00:00Like, let's be clear. Babs has always been a hard worker. Even, you know, when I was going through like my party phase, like I would still show up to work and they'll tell you, like I would still show up to work. I would sleep in my vehicle, sleep on the radio station couch, you know, after partying. So I've always like I've always been a hard worker.
00:21I was at home in my apartment and it was like a 727 number and I was like, oh my God, like what is this? He's like, hey, this is Orlando. I was like, oh my God.
00:37What up? My name is Babs and I do 10 to 3, aka middays on Wild 94.1. All right, so I was born and raised in Detroit. Back home, you just see people doing the same thing and I just didn't want to get caught up doing the same thing.
00:50So my mom said, go where the money is, which means wherever I got a scholarship to, that's where I was going. So that's why I ended up going to FGCU in Fort Myers.
01:00I was just looking for any internship in the beginning, but I fell in love with the station. We would go out and do van hits, you know, me and five other street teamers.
01:11Like we were all a part of the Wild Bunch. And then eventually, like I learned like the skills of radio and how to be an on-air jock and went from people calling me Chandra to Babs.
01:22But all my friends say like, oh, you're our wildest friend. Like out of all my friends, you know, I'm the only one that's single and with no kids.
01:31Well, it's definitely my best friend, Caitlin. We the same. We the turn up twins.
01:35So that's why I call myself Wild Babs. I've always just been like wild and crazy.
01:40I wasn't like all the way gone on pills, but you could definitely like tell that I was probably doing some substance.
01:47Like it was one night even when I had like fell asleep running aboard for a club event.
01:51And so then it was the next time I had actually passed out in the station vehicle at this event.
01:57And so I know and you know what? I actually called and was talking to Big Mama about what was going on.
02:05And then he, you know, him and my mom talked and then Brad Beasley talked and Adam and all of them.
02:11And then that's when I went to rehab.
02:13You start to do drugs, like your world crumbles and it does, but you can build it back up.
02:19Like you just don't give up.
02:22So that's kind of like why I started talking about it.
02:26It was no more pills for me because I was like, I do not want to take my back to rehab.
02:30So no more pills for me.
02:33There was this bald headed red head man or with red beard, Big Mama, by the way, that's his name.
02:38He came in and he was like looking at everybody in the studio and he asked me to do traffic.
02:43And he was like, wow, like you did traffic great.
02:46Like we want you to be a part of the show.
02:47So I was like, oh my God.
02:49So then that is the day that I literally like that.
02:51I literally became the female on the show was that day.
02:55I did, I did this like radio show and this girl baps, I think it's like the wild bunch.
03:00A shock jock show.
03:01Yeah, where it's like, wake up.
03:03And you're like, I'm awake.
03:04Yeah.
03:04But one of the girls gave me a giant dildo as a gift.
03:08As a joke, yeah.
03:09As a gift.
03:09I like them.
03:10It was just kind of like a gag gift, you know?
03:12So I gave her the gag gift and I didn't know she was going to talk about it on Conan O'Brien,
03:17but I was so excited.
03:18Somebody texted me and was like, girl, did you hear Nicole Byer was talking about you
03:22on Conan O'Brien?
03:23I was like, no.
03:25She was like, no, she was talking about you on Conan O'Brien.
03:28So I looked up the clip and yeah, this girl said I talked about me on Conan O'Brien.
03:32It was lit.
03:34That was like the best part of my 2018.
03:36I love everybody down there and I love everything about it, but it's kind of like, you know,
03:41when it's time to spread your wings and grow and go, that's what I wanted to do.
03:46But I've always wanted to work for this station and that's what I told O in the interview.
03:51I even watched all the I Am Wild, so it's cool that I get to do one right now.
03:55I saw in Orlando's I Am Wild that he knew that he wanted to work for this station when he
04:03went to the top of like a parking structure.
04:05I remember this and he started that song, You Belong to the City.
04:08I hired a singing telegram to come up here and sing that song.
04:12You belong to the night.
04:16In the reaper of darkness, is the man of the night.
04:22Orlando called me and he was like, hey, I want to offer you the job.
04:26I started crying immediately.
04:28I was like, damn, they let my ass, they're going to let my ass be on Wild 94.1.
04:35They're going to let my behind be on Wild 94.1.
04:36Like I was so excited.
04:39I was so excited.
04:40I called my mama.
04:41I called, like it was, it was just an exciting time.
04:44Like I've been to all the wild splashes, you know.
04:47I went to the one with the Amigos.
04:49I went to the one with Lil Wayne.
04:50I went to the one with Cardi B.
04:53I went to a bunch of them.
04:54So I definitely had to come up.
04:56And plus I like Tampa.
04:57I like turning up in Tampa.
04:59Club Sky.
05:00So I'm, like I said, like I'm a girl's girl.
05:02So I have no problem talking to girls, you know, buying them shots and just having a good time.
05:08Chris John always has the vibes right in Club Sky.
05:10I like working at Wild 94.1 because it's passionate family here.
05:16And I call it the listeners family.
05:18Like I don't really like to call them like listeners or fans.
05:20But you guys just have like a, you guys.
05:24I'm a part of it now.
05:25We have like a passionate family here.
05:27And people that really care about you just overall.
05:30And I like the fact that I get to express myself freely on the radio.
