Limp, lifeless top knots make us sad. We hate to see a hairstyle that can't live up to its full follicular potential. But when you're twisting and manipulating your strands on the tippy-top of your head, it can be tough to make sure you don't lose volume while you're trying your damndest to pin those pieces in place.

00:01Hi, I'm Sarah Sloan, a New York City-based hairstylist, and today's beauty quickie is
00:06how to get more volume in your top knot.
00:11So to get started, grab a small brush and start brushing all your hair up to the very
00:18top.
00:20To help with any little flyaways, use some hairspray.
00:26I like Bumble and Bumble does it all.
00:28You can spray as much as you like and it never gets too hard.
00:32If you have bangs or some kind of bang section, it's good if your ponytail touches them.
00:40This is when you can choose if you want your bun more on the top of your head or over
00:43to
00:43the side.
00:45I'm going to do it a little bit more to the side.
00:50Feel for any bumps and if you feel some, just take your brush and brush a little bit more.
00:56Now, you can use a little hair powder to spray in your tail and split it into two, teasing
01:09both sections.

01:25Tie it once and then use your hairpins to secure.
01:40And that's a super easy way to give your bun a little bit more volume and texture.
