00:00We found Durant. Durant got chippy. Durant, we'll play it later. We got to pull the audio.
00:05But yeah, I can see it here. Durant did that thing, Seth, where he's got somebody handed
00:09him the sheet with the stats on it and he's running his finger down it here. Yeah, he's
00:14running down. He's like, well, Jabari only had 14 and he had 30 the other night. Why
00:18aren't you asking him about his shooting volume?
00:21We should explain that. Durant wasn't being like selfish at all. It's the exact opposite.
00:25It was the way you presented that nowadays. It sounded like Durant was like, what the
00:29hell? Oh, yeah, yeah. No, you're right. That's good. I should clarify. Yeah. Durant
00:33Durant was asked a question about how he, you know, he only scored however many
00:36last night. He was five. He only took six shots. Yeah. There were seven rockets that
00:40took more shots than Durant. So he was asked like about his shooting volume. Is
00:43there an issue with that? And he's like, what's the issue? Like, why are you, you
00:47know, like we won the game, that kind of thing. We'll play the audio later. Yeah.
00:50It's just funny to look at the look on his face. Like he's staring daggers through
00:53whoever asked that question of him. It's pretty funny. All right. D'Amico Ryan's met
00:58with the media yesterday. Speaking of press conferences, um, the jumbo package has been
01:03a big talking point during the bi-week for the Texans using, uh, the jumbo when they bring
01:09in an extra offensive lineman. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So the Texans, um, run a lot. They ran
01:14it over 40% of the time in the game against the giants. And here's the thing to know about
01:17it. They're not good when they're in it. Uh, they're much worse running the football when
01:22they're in jumbo than when they're in other formations. And yet they, the Texans seem to look
01:26at it as this is the key. This is how we're going to run the ball despite all evidence
01:32to the contrary. Yeah. Well, it's the fact that they run the ball almost every time out
01:36of that set too. Yes. That's another fun part. They're very predictable. They predictably
01:41do the thing that they're horrible at when they're in this jumbo package. And so here was
01:46D'Amico. Yes. Just continually challenging Carl Lewis to a foot race. How are we going to
01:52settle this? How are we going to settle this? It's not going to work. You want to, uh, we're
01:56going to do a one-on-one pass rush or do you want to do a run, run a hundred
01:59meters? And
02:00every time I'm like, let's run a hundred meters. Right. Right. Like Seth challenge him to the
02:03shot put. You've got a much better, you've got a way better shot. All right. Honestly,
02:09I bet he'd kick my ass in the shot put. Maybe. Explosiveness that that dude, yeah. Maybe. Yeah,
02:13maybe. Um, so, um, so this was D'Amico yesterday on the, uh, on, on just kind of where they're
02:19at
02:19with this whole six offensive lineman thing. When we run jumbo out on the field, the idea is to
02:24be able to run the ball at our, at our wheel by getting an extra blocker out, a bigger burst,
02:30a bigger person on the edge to handle the defensive end, handle the edge players and see if we can
02:36generate some movement. When it comes to the run game, uh, it gives you that advantage. When you,
02:40the angles are right, you do it the proper way. Uh, disadvantages sometimes with jumbo is you don't,
02:46of course, have all of your passing threats on the field at the same time. So how do you utilize
02:50that to truly mix it up with the run and the pass, uh, combinations? I know we've gotten kind of
02:56heavy
02:57in the run category when we do have jumbo out there. So we looking internally on how we can, uh,
03:03uh, flip those numbers a bit and make sure we, we're not just a hundred percent when we're going
03:08out, you know, in jumbo, just a hundred percent run. Yeah. In which they're close. They're close.
03:13They've been close. They're at, uh, 80%. There's some games where they've been close to a hundred
03:17percent. Uh, the good thing is though, you know, that's, if that's what they want to work on,
03:21just know that they are, they're running, uh, uh, slightly less of the time, uh, when they're in
03:29jumbo this year compared to last year, compared to last year, last year, they're 79.9%. This year
03:33there's 78.8%. Okay. But it's by far their worst formation. This is like, in terms of success rate
03:38and everything else, like they're not getting, they're not getting anything out of it. And yet
03:42they insist on doing it. It's week nine. Okay. This jumbo thing has sucked all year. Like this
03:47is one of those things. You brought this up last week about, uh, the example you cited for this,
03:53this thing where the Texans are taking things that fans have been saying all year and like five weeks
03:58later going, Hey, you know what? This is a pretty good idea. You brought up Jalen Noel,
04:02Jalen Noel. There was obviously an explosive element to his game, but there was something
04:06keeping them from putting him on the field more than 10 or 12 snaps a game to start the season.
