00:02Hi, everyone. It's Taylor from Refinery29. Today, I'm going to show you some tips and
00:06tricks on how to choose the right foundation color for you. It's really important to find
00:09the right tone for your skin. Whether you're warm or you're cool, you'll want to get professional
00:14advice from a makeup counter. Once you've gotten that down, it's going to be a lot easier
00:18for you to pick something from a drugstore or on your own. Now, this goes for all skin
00:22tones, from the fairest to the deepest. Majority of skin is going to have a yellow undertone.
00:27A lot of women make the mistake of choosing a pink undertone foundation to match any redness
00:32that's in their skin, and they end up with that really severe line on their jaw or looking
00:36like a bobblehead. I always recommend choosing the foundation that matches not only your face,
00:41but also your neck and your chest. A lot of women try to choose it from their hand, and
00:46the color of your hand is a lot different than the color on your face, so you'll end up a
00:50little bit off. For instance, I would have picked the lightest color possible in the new Kat Von
00:55D long wear foundation, but when I swipe it on, you'll see definitely not my color.
01:04So choosing a more medium skin tone, which I probably wouldn't have gravitated towards
01:08at first because I'm so fair, is a more obvious choice, as this is going to blend right into
01:13my skin. If you have to swipe a couple of different colors on, that's probably your best bet. You're
01:19going to want to pick the color that is almost invisible on your skin once you blend it out,
01:23so you can tell that the medium tone is the way that I'm going to go.
01:26One of the biggest tips that I can offer is to take your foundation outside. I know that this
01:32seems really awkward, and a lot of people don't want to be seen outdoors with different swatches
01:36on their face looking in the mirror, but indoor lights and outdoor lights are completely different.
01:41The natural light is going to give you a more accurate representation of how the foundation
01:45is going to blend into your skin. Another great trick is to let the foundation settle into
01:49your skin for a few seconds before you make a decision. That way, you're going to tell
01:53if a lighter foundation blends in and sits naturally, or if a darker foundation is going
01:58to get too orange or too pink. So what happens when you're at a drugstore and you're not able
02:02to try the foundation on? Well, lucky for us, mass brands have done a little bit of a cheat
02:06sheet when it comes to naming their foundations, and they've added in warm or cool to the front
02:11of each color. For instance, the Rimmel Clean Finish Foundation in Warm Ivory is the color
02:15that I'm going to go ahead and check and see if it works with my skin tone. This is the
02:20one that I would probably pick if I was in a drugstore, but holding it up to my skin,
02:24it looks like it could be a little bit too yellow or maybe a little bit too light. So I'm
02:29going
02:29to show you what it looks like when we put it on. So if I were to test this on
02:34my hand,
02:35right away it would look way too pink, which isn't going to be the color that I want to go
02:38for. But on the face, this color blends in almost seamlessly. That is actually a perfect
02:49match. So there's some easy tips and tricks for choosing the right foundation for your skin
02:54skin tone.
