00:08Hi, this is Connie Wang with Refinery29, and today we're here with Christy Kurtz, our
00:12photo editor and resident DIY expert.
00:14The thing that we loved probably most from the Fall 2012 shows were these amazing hair
00:19accessories we saw at Rodarte, which were these celestial, star-studded thingamajigs
00:24of all the models we're wearing, and today we're going to be showing you how to make
00:27your very own.
00:28So, for this project, you won't need a ton of supplies.
00:30The first thing you'll need is two different sizes of star-shaped nail heads, some gold
00:34spray paint, jewelry pliers, wire cutters, a hair clip, and some thin and sturdy wire.
00:41To start the project, you'll cut off a piece of wire, take your jewelry pliers, and make
00:47a small circle.
00:49Once you have your circle, you're going to take one of these star nail heads, put it in
00:55the center, and you're going to close each of these pointy things in the middle of the
00:59star on top of the wire to secure it.
01:12So we're going to take one of the larger star nail heads, and this is going to be part of
01:30the center of the hair piece.
01:32So you want to turn it upside down, and starting with one of the gold stars that you made,
01:41you're going to put a second loop.
01:48So any extra wire that you have coming from the loop, go ahead and just cut that off.
01:52And then set it inside the little spokes.
02:02You do different lengths of wire, so maybe this one I'll make a little further away.
02:10So once you have your cluster put together, we felt that three, actually three little
02:13stars was just right for this particular cluster.
02:16You're going to want to close all of those little tabbies over all of the wires.
02:21It's a little bit tricky to do, but patience is key.
02:29Once you have all the center tabs down, you can start closing the outside tabs.
02:34So here is our first cluster.
02:36To make it bigger, we're going to start building off of that.
02:39Take your other big star and attach it at some point.
02:43Close up that particular tab to secure it to the existing smaller star.
02:50And then you're going to want to do the same thing.
02:52Start building off more and more, and so it just creates this beautiful, splayed out,
02:57celestial nighttime set.
02:59Once you have the whole setup put together, all the stars wired together, it's time to
03:04attach it to a clip.
03:06So turn it upside down.
03:08Cut off two extra pieces of wire.
03:12Thread the wire underneath the loop of wire that's already attached.
03:17Just like so.
03:19These wires are what we're going to use to attach it to the clip.
03:22So open up the clip, put this through one side, and this one through the other.
03:35So we're going to just twist them.
03:43Tuck this underneath because you don't want this to poke you in the head.
03:48So once you're finished assembling it, you can either finish and just wear it like this,
03:52but if you want it to be one uniform color, we're going to spray paint it.
03:56So to do this, you want to unclip it just so you don't accidentally spray paint the whole
04:01thing shut.
04:02Put it against a piece of newspaper or whatnot.
04:05You probably should do this outside.
04:12So this is the finished product, your beautiful star hair piece.
04:16We're going to show you a couple of ways to wear it, but for now, isn't it pretty?
04:38We're going to show you a couple of ways to wear it.
