More than a dozen market associations across Delhi have written to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other opposition figures requesting the postponement of their planned rally at Ramlila Maidan. Highlighting the festive season ahead of Diwali, traders expressed concerns that holding such a massive political rally would disrupt pre-festival sales and harm their livelihoods. While stating they do not oppose the right to protest, the business bodies urged leaders to delay the march, pointing out that a mock parliament programme had already been deferred. Meanwhile, opposition parties maintaining the planned march is a one-day event at a notified venue questioned why objections were not raised during previous political demonstrations.

00:00So viewers, even earlier in the day, what the traders associations had come out to say is that this particular
00:07month, this week in fact, November 8th that is, is Diwali.
00:11This week would be pre-Diwali week. The festive season has officially started.
00:16So planning a rally of this extent at a pre-festive season time will only hamper their sales and their
00:25livelihoods.
00:26Which is a concern. They've come out to time and again pose to the opposition that please go ahead with
00:31your rallies but do not infringe upon our right to be earning our livelihoods.
00:37And this is yet again another development coming in on that very front where more than a dozen market associations
00:44across Delhi have written a letter to Rahul Gandhi demanding just a postponement, not a cancellation, but a postponement of
00:52the rally.
00:53The letter states that just as the mock parliament was postponed, postponed the Ramlila Maidan rally as well.
00:59This is the particular story that we're tracking and joining me would be our colleague Amit Bhatwaj.
01:06In fact, bringing us more details on the same.
01:09There are letters that have come in at this given point from the Traders Association and not one, but more
01:15than a dozen Traders Association.
01:16Amit, very good afternoon to you. Very firstly, you know, since morning we've been talking to Traders Associations as well
01:23and they have a simple demand that we do not have a problem with your right to protest.
01:27Please go ahead and protest but don't infringe upon our right to be earning a livelihood.
01:32Because even earlier the protests that had taken place were during a pre-festive time, that was pre-Navaratri, this
01:38is pre-Diwali and these are times when their sales really go up and this is a profit making time
01:44for them.
01:44So how are we looking at this entire debate now?
01:47Absolutely right, you know, first it was the trade associations and after that one more business body had written to
01:53Rahul Gandhi, Miss Sonia Gandhi in this regard as well.
01:58And the opposition leaders are also receiving similar communications.
02:02But what the India Bloc is arguing right now that look, we are not going for a long-term agitation
02:08as they had done before the Navaratris.
02:12Here what we are looking at is that it's going to be one day affair.
02:16Rahul Gandhi and the India Bloc leaders marching from Minto Road CP Circle to Ramli Lamaidan and from there holding
02:24a one day rally like any political rally.
02:27And the opposition parties are also pointing out at now the Bharatiya Jinta Party's mass that happened in the heart
02:32of Chandni Chokh, which is basically the center for business as far as these, you know, traders, association, the business
02:40groups are saying.
02:41So that is also a counter that is coming from that.
02:44It's a one day affair that we are doing at Ramli Lamaidan, a notified space.
02:48And if you have problem with us, why there was no problem with the BJP's protest?
02:53Back to you.
02:53Right, Ahmed.
02:54So viewers, this is what we are looking at.
02:55It's a debate that's unfolding.
02:57And this aspect of the entire controversy is less of a debate, more of a request from the Traders Association.
03:05Remember, today there was a public impeachment of the CEC that had been planned.
03:08That has been postponed.
03:10So now the question is with regards to, that's been posed by the Traders Association, why can we not postpone
03:16the rally as well?
03:17So we will keep tracking this very story, but for now we have more developments coming in.
03:21Let's quickly take a look.
