00:00Hi, my name is Christine and this is Kai. Welcome to our renovated Sweet Digs.
00:06Okay, come in.
00:07I live here with my husband Ben, my son Kai, and my dog Epic, and we've been living here for
00:15a year and a half.
00:18We live in the border of Dumbo and Vinegar Hill.
00:22Before the renovation, this apartment was a three-bedroom apartment.
00:25The renovation cost us $50,000 and that included hiring a contractor, an architect, a sprinkler engineer, also decorating the
00:40entire apartment.
00:42So this is our kitchen.
00:45My favorite part about the kitchen is the sink facing the room.
00:49When we are washing dishes, we can watch TV or watch Kai playing on the mat.
00:55I am Korean, so I like to cook lots of Korean food, but also lots of Italian food.
01:01One of my favorite things to cook is wild mushroom pappadelle.
01:06I am an experiential event designer.
01:10I design spaces for pop-ups and product launches.
01:15I took this renovation as one of my work projects.
01:19I created the floor plan, renderings, and had a design deck which had a lot of options and inspiration images.
01:28This is our living room.
01:31The living room was half of this current size.
01:34There used to be a wall over there that was our third bedroom.
01:38The dining room area and the living room area was pretty small, so we wanted to open it up to
01:45make a larger common space.
01:48First was the demo of the walls.
01:51We had to relocate the sprinklers.
01:54In the beginning of the renovation, I was pregnant with Kai.
01:58I was in first trimester.
01:59We actually moved into the space while the renovation was happening.
02:04That was very hard.
02:05When I was designing the space, I knew the couch will be sitting in the middle of the room,
02:11so I wanted it to have a really pretty back and sit low to the ground.
02:18The couch is from the Croft House, which is only located in California.
02:21They didn't have a showroom here, so we couldn't really do the comfort test.
02:27Luckily, Ben had a business trip out to L.A., so he was able to sit on it.
02:32It passed the comfort test, and we were able to bring it home.
02:37I love having plants in our home.
02:40Its shape and colors really bring life to our space.
02:45The most sentimental item in this space would be my cello.
02:49My mom got it for me when I was eight, so that's many, many, many years ago.
02:55This is my son Kai's bedroom.
02:58The only change we made was to relocate the door location.
03:03It used to face where the living room is, but we closed it off and made the door face the
03:09hallway.
03:09The theme of the room really started from our baby moon in Morocco.
03:14The rug really set the tone for the rest of the room with its colors and the textures.
03:22For baby room, we didn't really want to spend too much money, so we mixed high and low cost items.
03:29Investment piece like the pull-out bed, we got it from Pottery Barn, but the rest of the items are
03:35from Ikea, H&M, Urban Outfitters, and Anthropologie Home section.
03:41This room has the most expensive and valuable art pieces, and that would be these two, done by Kai.
03:49I framed them with the frames from West Elm.
03:52They look like million bucks.
03:54This is our master bedroom.
03:56The only renovation we did to this room was adding the bookshelf to the wall.
04:02There was a space right next to the entrance, so I wanted to utilize its height and add more storage
04:09space.
04:10My favorite part of this room is the gallery wall.
04:15It has all the photos from our trip that I took.
04:19Some of the photos of us were taken by the local photographers that we hire when we travel.
04:25It's really a great way to meet the locals, but also see the local spots.
04:32We have two bathrooms.
04:33One is out in the hallway and one's in our master bedroom.
04:38I like the bathrooms a lot because I didn't have to do a lot of work.
04:43It already came in like pristine condition.
04:46In our first apartment together, the bathroom was so tiny I could just spread my arms and touch the walls
04:54in the bathroom.
04:56So our current bathrooms are a huge step up.
05:00I would love our next apartment to have true three bedrooms and an outdoor space for Kai and Epic to
05:09run around.
05:13In the beginning, we were really scared to do a renovation since it's our first renovation.
05:19But once we went through the process and once it was all done, I feel like it's totally worth it.
05:26Worth all the hardships.
05:27This is Kai's first home and it will always have a special place in our heart.
05:33We'll be right back!
05:37We'll be right back!
05:43You have to move!
