00:00Over 1,000 people packed St. Bernard Church in Mount Lebanon last night for a
00:04prayer service to sing hymns and hear from the church's pastor. The community
00:08is grieving Tuesday afternoon's murder-suicide that took the lives of
00:12Patrick Lynch and his children James and Caroline. Marion Garrity was there and
00:17told KDKA-TV. The community remains shocked, surprised, grieving for sure, and
00:25I think I just want to be part of how we come to celebrate the lives of these
00:32children and Patrick. The three fell to their deaths from a parking garage next to
00:37Mount Lebanon's municipal building. A memorial started behind the garage but
00:41was moved to the pavilion at Clearview Common away from traffic and there is a
00:46vigil tonight at 7 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. A man accused of misusing
00:51hundreds of thousands of dollars from contracts with governments turned
00:54himself in on Wednesday here in Pittsburgh. News Radio KDKA's David
00:58Palorado has more. Defense attorney Al Rees tells KDKA that 62-year-old Emmett
01:03Miles of Newstanton turned himself in and will plead not guilty to the charges at
01:07his preliminary hearing. Miles is facing nearly 30 charges following a grand jury
01:11investigation into public spending during the Ed Ganey administration. He's
01:15accused of using companies and non-profits he controlled to get nearly
01:18$400,000 in state, county, and city contracts but according to the grand jury
01:23presentment he spent the money on himself with very little evidence of the
01:26money being used for its actual purpose. David Palorado, News Radio KDKA. A man
01:31arrested on drug charges connected to a fatal shooting in Murraysville last month
01:35is now facing a homicide charge. Police say Nelson Hill was the gunman in the
01:39October 25th incident on Sardis Road. Adam Carter was shot in the head in a
01:44vehicle and died at a local hospital three days later. Police say Hill was a
01:48passenger in that vehicle with Carter and two other men when there was an
01:52altercation. Hill allegedly pointed a gun at them before firing the deadly shot.
01:58Two people died Wednesday afternoon when the van they were in crashed on the PA
02:02Turnpike in Westmoreland County. That vehicle left the roadway and went over a
02:06hillside a few minutes before 5 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the Turnpike near an
02:11overpass in Hempfield Township. The coroner's office says a passing driver
02:15spotted an intense fire shortly after the accident and called 911. The names of
02:20the victims are not known yet. Two notable events are on today's schedule at
02:25the City County Building. Pittsburgh Mayor Cory O'Connor will deliver his first
02:29State of the City address and also present his 2027 budget to City Council.
02:35That is scheduled at 10 a.m. in Council Chambers. An hour later in the same room
02:39the mayor will swear in Matt Davis as the new chief of the Bureau of Fire.
02:44And the ninth largest Powerball jackpot was won last night in New Jersey.
02:48The lucky winner has a big decision to make. Take a one-time cash payment of
02:53$363.1 million before taxes or receive the jackpot through annual payments of
02:59over 29 years. From the Zero Res commercial sports desk the Penguins will try to
03:05snap a three-game losing streak tonight at 7. The Pens are hosting the Bruins.
03:09Also at 7 in college basketball. Buffalo visits Pitt and Chattanooga is at
03:13Penn State. At 8, Jacksonville is at Baltimore in the NFL.
