00:00As the world's kind of gone crazy with the accuracy or perhaps inaccuracy of pro football
00:06focused grades, PFF kind of revolutionized the football media business with their grading
00:12system.
00:13And then as time went on and PFF got sold and a lot of things changed over there, a
00:18lot of people questioned those grades.
00:20Famously, like players questioned those games, those grades.
00:25And like big name players.
00:27I mean, nobody has been more outspoken about the PFF grades than JJ Watt, who's a Hall
00:32of Famer and the lead analyst for CBS football.
00:36Just the validity of them, how they arrive at them, all that, right?
00:39And so in turn, we decided to launch our own grading service, the PMF grades.
00:44Yeah, hell yeah.
00:45And Brian, I don't normally start, but I'd like to, if you'd indulge me, I'd like to start
00:52at quarterback.
00:53Go for it.
00:54And there will undoubtedly be people that disagree with this tape.
01:02I don't really give a rip.
01:04Jaden Daniels opened the game against the Eagles 4 of 11.
01:07He did not look sharp early.
01:10On the touchdown drive that tied the game up, he was very sharp, went 5 of 6, ran for
01:1414 yards.
01:15He was good enough in the second half.
01:18Finished the game 16 of 29 for 217 with a touchdown.
01:22Again, did not turn the ball over.
01:24Had two rushes for 23 yards.
01:26Both of those picked up first downs.
01:28On both of those, he was not touched.
01:29One he slid.
01:30One he got out of bounds.
01:33The football performance for Jaden probably warrants a B, B-, something like that.
01:40But I'm giving him an A.
01:43And I'm giving him an A because I think most football positions, what matters most is how
01:52you perform on the field.
01:53Yeah.
01:53I think quarterbacks have to carry a different weight.
01:59I think quarterbacks, whether they should or shouldn't, and whether they're up to it
02:03or not, have to be looked at as leaders.
02:07And I think by and large, Jaden Daniels' leadership style is of action, not necessarily words.
02:14Right?
02:15And actions, not words, is a big part of life in my house.
02:19I try to teach my children that.
02:20It's easy to say things, what are you actually doing?
02:23Right?
02:24And I think actions are what matters most.
02:29But I think for Jaden Daniels, and I feel like this is something you've said before,
02:34you know, it's easy to blame the coaches.
02:37It's easy for fans to call our hotline and say, fire the coaches, all of that.
02:41But at some point, players are the ones on the field.
02:44There's a saying in sports, it's not X's and O's, it's Jimmy's and Joe's.
02:48Like, players are the ones on the field.
02:50There's no way Darnell Stapleton, David Blau, David Rye, Dan Quinn, Adam Peters, Josh Harris,
02:56Mitch Rails, Magic Johnson, are telling the offensive line to jump early.
03:01That is not a coaching point.
03:03Like, at some point, those dudes are jumping.
03:06And I thought for Jaden Daniels to gather the offense on the sideline in the first half
03:10of that game, when they were truly on the precipice of another dreadful performance and
03:16a loss that would have ended their season and maybe ended Dan Quinn's coaching tenure in
03:20Washington.
03:21The presence of mind and the gravitas to gather the offense on the side of the sideline and
03:31yell at him and take accountability for his portion of things.
03:35But say, we got to figure this out.
03:37This is not good enough.
03:38Enough is enough.
03:39That, to me, gets Jaden Daniels an A for this Eagles game.
03:44Because sometimes it's what you do on the field, but at the quarterback position, sometimes it's
03:48what you do off the field.
03:49And I thought that was just a huge moment for him as he continues to become the franchise
03:57cornerstone.
03:58And you don't have to do that every week.
03:59No.
04:00He's got to be himself.
04:02But he was himself in that moment.
04:04That's why, in my mind, I'm giving him the A before because when you start off slow and
04:09there were some drops in there, it's not all about him.
04:11He was off, I thought, but I think he had some balls that hit hands, too, that weren't
04:16caught.
04:18Quarterbacks are always talking to guys about something.
04:22That situation there, when you bring the whole crew, camera's going to catch that.
04:27I don't think he was doing it for cameras.
04:29No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
04:31I'm not saying nothing about him doing it for cameras.
04:33Him, the cameras catching it, gets those people who feel he needs to do that all the time
04:39to start saying, oh, look what he did.
04:42I'm sure he's talked to people before.
04:45You can watch on the sideline.
04:46He's going to guys individually saying different stuff.
04:49But at that moment, it was about what the team needed to do, so I felt that's what he
04:54did.
04:54So for me, I just think that with all the stuff he's dealing with, and how he keeps his focus
05:02on what he needs to, to bounce back and finish that game, they went 27 straight.
05:06And I know the Eagle fans are saying what they want to say, but your damn defense is
05:10intact.
05:11And they cooked that defense down the stretch.
05:14Agreed.
05:15I just, I think Jaden responded to what his team needed in that moment.
05:21And I think offensively, they were so bad prior to that, and then they looked different
05:27after that.
05:28To me, that's something that he deserves credit for beyond the play on the field.
