00:00Any nation that does not take advantage of more than half the brain power, half the courage,
00:05half the initiative in their country cannot sustain and be competitive in the world.
00:17Very excited to be here in Charleston, South Carolina today with former Vice President Joe
00:21Biden.
00:21If you were to tell women who are watching this, what are the three things that you've
00:26accomplished for women that you're proudest of, what would they be?
00:30I think the proudest thing I've done is writing the Violence Against Women Act over the objection
00:34of an awful lot of people early on.
00:35We have to change the culture, the way in which women are treated in America and around the
00:40world.
00:41The second thing I think I'm most proud of is I've pushed very hard for women to be able
00:45to have any role at all in the military.
00:47There's not a single solitary thing a man can do and a woman can't do.
00:51The third thing is, the first thing we passed in our administration was the Lilly Ledbetter
00:55Act.
00:55We signed that into law.
00:56Women should be paid exactly what the man that they're sitting next to does.
01:03I was a single parent for a long time, for five years, and I had a lot of help.
01:08And it was still really hard.
01:09I can't imagine what it's like for most women.
01:11What are the three things that you could commit to now that you will do on behalf of women
01:16that women voters can, that are watching, can hold you accountable for?
01:19There will be more women on the Supreme Court, period.
01:22I'm not going to be happy until we have more than half of the United States Congress, the
01:26Senate, the court, important positions where women make up half of it.
01:34Here's one that comes up from a lot of women.
01:36One, what's your top priority for furthering women's reproductive rights once you're president?
01:41Number one, go straight to the United States Congress and codify Roe v. Wade as amended
01:47by Casey, and I'd also strike down the international laws that exist, banning the ability of
01:53us to support institutions around the world that are saving women's lives.
02:01What's your favorite constitutional amendment and why?
02:05The Ninth Amendment because it really did, there's a reason why the founders didn't initially
02:11want to have a bill of rights.
02:12They're worried if they start naming things that existed as rights, anything they didn't
02:17name would be perceived to be the province of the government.
02:21They got to the Ninth Amendment and said, by the way, anything we haven't mentioned doesn't
02:25mean it doesn't exist.
02:26It's retained by the people.
02:30What's your favorite either backstage mood song or your favorite walkout song?
02:35Tina Turner, You're the Best, it reminds me of my wife, for real.
02:39I mean, I'm one of those guys, I know this sounds stupid.
02:42She still walks down the stairs when we're going somewhere and I still get that boom boom.
02:47Everybody knows I love her more than she loves me.
02:51Women still make an average of $0.82 on the dollar that a man makes and of course for African
02:58American women, for Latina, for Native American women, it's even much worse.
03:02What as president do you feel like you could do to finally address this problem?
03:06The idea that we are still in this mindset where young women today are battling with
03:14the notion that I did better than the guy sitting next to me.
03:17I'm smarter than he is.
03:18I worked harder.
03:19The idea that they're getting paid less is absolutely mindless and we have to change
03:25it.
03:25You've got to hold corporations and major enterprises accountable for the failure to promote and
03:32the failure to pay.
03:33Right.
03:35So if you could have dinner with one living woman who inspires you, who would it be and
03:42why?
03:43My two best friends.
03:44The people I go to that I look for advice for are from Jill, my wife, and my sister Valerie.
03:50Because they're completely honest with me.
03:53They can tell me things where I'm making mistakes.
03:56They can tell me about my shortcomings.
03:58It's pretty amazing, actually.
04:00So I just want to give you this last, you know, the last question really is what you
04:04would like to say to the millions of women out there who are still figuring out who to
04:07vote for.
04:08What's the best reason you could give them to elect Joe Biden President of the United States?
04:13I believe that from the very beginning I've ever been engaged in anything, there's not
04:18a single solitary thing, nothing, nothing, nothing that a man can do that a woman cannot
04:25do.
04:26And everything I've done is to give my granddaughters, my deceased daughter, my daughter that's alive,
04:32my sister, everybody in my family, an opportunity to have the best chance to meet their responsibilities
04:40and their potential.
04:43Remember, women are not only a majority of this country, we're a majority of voters and
04:47we have the opportunity to change the direction of everything.
04:50So the most important thing you can do is go vote.
