00:00Hi I'm Danielle Franco and I'm Eli Franco. Welcome to our Sweet Digs, our
00:04home away from home. Come on inside. We're up here in Tannersville, New York
00:09which is about two hours north of New York City. We bought the house for $165,000
00:13but it needed a lot of work and we ended up putting about $40,000 into it and
00:19that was with doing most of it completely ourselves. This house is about
00:231,500 square feet and we like to spend our weekends here when we can. When we're
00:28not here we Airbnb it. This is our dining area. The first thing I loved about this
00:35house were the 16-foot windows. The house was a complete mess when we got it. The
00:40windows were the only saving grace. Really the only reason we bought it to
00:43begin with. I really worked extensively with my dad growing up on fixing up
00:47houses, building decks, but we really had to learn a lot as we went along. We ended
00:52up making this dining table ourselves. We couldn't find anything that fit our
00:56budget and fit the space so we said let's just make it ourselves. This is our
00:59kitchen. The biggest thing with the kitchen was getting these cabinets level
01:03because the floor is just so unlevel. I definitely don't do any of the
01:07cooking. I'm not even allowed in the kitchen. I think you can go in the kitchen
01:11it's just you like when I do cooking. It's true. We've been trying to eat a
01:15little less meat lately so I think mostly fish and egg-based dishes. Simple things.
01:21Over here is our living space. My favorite find for this house are
01:26definitely the hanging chairs. We found them on clearance for $99. Everything
01:31else we were looking at was super expensive like hundreds of dollars so
01:34when we found them we were like how many can we buy and where will we put them.
01:37The most expensive thing in this house is the couch from West Elm. It was
01:41definitely a little more than we want to spend but I think it really makes a good
01:44statement in the room. The side tables in the living room are super cool I think
01:48because we actually made them. We found the bases from West Elm on clearance.
01:52They were actually planter bases and then the top were Eli's mom's that she
01:57collected in Fram. We called this house the Hunter Greenhouse because we're in
02:01the town of Hunter and the County of Green. And we also knew that plants were
02:05gonna play a big part in our decor and then we took it a step further and painted
02:10the house green so that there's no ambiguity that this is the Hunter Greenhouse.
02:15We were looking for interesting things to add to the house decor wise so we came
02:19up with this idea for a plant wall. Up until about a few weeks ago the plant
02:23wall only went up to here and now it goes the whole way up. This is the
02:27downstairs bathroom. There was a small closet in the bathroom that we really
02:31didn't have any use for so we ended up taking out the door and kind of
02:35refinishing it so it's a little space to get ready in while you're taking a shower
02:39to leave a towel. We actually ended up picking the paint color based on this
02:44really creepy old painting that we found and we really just wanted to match
02:49everything to that. This is the one guest bedroom that I designed. When we bought
02:55the house there were these two kind of similar downstairs bedrooms and so we
03:00kind of just each took one to design. We wanted it to feel more open so we
03:05actually took the closet doors off and Eli built these really cool custom benches
03:09inside and I hung this branch for storage. This is the bedroom that I designed.
03:16Danielle likes to claim that I somehow was attracted to this room and it was my
03:22mission to design this room but the reality is is that this is the smaller
03:26room. The bed frame we bought was actually from Ikea. We spray-painted it with
03:32automotive matte black spray paint. Let's go up to the loft. This is our loft area. We
03:39had a DIY wedding at my family's house in East Hampton. These wood beams on the
03:45wall are actually from the deck at the house. They were the runners in the middle of
03:50the table for the wedding. Our vision for buying the house was really as an
03:55escape from the city. We both live and work full-time in Manhattan so it was nice to
04:00have a place to get away for a weekend or a week and just unwind and relax. We met in
04:06college. We were at a Red Bull event and I was wearing high heels and there was a
04:12this handicap ramp I was trying to walk down and someone had spilled their drink
04:15so I fell and Eli saw it happen and kind of came over to save the day, scooped me
04:21up, took me to the corner of the room and he iced my knee all night. I didn't
04:24really know her name or any contact information and then at the end of the
04:30night we went our separate ways and somehow found our way back to each other.
04:35And here's our master bathroom. I would never do penny tile ever again because you
04:42know you put it down they come in sheets and you lay everything out and then you
04:46step back and if it's not perfectly in line you see every single seam so we
04:51actually had to take everything up and do it again. We bought the concrete sink
04:56and then we actually custom built the vanity around it and painted it green. We
05:01also made this teak floor mats with a little bench beside the shower. And in
05:08here is the master bedroom. The master bedroom was actually one of the last
05:11rooms that we designed. We kind of established everything else in the house
05:15and put this on the back burner. It actually ended up being one of the coolest and
05:19everything kind of came together really well. I think Eli is definitely the
05:22dreamer and I'm the realist. He's like oh we need these hanging chairs we need
05:27this hammock and I'm thinking how are you hanging it? I really had to sell Danielle
05:31on the idea because she didn't think it made any sense. He figured it out and it's
05:35really cool and it's relaxing and people really love it. My favorite thing in the
05:40master has to be the wallpaper. I think I was kind of against the wallpaper because I
05:44didn't want it to feel too old-fashioned but I think you found a really great one. We found this
05:48really cool like grayish blue pattern. I think it's really cool. I'm a
05:53dermatology PA so I see skin cancer and rashes and I treat acne and I also do fun
05:59stuff like cosmetics as well. And I work for a software development company that
06:03does accounting software for large law firms. We both have pretty uncreative
06:08professions I would say. It was nice to have an outlet and a big project to kind of
06:13funnel that creativity that we have into. I think our favorite thing to do in this
06:17house is just to sit with a good glass of wine and the hanging chair and listen
06:21to some records. I think as long as you have a comfortable place to sit and a
06:26nice view and these windows you'll be okay.
