00:09databases that contain a wide variety of network parts. We use parts lists to select network parts
00:18from the catalogue to be used within a pipe network. Parts in a catalogue can include pipes,
00:27fittings such as bends and tees and appurtenances such as valves or hydrants. A pressure network parts
00:37list can contain only parts from one catalogue so the first task is for us to set the catalogue.
00:46From the Iowa City 0801 project design models folder open up the pressure pipe network drawing.
00:59Next click the create design drop down and select set pressure network catalogue.
01:07The catalogue folder is the file path that the catalogue databases are stored in.
01:13We're going to leave this as the default folder as we'll be using one of the standard Civil 3D catalogues.
01:21We can then choose the catalogue by clicking the drop down and for this pipe network we're going to use
01:28the imperial steel catalogue. Once the catalogue has been set we can create a parts list.
01:36To do this we're going to use the settings tab within tool space and expand pressure network.
01:45We can then expand the parts lists and see that there are two default parts lists but for this network
01:51we're going to create a new one. Right click on parts list and then click new.
01:58If we then navigate to the information tab we can name the parts list.
02:04Pipe networks are split into three categories. These are pressure pipes which will be the pipes themselves.
02:12Fittings which are the objects used to join the parts together.
02:18And the appurtenances which contains objects such as valves or hydrants.
02:24We're going to start by adding some pipes to the network.
02:28To do this we navigate to the pressure pipes tab and right click on the new parts list.
02:37We then select add material.
02:42From here we can select which material we want the pipes to be made out of.
02:46In this case there's only steel pipes within the catalogue.
02:50So we can select steel by ticking the checkbox and then click ok.
02:57Next we need to add the pipes.
03:00Right click on steel and click add size.
03:04From here we can select the size of pipes we want to be added.
03:08For this example we're going to add a 6 inch pipe.
03:12We're then going to move on to fittings and again we right click the new parts list and click add
03:19type.
03:21For this parts list we're going to add an elbow and a tee.
03:27We can then right click on each of the fittings and click add size.
03:33For these fittings we're going to add all the bend angles for a 6 inch pipe.
03:41To do this we're going to keep the nominal diameter at 6 inch to 6 inch.
03:47And change the bend angle to all the available options.
03:52This is going to make it easier when it comes to designing our pipe.
03:57If we were using multiple pipe sizes it may be easier to select add all sizes.
04:04But as we're only working with a 6 inch pipe it's best just to add the individual sizes.
04:10So that our parts list isn't cluttered.
04:14And for the tee we're going to add a 6 inch to 6 inch fitting.
04:20Again if we had different pipe sizes we could change the size of the fitting.
04:24So for example if we had an 8 inch pipe we could also add a 6 inch to 8 inch
04:30fitting as well as an 8 inch to 8 inch fitting.
04:34For appurtenances we're going to add a 200 psi C500 gate valve.
04:42As well as a hydrant for each of the different heights.
04:47By adding each of the different depths of hydrant we are giving ourselves more options when it comes to designing
04:54the cover distance for our pipe network.
04:57And the hydrants only come in a 6 inch fitting.
05:03We have now created our custom parts list that can be used to create our pressure pipe network.
05:09So...
