If you're anything like us, come summer you become a tad bit lazier. You walk a little slower to work in the morning, your lunch breaks tend to go longer, and beauty upkeep is basically non-existent. That dramatic haircut you had planned? Pass. Highlights? Forget about it.

So, when we heard hair-care brand Kevin Murphy had a way we could get our very own highlights without having to trek all the way to the salon, we were downright gleeful. The brand's Color Bug product claims to give your hair a temporary pigment that you can wash out as easily as you apply it.

We're no strangers to hair chalk, but the brand's Shimmer shade caught our eye — instead of a bright or pastel shade, it's a shimmery bronze. Obviously, we had to see what this would look like, which is why we tasked our associate fashion features editor Gina Marinelli with the job of testing it out. Check out the video above to learn the verdict.

00:06Hi, today inside the Beauty Test Lab I'm going to be trying out the Kevin Murphy Color Bug. It's
00:11like makeup for your hair. It's a chalk hair color that you can apply and wear it for one
00:17day or one night and then wash it out. I've chosen this coppery, bronzish color. I think
00:23it'll compliment and hopefully zhuzh up my own hair color that I have right now. And essentially
00:28you just put the chalk into your hair and it dyes it right away. So we're going to give
00:32it a go. So the first thing you want to do is put on a smock or a towel. The
00:36next thing
00:36you want to do is prep your hair with some kind of spray. I'm going to try a simple prep
00:41spray to get the chalk to adhere to my hair. So I think you just want to spray the ends
00:45until they're lightly damp. We're just going to start rubbing in the color and I'm going
00:48to start from the bottoms and see what happens. Rub a little vigorously. I guess just try to
00:54work it in a bit. And I'm starting to see it a little bit. It's not like a really drastic
00:58color. It's much more subtle and shimmery like fairy dust. But you can definitely see
01:03the difference between one side of my hair and the other. It will not stain your clothing.
01:06Just be warned that your hands will get a little dirty. So I'm going to finish up and do the
01:10other side so that we can see the complete look. I'm going to let it set for a few minutes
01:17and then take off my smock and see what it looks like. The texture kind of feels a little
01:25bit different. It actually almost feels like beach hair and that's kind of great. This
01:29bronze color worked really well for me. But if you want to be a little bit more daring,
01:33the Kevin Murphy color bug also comes in pastels and neons so you can do something really dramatic.
