00:01Belgium's Prime Minister Barthes de Weyfer was at the Royal Palace on Monday morning
00:06to offer his government's resignation to King Philippe following failed overnight budget talks.
00:11Following a meeting that lasted one and a half hours,
00:15the King announced he was considering the Prime Minister's resignation
00:17and will meet with other coalition parties on Tuesday before deciding whether to accept it.
00:23De Weyfer's coalition has been locked in protracted coalition talks to agree a federal budget for next year.
00:30With the government seeking 10 billion euros in savings by 2029 to reduce the country's high deficit.
00:36The government's right-wing parties want to clamp down on public spending,
00:41while the centrists and socialists propose increasing taxes on higher incomes and a VAT hike.
00:47A similar budget impasse also occurred last year when De Weyfer received a 50-day extension to reach an agreement.
00:55The latest government crisis takes place under pressure from trade unions,
00:59which have been mobilizing for months against austerity measures,
01:02while protests have brought tens of thousands of people into the streets.
01:13Thousands of supermarkets across Europe have reported issues with their freezers and refrigerators on Monday
01:19that were apparently caused by cyber attacks.
01:21Temperatures of fridges and freezers turned up overnight,
01:25spoiling hundreds of thousands of euros worth of food.
01:29Supermarkets were affected in Belgium, Estonia, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ireland,
01:34as well as this supermarket in Sweden.
01:53The incidents followed a similar incident last month in which control of refrigeration systems across France was taken over remotely.
02:02The CEO of refrigeration installer, Sapko Bell, told Belgian media the incident happened when the unit's evaporators were switched to
02:10defrost mode.
02:11He added a software update alone is not enough to address the vulnerability,
02:15with physical modifications required instead.
02:23EU foreign policy chief Kaya Callas has insisted the UK should first focus on collaborating with the EU on defence
02:31before developing relations in other areas.
02:34Callas was speaking during a meeting with British Defence Secretary Wes Streeting,
02:39as the two sides seek closer cooperation ahead of a EU-UK summit on November 20th.
02:44The discussions focused on Russia's continued aggression across Europe,
02:49including hybrid attacks and Europe's growing responsibility for providing military support to Ukraine.
02:56Both sides also addressed the future of Europe's defence industrial base.
03:01However, Streeting warned against the EU adopting a protectionist approach.
03:05We wouldn't be able to think what we need to be careful of avoiding is that that focus doesn't,
03:11which I think is healthy and necessary, and in our shared interest as well as our national interest,
03:16doesn't spread into self-defeating protectionism.
03:20I think that's the danger we need to avoid, because the stronger we are together,
03:24the more likely we are to deter Russia and other threats.
03:28His comments were directed in part at the bloc's proposed made-in-Europe industrial drive,
03:34which seeks to prioritise European manufacturers across important sectors, including defence.
03:40The UK is currently outside the initiative because it is no longer part of the EU's single market.
03:46London declined to join the EU's 150 billion euros security action for Europe defence loan scheme last year.
04:00The constitutional crisis in Poland has reached a peak on Friday,
04:05after Prime Minister Donald Tusk deployed police troops to the Tribunal Court to defend his changes to the judiciary.
04:12This conflict highlights the tensions between Prime Minister Donald Tusk's centre-right government
04:17and ultra-conservative President Karol Nawrotsky,
04:20The Polish Secretary of State and advisor to President Nawrotsky criticised this police dispatch on Euronews.
04:27There is a crisis. Of course there is a dispute over that,
04:31but even the lawyers who are very close to the Liberal government
04:36say that there is absolutely no legal basis for such a behaviour of the government.
04:43Demonstrators have gathered outside Poland's constitutional tribunal in Warsaw
04:47following the suspension of its president,
04:49while Tusk's government claims it wants to reform the judiciary to strengthen its independence,
04:54the right and the far-right denounce a putsch
04:57and want the judges denominated in the past to remain in office.
05:01We believe that there shouldn't be any my, his or their judges,
05:05there should be legitimate legal judges, not Tusk's judges.
05:09He added that there is a need for any kind of a restart for this constitutional issue.
05:19A leadjet plummeted into a neighbourhood in southern Florida,
05:23miles from US President Donald Trump's resort home on Sunday,
05:27killing all nine people on board, officials said.
05:30The crash occurred near Cresthaven, a neighbourhood in Palm Beach County
05:34that is less than 11 kilometres from Trump's resort home, Mar-a-Lago.
