Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva secured a historic fourth presidential term in Brazil, overturning a first-round deficit to defeat Flávio Bolsonaro in the runoff with 51.79% of the vote. Lula credited young voters, student demonstrations, and social media outreach for reversing the momentum. Flávio Bolsonaro challenged the outcome and demanded an annulment, claiming extended voting hours affected the result, an argument backed by Donald Trump. However, reports indicated only 35,000 votes were cast during the extension, far fewer than Lula's four-million vote margin. The dispute follows the 27-year prison sentence handed to Jair Bolsonaro in September 2025 for plotting a coup after his 2022 election loss.

00:0026th October. Luiz Inácio Lula de Silva made history by becoming the first
00:07president to win Brazil elections for the fourth time.
00:22However, the elections ended, the political war didn't. Lula actually lost the first round of
00:28voting but still managed to win the elections and the last time this happened was in 1985
00:34where the first round of defeat was overturned. This time, how did it happen? Let me explain that.
00:40Just after the first round of voting, youngsters, mostly students in Brazil,
00:44began protesting against Bolsonaro's family, against them returning to power. Remember,
00:50Jair Bolsonaro, the father of Flavio Bolsonaro, was imprisoned because Brazil's Supreme Court
00:55convicted him of plotting a coup to remain in power after losing the 2022 presidential elections to
01:01Lula. Prosecutors argued that Bolsonaro and his allies plan to prevent Lula from taking oath,
01:08including through a coup and plans to assassinate Lula and other officials. He was sentenced to 27
01:14years and three months in prison in September 2025. Interestingly, the father faced conviction for
01:20trying to reverse an election loss. His son has now disputed the outcome of his presidential race
01:26against Lula. Young supporters, therefore, and influencers use their online reach to organize
01:31demonstrations to promote Lula and persuade undecided voters. A WhatsApp group is said to have been
01:38really the game changer in his campaign. A WhatsApp channel led by Congressman Andres
01:44also grew about 11 million followers and supporters posted videos with viral hashtags with political
01:51messaging, all of which worked in favor of Lula. This helped to renew voters who didn't vote earlier
01:58to vote for the second time. It changed the entire scenario, flipped the elections and therefore Lula won
02:04with 51.79% of the vote, defeating Bolsonaro's 48.21%. Lula, in his victory speech, therefore thanked
02:13the young voters for their support.
02:15But I wanted to thank the Brazilian people for the generosity that they have with me for a long time.
02:25And in this
02:26second turn, I wanted to thank the generosity of the Brazilian youth who went to the street to defend democracy.
02:39Flavio, however, didn't accept the defeat. He's called the elections rigged. Even Donald Trump, who backed
02:45Bolsonaro, supported his argument. But there's no evidence whatsoever.
02:50It looked terrible to me. I thought it was a terrible look and I didn't take sides, but it looked
02:55like
02:56another rigged election, frankly. But what is Bolsonaro's allegation here? He claims that the Supreme
03:01Court's order for two hours extended voting time is the reason for his defeat and therefore has demanded an
03:07enormant of the result. This argument, however, didn't stand a chance because his own party reportedly
03:12demanded extra voting time due to heavy rains in Brazil's conservative-leaning South.
03:18Also, according to a few international publications, including Reuters, fewer than 35,000 votes were cast
03:24during that span, which is approximately 0.03% of the total vote. So there's no way that could have
03:30swung it. Lula won the elections with a margin of 4 million votes. This proves that this was the
03:36essentially a dead argument by Bolsonaro. The family has now fled. They've moved to America.
03:42Brazil's election has determined a winner. The political struggle continues. A contest of the
03:47outcome. The true challenge now is if the nation's institutions can maintain public trust in its
03:53democratic system.
