00:00To continue with the deeper analysis, we have now the opportunity to speak with David López, an analyst and human
00:05rights specialist who will help us get a better overview of the midterm elections taking place in the U.S.
00:10this Tuesday.
00:11Welcome David once more here to From the South and thank you for your time here with us as always.
00:17Thank you, thank you for Telesur to open me this space. It's very important to be with you here.
00:23David, my first question would be, what is your take on these midterms? What is the crucial things that we
00:29must analyze regarding what the U.S. people are voting today?
00:35So I think that these elections are a referendum on the credibility of the American political system.
00:42It's not only about who controls Congress. This is about a two-party system captured by lobbies and corporations.
00:55The MAGA, the MAGA voter, is today disappointed. He voted for lower inflation, no wars and less debt.
01:05And he got exactly the opposite. History says the president's party loses the midterms, but this time the big risk
01:17for Trump is that his own voters stay home as punishment.
01:24And this is very important to understand, because the people in the United States are very tired and, of course,
01:32they need responses and they need as well to punish the mandate of Donald Trump, who promised many things, but
01:41he never accomplished.
01:42And maybe we can have some people from the Republican sector who will be in the abstention just to show
01:52to Donald Trump that they are not agree with the policies applied until today.
01:59There are many elements, many aspects that are marking voters in terms of the selection, the rising cost of living,
02:07the rising prices of fuel, of oil, the foreign policy, the words of Iran.
02:12As you were saying, there was a promise that he campaigned with no words in mind, but it was completely
02:18the opposite, as we have seen.
02:20But projections are putting that Democrats are likely to win both the Congress, the House and the Senate.
02:26In terms of foreign policy, in terms of the impact that this result might have for the foreign policy of
02:32the states, what really can change, if anything?
02:38I think that it will not change very much.
02:41We have just to understand who are behind of the power preceded by Donald Trump.
02:50And if you see during these two last years, Donald Trump did not resist to the pressure of the real
02:58powers.
02:59I mean, the military industrial complex and the Sionist lobbies.
03:04This is something we have to understand clearly.
03:07The clearest case is the war, for example, against Iran.
03:11The CIA and the Pentagon told Donald Trump that war could not be won.
03:19Even so, he gave into Netanyahu's pressure.
03:23And the result today is clear.
03:26More than 60% of the U.S. citizens are against the war.
03:31The cost of living keeps going up, and the public debt is on the record levels.
03:40So he did not fail because he could not deliver.
03:47He governs for the other interests and not for his people.
03:52And we can see that as well in the situation happening as well between Russia and Ukraine.
04:01The lobbies are behind of it, even in Iran and even in Latin America.
04:07And we see what happened today in some countries who were more or less manipulated and controlled
04:15and are again controlled by Washington in Colombia, in Argentina, in Chile.
04:23And even they threat a state like Venezuela, who today has to dance with the interests of the U.S.
04:30government
04:30and the orders of these corporations.
04:35David, thank you very much for your input here from the South and for your time.
04:42Thanks to you.
04:43And of course, I recommend to the people to follow these elections.
04:48But overall, to be conscient that the United States, unfortunately, is governed by some corporation interests.
04:58But fortunately, we are in times where the people are waking up
05:02and maybe it could give the opportunity to have a third party, maybe very good needed in the United States.
05:10Thank you for being with us as always.