05:32I mean, they opened so bad and then turned it completely around.
05:37And we'll get to the defensive grades eventually, and those guys deserve real credit.
05:41They were suffocating in the second half.
05:43But Jaden Daniels gets an A from me.
05:46The performance was probably a B, but just the overall body of work to have the wherewithal
05:51and the understanding of where his team was at to get them together and say, yo, let's
05:56snap the bleep out of this.
05:58Which leads us to the offensive line.
06:02Yeah.
06:04It's close to an F.
06:06You cannot open the game like that.
06:09Cosby was awesome.
06:10They were good against a tough Eagles front.
06:13But the opening of this game, from the line particularly, was so bad that, like, I don't
06:22know.
06:22Yeah.
06:22It was tough.
06:23I mean, the way that they opened it up.
06:25But they got it right at the end.
06:27And so, you know, I'm just going to not forget about all of them.
06:32I'm not at it.
06:33The dumb penalties.
06:34I'm not going to give you an F, but I'm not going to give you nothing better than a D
06:38-plus
06:38or a C-minus.
06:39Because I think they're digging holes that I'm sick of.
06:42And it's about time that you be docked for it.
06:47You know what I'm saying?
06:48Yeah.
06:49Maybe, just maybe, if you don't have those off-sides, I mean, those false starts, you
06:55have success early.
06:57You get what I'm saying?
06:59You go from, we're going to try this, or to all of a sudden, now you're out of field goal
07:02range.
07:03Right.
07:05So, I'm going with it.
07:06I'm going D-minus on it.
07:08Sounds crazy, but I'm going with that.
07:10Dude, I think I'm with you.
07:11You said D-minus?
07:13Yep.
07:13All right.
07:13I was thinking C-minus.
07:15Because the other part...
07:16I'm going to D-minus, because I'm telling you, the people who know the snap count is
07:22their offensive line, and they can hear it.
07:27And if you keep doing this every week, I'm not going to keep giving you no buys, no passes
07:32for it.
07:33I'm with you, dude.
07:34The other thing I wanted to point out with the offensive line, Jaden was hit a lot in
07:39that game and hit hard.
07:42People, the rush numbers, if you watch that game.
07:46And thought they ran the ball well, you weren't watching the same game I did.
07:51Now, if you just look at the numbers at the end of that game, it looks okay.
07:56Right?
07:57Because after the Eagles threw a desperation interception, Tanner McKee gets intercepted
08:04with two and a half minutes left in the fourth quarter on a fourth and 25.
08:08If you want to know where the game is, they went for it on fourth and 25 from their own
08:1328.
08:13The game is...
08:15Philly's desperate.
08:16Rasul Douglas brings in the interception.
08:18On the next play from scrimmage, Rashad White is able to rumble for 33 yards.
08:23To his credit, it was a 33-yard run.
08:27If you break that run out of the run game, they ran 23 times for 79 yards.
08:33You see this...
08:34I'm not saying you break that out.
08:36Yeah.
08:36But look at the totality of the first 58 minutes of rushing the football.
08:40It was bad.
08:41But still, because CJ, you and I disagree on that.
08:46You're looking for a per average.
08:48I don't care about a per average.
08:49I care about sticking to it and keep doing it.
08:52Because if you keep doing it, guess what happens?
08:54That 33-yarder happens.
08:56And for me...
08:58For me, I think the 33-yarder happened because Philly had kind of checked out at that point.
09:01Hey, you can take that.
09:02But you know what?
09:03By running the football constantly, you give yourself a chance.
09:07I agree on principle.
09:09There were chances earlier where they could have come out of some stuff where he just got
09:12tripped up here, foot got grabbed there.
09:15You know, I hear those things a lot where take it out.
09:18Like, I remember I had two carries for 105 yards.
09:22Guy go, take away the 85-yarder.
09:24You only have 20 yards.
09:26One for 20 is damn good, bro.
09:27Right.
09:28You know, so I'm just saying it's like you're not going to average four points something
09:35per carry every time, especially against that defense.
09:39But the stick-to-it-ness is what makes them have to worry about it where you can operate
09:43and do something off of it.
09:45I agree principally with you there.
09:47You'd like to see them better on third down.
09:49They're 5-13 on third down.
09:52They're bad on third down.
09:53That's a first down problem right there, too.
09:55It's a first and second down.
09:56It's both the run game having too many negative plays, and it's the penalties.
10:01Yeah.
10:02Like, you get in third and 12, and you're probably cooked.
10:05Yeah, more than likely.
10:06They're 31st in the NFL on third downs.
10:08Mm-hmm.
10:08Converting.
10:09Like, it's a problem.
10:10I'd like to see what their yards per first down is.
10:12I bet it's among the – see if you can pull that, Duby.
10:15I don't know if that's –
10:16That's something I think will tell you a hell of a story.
10:21Let's go to the running backs then, because I think losing McNichols – I asked Dan Quinn
10:25about it yesterday.
10:26That's when he opened up on the information.
10:28Looks like McNichols is going to miss considerable time.
10:30Watching him walk off the field looked like he was going to miss considerable time.