05:38Several unverified clips posted to social media depicting the deadly crash
05:43showed an aircraft nearly vertical slamming at high speed into the ground.
05:47Obviously, this was a cataclysmic plane crash.
05:51It looked like a missile going down.
05:53It left a big crater on the side of the road.
05:56I want to commend the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Department
05:59as well as the fire rescue.
06:01They were here immediately.
06:03There was a lot of debris that was spewn as a result of this crash.
06:08The plane came down near the entrance to a mobile home park,
06:12Palm Beach County Commissioner Joelle Flores said noting about 600 residents
06:17were evacuated and relocated to shelters.
06:20Storms had been reported in the area.
06:25I'm a proud Democrat and I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate.
06:33I am one vote in this state.
06:37Michigan is a swing state.
06:38This is a very close election.
06:40We all know that, but Abdul made very clear that I was not welcome in his campaign,
06:47that he didn't need me there, that he didn't want me there.
06:50And at some point, you got to look at who's standing for country.
06:56I stood with my party and I was booed off the stage.
07:02And, you know, it violently shouted down.
07:06You know, I was up there with other Democrats.
07:08Those people who are on that stage with me, they're going to make their choice.
07:12The ballot box is still very personal and private.
07:16Today, I'm honored to have earned that vote.
07:19You know, when I got the call this morning,
07:21obviously it's probably not the day we anticipated going forward today.
07:26But when we decided to, this would be good to worship together today,
07:30this is more a statement about standing together against hate
07:35and the future of this state and this country than it is anything else.
07:40And I just want you to know, she reminded me at the end of the call,
07:43remember, I'm still a Democrat.
07:51Ryanair reported a net profit of 2.15 billion euros for the period between April and September
07:582026, the first half of its financial year, ending March 2027.
08:04The result was 15% below the same period last year.
08:10This came as unedged jet fuel prices doubled while fares also fell,
08:15although passenger numbers increased.
08:18The airline, one of Europe's biggest, said it is reviewing cost
08:22as it prepares for a further rise in its fuel bill next year.
08:27According to the Irish airline,
08:28the Middle East conflict had made consumers more hesitant
08:32and led them to book later,
08:35as operating costs increased by 10% to 7.69 billion euros.
08:41Ryanair has warned its fuel bill could rise by around 2 billion euros
08:46in the financial year ending March 2028.
08:50According to CEO Michael O'Leary,
08:52unless there is a swift resolution of the Middle East conflict,
08:56put, we expect jet fuel prices to remain elevated well into 2027.
09:03O'Leary warned that cheaper fuel hedges would expire ahead of summer 2027,
09:08leaving European airlines facing much higher bills.
09:17This is the flat of Margarida Moraes,
09:20an 86-year-old woman who until recently was living alone
09:24until she opened her door to Liliana.
09:28The two now live together as part of a program
09:31that combines companionship with affordable housing for young students.
09:51Originally from Alantejo, Liliana decided to pursue a master's degree in Lisbon.
09:56Renting a room in the city center wasn't exactly affordable,
09:59but Liliana was also concerned about feeling lonely in the city.
10:03I feel that here in Lisbon there is a lot of individualism,
10:07it is everyone for themselves,
10:08and I had a little fear of arriving here
10:11and feeling very alone in a city so big.
10:16A social innovation program called Unidades connects university students
10:21looking for safe, affordable accommodation
10:23with older people who have a spare room in their home.
10:27In return, students offer companionship and a helping hand around the house.
10:33The program was created to tackle loneliness among older people living alone,
10:37but it also helps address the shortage of student accommodation
10:40in the portuguese capital.
10:43We have a lot of student subscriptions,
10:45we always have a lot more of students than seniors.
10:49And so, yes, you can see this difficulty that the country finds
10:53and that it needs to be accessible for students here.
10:58Because it gets a lot more accessible price for students here
11:02and it totally solves this lack, this excess that we have here
11:06at the value of the rents.
11:09After registering for the program,
11:11each applicant is evaluated on an individual basis
11:14to determine their perfect match.
11:17I feel that there has to be a person who can adapt,
11:22there has to be a person who is willing to give to themselves
11:25or to others,
11:27because I feel that there are a lot of people who would not be willing to do that.
11:31In the end, it is much more than just sharing a home.
11:34The two share stories, routines and everyday moments,
11:37showing just how meaningful relationships between different generations can be.
11:41Today, I'm I'm nice that you are.
11:43Take care!
11:44F work!
11:45Bye bye
11:45Bye bye bye bye!
11:45Bye bye bye bye, next time!
