta Prithipaksh has never seen in Akashwani
04:14as a result.
04:16These people are doing such a work that has no legal validity.
04:23Just to make their own rights, this is one way, a rights-right.
04:34So from a symbolic impeachment at Kargay's residence to a show of strength and
04:38at Ramlila Maidan, the opposition is keeping the anti-CEC fight alive on the streets.
04:44Bureau Report, India Today.
04:49Let's also bring in Moshmi Singh, who's joining us live from Delhi with the latest updates
04:53on really what the opposition's strategy looks like.
04:56So Moshmi, instead of today, you'll have the public impeachment taking place tomorrow,
05:01which means that the weekend is packed for the opposition.
05:04It's going to be one symbolic stir after another.
05:06There's also been, we understand, a tweak in plans as far as the November 1st rally is concerned,
05:12which means essentially that Rahul Gandhi is upping the ante further.
05:20Absolutely, you know, Akshita, the fact that the public impeachment will now follow very close,
05:27happen very close on the heels of the mega rally itself, you know, adds to the momentum,
05:34though the rain played truant, but the delay surely the Congress and the India Bloc leaders feel is not a
05:43reason that there will be any lessening of the attack on Gyanesh Kumar or via Gyanesh Kumar at the Modi
05:53government.
05:54And Rahul Gandhi also spoke about marching to Ram Leela Maidan, thereby, you know, calling out all outfits, student organizations,
06:05civil societies to join the bandwagon.
06:07So clearly, I think that, you know, tomorrow will be a day where we'll see a lot of bond homie
06:16between the India Bloc leaders.
06:18We'll see a lesser participation, though represented in the right percentage by the civil society members.
06:27And also there will be SIR victims who will be participating in that public impeachment that happened.
06:34But today's picture spoke a lot about the unity and the fact that all the India Bloc leaders, you know,
06:43want to put up a show of strength.
06:45And speaking of unity, Moshami, you know, Rahul Gandhi has been putting out one message after another, urging everyone to
06:51join the rally on November 1st.
06:53Is the CJP going to be attending?
07:01You know, there has been no word coming on that. I've asked several leaders.
07:08There is still no clarity on whether Abhijit Dipke or the likes of Saurav Das would be attending or sharing
07:17the stage with Rahul Gandhi and the other India Bloc leaders.
07:22There is a lot of reading between the lines. Dipke has made that call out to extend support to the
07:30India Bloc rally.
07:31But that doesn't really add to the fact that whether they'll be physically present, that will add another dimension, perhaps
07:40a political dimension to the entire plan.
07:43And though he has shared stage with the youth outfits of other political organizations like the AISF or the ISA,
07:53it remains to be seen whether he would be on the stage with the major political parties there.
07:58Alright, so let's wait and watch Moshami for the moment. Thanks very much for joining us.