10:34You're now down to – Bill is not eligible to come back, I think, until the Arizona game
10:40after Thanksgiving.
10:42So you're now down to an active roster that has Austin Eckler and Rashad White on it.
10:48I said going into that game that I would like Jeremy McNichols to be the lead ball carrier.
10:54He may have been tracking for that.
10:56Then he gets hurt.
10:57It ends up being Rashad White.
10:59I'd like this team to get to a place where Rashad White is not their leading ball carrier.
11:03But now you only have him and Eckler on the active roster.
11:07You do have on the practice squad – Dan Quinn mentioned, he's like,
11:10we have options on our practice squad.
11:12We might have to consider a free agent.
11:15On the practice squad right now, you have Devin Neal, second-year pro out of Kansas,
11:19as well as Craig Reynolds, who's a veteran running back that has been up for this team.
11:24Got a crucial fourth down carry in London that did not convert.
11:29I don't know what to make of the running back position.
11:32A lot of people will point out, man, it'd be great if you had a six-round rookie that you
11:37released.
11:38I don't want to be rude to the Catron Allen people.
11:41I'm not sure he's an NFL back.
11:43That's over with.
11:44I mean, I think he's an NFL back.
11:46I just think that they let him go, and they're going to have to deal with what they have right
11:52now.
11:52And I have no issue with Rashad or Austin being the guys.
11:59If that's what you end up with, one thing you're going to have to do, you've got to adjust it
12:03a little bit.
12:04You can't just pound them, pound them, pound them.
12:05You've got to make them hit the off edges, misdirection, and all.
12:09I thought they did a good job of more stretch runs to the edges than trying the interior.
12:13Those things help for them.
12:15And then if you get a team where your offensive line, your interior line is dominating,
12:20you can go straight up the middle then.
12:23Grade for the running backs in this game, I would say kind of fine.
12:28Yeah.
12:28Like B- or something.
12:29Yeah, yeah.
12:30I'd go with that.
12:31I thought the receivers had a good game.
12:33Receivers did.
12:34Burks went 3-for-81.
12:35Antonio Williams, 5-for-54.
12:37Diggs had 3-for-38 with the touchdown.
12:40I thought from your receiving group, you had a good game.
12:45I don't know if you want to count Chig in there, if you want to break out tight ends.
12:48Not Chig tight end, isn't he?
12:49He is tight.
12:50Just break it down, yeah, yeah.
12:51Right.
12:51The receivers, B-plus.
12:55I mean, there were a couple drops in there.
12:57Mm-hmm.
12:58I thought the receivers were pretty good.
12:59B.
13:00B.
13:00B.
13:02Tight ends.
13:03You had Chig Okonkwo, two catches for 32 yards.
13:05Made an outrageous one-handed catch.
13:08Also had a fumble.
13:08Had a fumble.
13:10That fumble's a big deal.
13:11Yeah, big deal.
13:12Puts you down 10-0 in the first quarter.
13:14That's one of those things right there where you know you got a cue, but you caught it, and
13:18oh.
13:19Yeah.
13:19Yeah, it was tough.
13:20Yeah, yeah.
13:21D.B. made a great play, to his credit.
13:22Mm-hmm.
13:23But I, it's not a C with the turnover?
13:25C-plus.
13:26I mean, nobody else, no other tight end had a target or a catch.
13:31Certainly.
13:32Who we expected the other tight ends to have one, though.
13:35I mean, at this point, it's hard to expect it, right?
13:38Yeah.
13:38Um, doesn't mean they're not effective in, as run blockers particularly.
13:43Um, overall, offensively, you know.
13:48I think you go 27 on the answer against that defense.
13:52That's a, that's a plus.
13:55Sure.
13:55You'd like to get more touchdowns than, like when Trey Burks, when you hit the 53-yarder
14:00and it's first goal to eight, you'd like that to be six.
14:03Mm-hmm.
14:03Um, but you gotta get some points out of it.
14:07Right.
14:07You know who I'd, I'd loop in real quick, because I know we gotta do the defensive side of the
14:12ball?
14:12How about special teams?
14:13Two dudes specifically to highlight, I think, Luke McCaffrey gave them a lot in the return
14:18game.
14:19Mm-hmm.
14:19He had a really good kick return.
14:21He had a really good punt return.
14:22That punt return directly led to points, because he was able to get them to the 50 with like
14:2930 seconds left.
14:29Dan Quinn, to his credit, managed the clock very well to get that field goal just before
14:34halftime.
14:35I thought Luke was good in the return game.
14:38He had one punt return for 27 yards, one kick return for 44 yards, and they kind of put
14:44everything else where he couldn't return it.
14:48I also want to give Drew Stevens credit.
14:50He missed one.
14:51He missed one, but he bounced back.
14:52But I don't, I still don't like to miss.
14:55And the thing about Luke, when Luke hits it, he has success.
15:00When he's hesitant, he doesn't.
15:03So, this week, hit that damn line full speed.
15:08You're gonna have to.
15:09This is a very different beast coming to town than what you played Sunday night.
