00:39Abdulraov Makakuha is elected Chief Minister of the Bangsamoro region as he secures a majority vote in its newly formed
00:46parliament.
00:47This during the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao or BARM Parliament's inaugural session.
00:52His election marks the transition from an appointed interim authority to a regular regional government following parliamentary elections on September
01:0014.
01:01Makakuha wins with 51 votes from among 80 members.
01:05He defeated former Interim Chief Minister Ahud Ebrahim, chairman of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front or MILF, which fought and
01:12then negotiated for the Autonomous Region.
01:14Ebrahim also led the MILF's United Bangsamoro Justice Party or UBJP.
01:18He got 27 votes.
01:20Makakuha represents the third parliamentary district of Maguindano del Norte under the Bangsamoro Federalist Party.
01:26He used to be one of the UBJP's leaders but broke away after President Marcos appointed him interim Chief Minister
01:32in 2025 to replace Ebrahim.
01:35Before that, Makakuha served as acting provincial governor and a senior minister of the BARM.
01:41The Department of Agriculture defends house lawmakers' insertions for farm-to-market roads, denying an NGO's claims they were made
01:49up.
01:49DA spokesman Arnel Demesa says the items came from a validated master list put together by the agency itself.
01:56Demesa says lawmakers could have taken projects from the DA's early budget proposal submitted to the Department of Budget and
02:02Management or from the master list of the Farm-to-Market Network Plan.
02:05He, however, admits lawmakers' staff members may have made mistakes in copy-pasting the project's details into the budget proposal.
02:13The People's Budget Coalition earlier flagged hundreds of insertions in the House of Representatives' version of the 2027 proposed national
02:20budget.
02:20The group says 15 billion pesos worth of projects lack publicly available supporting documents.
02:26It said some coordinates listed in the proposal pointed to locations at sea.
02:30Demesa says DA officials recently met with the PBC and explained that the discrepancies resulted from, quote, human error.
02:39Mayon volcano in Albay had what's called a moderately explosive eruption at 11.53 a.m. Friday, October 30.
02:46State volcanologists then raised its status from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 3.
02:51The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, or FIVOX, explains this means the volcano is in a new phase of
02:58magmatic eruption.
02:59Friday's eruption generated a 3-kilometer ash plume above the crater.
03:03FIVOX warns the municipalities of Daraga, Kamalik, and Ginobatan in Albay and adjacent towns to expect ashfall.
03:10It recommends evacuation from the 6-kilometer radius permanent danger zone surrounding Mayon, citing possible pyroclastic density currents or PDCs,
03:19lava flow, rockfall, and other hazards.
03:22PDCs are made up of fragmented volcanic particles, gases, and ash that travel down volcanic slopes at high speeds.
03:29FIVOX warns chances of PDCs from the volcano will continue in the coming days.
03:35The cybersecurity firm Hunt.io reports Wednesday, October 28, it found online 68 gigabytes of data potentially stolen from databases
03:44of a Philippine government agency.
03:46The Hunt.io research team says the thief copied the data, kept a receipt of it, then left that receipt
03:53and their tools on a computer anyone online could open.
03:56That mistake is how it came to light, not a public dump of the data.
04:00The firm adds it did not have the stolen data, but reverse-engineered the tools used and read the logs.
04:05The exact nature of the potentially stolen files have yet to be determined because the firm did not examine the
04:10data.
04:11But Hunt.io notes, the file names discovered match case management systems operated by agencies, including the Philippine Overseas Employment
04:19Administration and the Department of Migrant Workers' Balik Manggagawa online processing system.
04:24Hunt.io also previously wrote about a reported hack involving the theft of sensitive files from the Philippines' nuclear research
04:31agency.
04:33British actor Patrick Stewart passes away at the age of 86.
04:37He achieved global stardom as the erudite captain Jean-Luc Picard in TV's Star Trek The Next Generation and the
04:44telepathic professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movies.
04:47He rose from poverty in England to become an accomplished Shakespearean stage actor.
04:52He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 2010 for his contributions to drama.
04:56A statement on his ex-account read,
