Jammu and Kashmir's ruling National Conference is facing internal dissent following the cabinet expansion on October 27, which saw four new ministers inducted into Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's council. Approximately 15 to 16 dissident legislators held multiple closed-door meetings, including one at the residence of legislator Justice Hasnain Masoodi, to strategise their demands. The disgruntled lawmakers are seeking an overhaul of the cabinet, calling for the removal of ministers who have completed two years in office. Resentment grew after senior figures, including six-time MLA Mubarak Gul, were left out of ministerial positions. Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah resigned, prompting accusations against the Bharatiya Janata Party regarding attempts to split the party. However, the BJP dismissed claims of orchestrating 'Operation Lotus', maintaining that the ongoing friction is strictly an internal matter of the National Conference. The dissident group is scheduled to meet party patriarch Farooq Abdullah to discuss grievances and resolve the deadlock.

00:00National Conference, that is a political arena of Jammu and Kashmir, is looking at a rocky patch.
00:06Why? And especially Omar's cabinet. Why? Because the National Conference is staring at an internal rebellion,
00:12putting Omar Abdullah's leadership under pressure.
00:15It's a brewing revolt that could now snowball into a major political crisis in Jammu and Kashmir.
00:20India Today's exclusive scoops reveal 15 dissident MLAs held a secret huddle
00:25with four meetings since the October 27 cabinet reshuffle.
00:30Rebels are set to meet Farukh Abdullah today, demanding the removal of ministers who have completed two years.
00:35Omar Abdullah too could meet the dissidents.
00:38But then the question that remains is, what was the trigger point for this revolt?
00:42Well, we have in fact traced it back to October 27th's cabinet expansion.
00:48Four new ministers were inducted, taking the council's strength to nine.
00:52With the exclusion of the senior leaders, particularly six-time MLA Mubarak Gull, triggered resentment.
00:59Allegations of repeated humiliation soon turned into an open dissent against the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself.
01:05The BJP, however, has rejected the Operation Lotus charge, insisting that it has nothing to do with the NC's internal
01:12crisis.
01:12Because remember, time and again, the rebels have also come out to level allegations at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah
01:18that he has been acting on the behest of the BJP.
01:23As the rebels close ranks, the big question is whether Omar can contain the revolt and keep his government intact.
01:30Because that is now what it's come down to.
01:33Take a look at some of the reactions that have come in so far.

04:19Sunilji, a very good morning to you
04:21you know, while there is a crucial
04:23meeting that's coming up between the
04:25rebel MLAs and Faruk
04:27Abdullah, but I just want to
04:29understand the scenario here
04:30if, say, the meeting doesn't go
04:33as per the expectations
04:34there is no solution
04:37to the deadlock that currently exists
04:39is there a chance that the
04:40rebel MLAs come in
04:43to form a group and
04:44perhaps launch a new front
04:46a new party and challenge
04:49Omar Abdullah and more
04:51such MLAs also resigned from his cabinet
04:54thus leaving him with
04:57leaving him below the majority mark
04:59that's needed to form the government there
05:01and maintain the government there
05:07well, Shriya, all eyes are on today's important meeting between NC Patriarch
05:12Dr. Faruk Abdullah and the dissident MLAs of the national conference
05:17ahead of this crucial meeting today
05:19the dissident MLAs met last evening at the residence of Pampoor MLA
05:26Justice retired
05:29and they chalked out the future course of action
05:33they discussed the strategy
05:34for this meeting
05:36but as far as your question is concerned
05:39yesterday at that meeting
05:41that took place at Justice
05:42Hassan and Mosudi's residence in Srinagar
05:45about 15 national conference MLAs were present
05:49there one independent MLA was also in attendance
05:52so in total 16 MLAs were present
05:54but the rebel group claims that there are a few more MLAs who are
05:58you know, supporting them
06:00they are going to discuss the issues
06:03with Dr. Faruk Abdullah
06:05they are going to put forth their demands
06:07before Dr. Faruk Abdullah
06:08but in case, as you said, that the deadlock remains
06:11then the MLAs are going to meet again
06:13they are going to discuss their future course of action
06:17Shriya, one has to understand that there is anti-defection law in place
06:22and as per that law
06:24more than two-thirds MLAs should be there
06:27and only then they can, you know, have a separate grouping
06:30and they can avoid disqualification
06:33but if the number of the MLAs are below two-thirds
06:36then the options before them is that they have to resign en masse
06:41and then the strength of the assembly will come down
06:44and there is a possibility that Omar Abdullah will fall short of numbers
06:48and then these dissident MLAs will have to fight the elections again
06:52but that's a hypothetical scenario
06:54as of now, the national conference claims
06:57that all is well
06:58and this rebellion will be quelled
07:00and the Daos, this rebellion fire will be doused
07:03and there is a possibility that Faruk Abdullah will reach out
07:06and a middle ground can be found
07:08Right, so right now that is a far-fetched possibility
07:12Sunilji, as you are mentioning
07:14and thank you for putting that into context for our view