04:12And then lo and behold, they get behind the eight ball and they're like, you know what? Let's put
04:15Jalen Noel out there. And the kid is getting, you know, he he's, he's, he's catching everything in
04:19sight. He's making biggest explosive plays. And I think there's a frustration in the fan base
04:23that like, Hey, the average Joe that's sitting in section five 40 has been saying to do this all
04:30year. And it takes the Texans another month afterwards to do this. This is yet another
04:34thing. When I hear D'Amico say that yesterday, first of all, the, the use of the word run quote
04:39at our will, the notion of this offense doing anything in the run game at their will, at their
04:44will is comical to me. The goal is so we can run it at our will. Like, well, you were
04:49really failing
04:50miserably. They're just marching up to the line of scrimmage and like, you're how you're
04:54about to taste one and a half pounds of, or one and a half yards of fury. Yeah. Yes. This
05:00is like third and three. How about, how about we take two yards at our will? Yeah. At our
05:06will. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Oh, now it's fourth and one false start bastard. How's that? How's
05:13that taste? We're not even going to give you a chance. And the other thing, the other thing
05:18that D'Amico just said there, and look at the end result of this whole thing is that
05:22they use this formation less and, or if they do use it, that they're doing things a little
05:26more diverse out of it, then great. But the part, the other part of this too, that is
05:31just like sadly laughable is like, yeah. Cause normally this jumbo, you know, we don't
05:36have, you know, we have to take one of our receiving threats off the field. Yeah. Like
05:40Nico Collins. You mean like that guy, like the guy who's one of like the top 10 receiving
05:44threats in football. We got a really, really heavy run tendency, whatever we do. Yeah.
05:49Let's not keep Nico Collins out there to make him a little bit more nervous about the past.
05:54Let's really let him know that even if we pass, we're not going to be as good at it.
05:59No, no, no. The thing about doing things at your will is you have to make it more difficult
06:01on yourself. It's, it's, it's very frustrating. I didn't like also that D'Amico got up yesterday
06:07and like, I feel like he overcorrected from what he said at the beginning of this season.
06:11At the beginning of the season, he said that, you know, Hey, the defense is what it is.
06:15And the offense can come along for the ride. Now he's out there talking about how CJ and
06:21Kaylee, Kaylee specifically haven't gotten enough credit for how good the offense has
06:26been. And just all, all of these fireworks that have ensued. I very much, we've given CJ
06:31a lot of credit, I think for, for, for functioning amidst a whole lot of other subpar play on the
06:38offense. Um, but Kaylee, I'm not, they're not, there's no evidence that this offense
06:42is actually better than they were last year. I can't get, I can't give Kaylee a boatload
06:46of credit. He's the one calling all these jumbo plays that you just got done talking
06:50about five cuts ago. You know, like he's, he, their third down, their, their, their third
06:55down conversion rate is about the same. Yes. They're amassing more yards through the air
06:58and they've got more explosives. They're running the ball worse than they were last year.
07:02Like there's, there's not a lot that's actually measurably improved over what they were doing
07:07in the regular season. I think the mistake some people are making is they forget that
07:11the playoffs last year, wasn't a great reflection of what the offense was. No, that's true.
07:16That's true. Uh, all right. One more from D'Amico and then we'll get to headlines in the
07:19next segment. This is D'Amico speaking of the defense, um, on the defense getting right
07:24after the bye week. Defensively, we have to finish and that's been the theme of where, you
07:31think we didn't finish the game. We had multiple opportunities to finish it on our terms and
07:36we didn't do it. So can we get back to playing with an edge, uh, swarm play style mentality?
07:42Can that show up that mitigates missed tackles when multiple guys are at the football securing
07:47wrapping that mitigates the missed tackles. Can we do that? Can we play and truly rep our
07:52style? It hasn't shown up consistently throughout this year of the brand of football that I would
07:57like to play. Our guys understand that and they know we have to put that on tape. We play
08:02discipline football that hasn't shown up where we've been disciplined each and every week and
08:07we swarm that hasn't shown up. So those are the two things. When I talk about our identity and who
08:12we are, play fundamentally sound, disciplined football, swarm to the football, play with great
08:17effort, great physicality. You'll find a way to finish football again. Are you worried that effort
08:22seems to be an issue with this? Yeah. Yeah. I'm worried that honestly, like, cause I went through and I
08:26was
08:26trying to be, uh, during the bi-week, I was trying to be as unbiased as possible. Um, and say,
08:32okay,
08:32a lot of people are saying, all right, that, that D'Amico's defense is just too simple. And teams
08:37have figured out how to attack it. The problem I have with that is that nobody ever gives any
08:41examples of exactly why that's the case. So explosive plays have been a huge issue. And I went back and
08:47I
08:47watched all the explosive plays and each time I'm watching poor tackling, uh, missed assignments,
08:53um, guys getting beaten man coverage. The Texans defense has been much worse in man coverage this
08:58year. Cover one is their worst defense. Like for the, the myself included, I've said like, I don't
09:02know, maybe they need to play more man. They've been, they've been awful in man. Yep. Um, but they,
09:07yeah, the, the overall viciousness and ferocity of the defense is not what it used to be. And you go
09:12across guys in the back seven, Bullock, Lasseter, Petrie, Alshire, Stingley, uh, MJ Stewart,
09:18all of those guys are missing tackles at a much higher rate than they were last year. Like they're
09:23not, they're not playing with a level of physicality, uh, or in tenaciousness that you
09:28expect out of this defense. Yep.
