00:00My mom goes, I want to meet him. I want to meet William Jenner. I go
00:03So Shatter real quick. All right, I'll make this fast. So first encounter was we're doing
00:15the what's it called? We're doing big time rush and we're on the Star Trek stage at Paramount.
00:22Right. How cool. I am so excited. I'm a big Star Trek fan. And I look out the door of our
00:28soundstage and there is William Shatter and he's with Dr. Phil and he's just sitting on
00:33the back of a golf cart. And I know Phil a little bit from being around. So I'm like, I'm going
00:39to go over and say, what's up? So I walk over in front of my whole cast. I walk over. I
00:44go, hey, what's up, Phil? I go, hey, Mr. Shatter. I'm such a huge fan. And it's such an honor.
00:52We get to shoot on your soundstage. Would it be okay if I got a picture? And he went, no,
00:57meeting me is enough. Oh my God. Meeting me is enough. Yeah. Classic Shatner. Shatner.
01:07Yeah. Right. How did you respond? I just was like, uh, and then, and then Phil was like,
01:12I think you should go. I think you're done. I think you're done here. Encounter number
01:18one. Encounter number one. And then everyone from my cast heard him say that. So anytime
01:23I'd be like, let's get a picture. They'd be like meeting us is enough. The worst. Okay.
01:29Number two, number two story. Um, I go to this charity event, right? And who's there? Who's
01:36there hosting the charity event? William Shatner. And it's like an Arabian, like he's
01:40into horses. Yeah, it was about horses. Yeah, exactly. And my mom is with me. I brought my
01:44mom. So she's, she's a big fan. And, uh, so he, we finished the event, right? And, um,
01:52Shatner did such a great job and he's sitting outside in his car, cars running and he's just
01:57texting in the front seat, cars running, texting window down. Okay. I, my mom goes, I want to
02:04meet him. I want to meet William Shatner. I go, she goes, Oh, come on. It'll be so much
02:12fun. I go, I go, I go, all right, mom, I'm going over. So she walks over and she goes,
02:18Mr. Shatner, I just want you to, my mom is the nicest person on the planet, by the way.
02:23She walks over, Mr. Shatner, I'm just wanting to let you know. I think it's so wonderful what
02:27you're doing with this event and, and supporting the equestrian community. And I just think that
02:33your choices that you've been, and he goes, uh-huh. Takes his foot off the break and rolls
02:38away. That is amazing. Two. I mean, my mom turns to me, she goes, do not ever tell that
02:47story. I go, I'm telling everyone that story. Are you kidding me? As far as dick moves go,
02:53man, that's like, that's impressive. That's an impressive move. Yeah. That's like, that's
02:57like, I can't talk to you. I have to go wait over there. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Yeah. He didn't
03:01even drive that far. He just rolled like 10 feet out of her way. So, so that was kind
03:09of, you know, those were the two stories for years. And I was like, man, screw this guy.
03:12I'm out. Right. And then, um, I get a phone call from this company, Legion M. And they're
03:19like, Hey, we're doing this big documentary with William Shatner. And, and he's getting
03:25his handprints put in the cement at, uh, the TCL Chinese theater. Right. Would you consider
03:32hosting it? I was like, did you ask him? They go, no. I go, perfect. I'm in. Oh, I'm so
03:40in. Right. So I get up, I get up. It's CNN is there filming. This is all live. I get up
03:47and, um, I go, I go, um, I go, ladies and gentlemen, and we're so excited to be celebrating
03:55William Shatner today. Everyone applause, applause. I go, or as I call him Bill, cause he's my best
04:03friend. Bill and I are best friends. And Bill Shatner goes, William Shatner goes, what? Like
04:11turns red. Right. I go, aren't we Bill? Aren't we the best of friends? And he's like, he could
04:19see, he's steaming. Right. Right. And I go, I go, I go, we have so much in common, him
04:25and I, we have so much in common. He has five Emmy awards and I have half a kid's choice
04:30award. So very similar. We're very similar. Uh, and I just start kind of like, kind of
04:37making, saying nice things about him, but then kind of crapping on myself. Right. You're
04:42doing self-deprecating. Self-deprecating. And it, it's so late. And he's like, he's kind
04:48of lightening up to me. Okay. Right. And then I go, I go, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome
04:53our first presenter. The only guy to, um, to make, to make it through a knife fight with
05:01Gene Shalit. Give it up for Leonard Maltin. Right. So everybody that I'm bringing up, I'm
05:06like, I've got jokes, you know, and I'm just, I'm just bang, bang, bang, bang. Um, and
05:11it, by the time it's over, we have, we've made some sort of connection. I don't know if
05:17it's good. You're not friends. Well, he, he. We're, we're not friends, but we've got
05:20something. Right. He's tolerated the follow-through and he realized because the crowd is responding
05:23favorably to you. Oh, I'm killing. Right. So yeah, he can't, he can't hate on me if I'm
05:27killing. At least publicly. Publicly. Yeah. Yeah. So we finish this thing and he's sitting
05:33alone by himself and he sees me and he goes, Hey, you get over here. And I'm like, oh crap.
05:41And I go over and he goes, grab a seat. And we sit, I'm sitting across from him at a table
05:46in this empty restaurant and he's having breakfast. And he goes, uh, funny. I go, oh, thanks,
05:53man. Thanks. He goes, uh, where are you from? I go, uh, my whole family's from Cote St.
05:58Luke in, um, Montreal. He goes, that's where I'm from. I go, oh, I know. My family's been
06:06talking about you since I was born. You know, like you've been the, the thing that everyone,
06:11you know, I go, I think you actually slept with my aunt to be my great aunt. I'm pretty
06:15sure you may have slept with her back in the sixties. He's like, really? I go, oh yeah,
06:20I'm, I'm pretty sure that, you know, maybe not, but she taught, she says that you did
06:23God, you know, I mean, they love you up in Canada, you know? And he's like, ah, so, uh,
06:29what about your, uh, he goes, you're, um, he goes, what about you? What's the, where's
06:34your mom? Where's she at? Where's she from going to live? I go, oh, she's here in San
06:37Diego. He goes, oh, that's nice. Um, what about your dad? I go, I have no idea. I don't know
06:42where my dad is. He goes, you don't know where your dad is. I go, oh yeah, we haven't
06:46spoken in like 15 years. My father and I are on the outs. Right. And he goes, he
06:53goes, oh, that's a, that's too bad. I go, yeah, you know, growing up, my father was
06:58obsessed with Star Trek. Like he watched your series all the time. Like it was the
07:04only thing that he watched and I couldn't watch it for, you know, the last 30 years.
07:09I never watched Star Trek because he loved it so much. And then during the pandemic, I
07:15decided to watch the whole thing and I watched every single episode and my God, I
07:21was like, Shatner, you killed it. You're amazing. No wonder Canada loves you so much.
07:25I mean, you're a beast. You're amazing on the show. And he goes, so your, your, your
07:31dad's a fan. Yeah. He goes, you know what this means? You got to me first. I go, yeah,
07:39I guess I did. He goes, you know what that means? I go, what? He goes, it means if I'm
07:44ever sitting on an airplane and a guy sits down next to me and he goes, I'm Steven Glickman's
07:49father, I can turn to him and go, oh yeah, I heard about you. You're a piece of.
07:57Is that not awesome? And I go, wow. And he goes, well, I'm sure your mom's proud of
08:03you. Pats me on the shoulder, gets up and goes, I got to go talk to some, uh, make a
08:08wish kids. And then walked off. Dude, I mean, it was the best full circle. That could be
08:15a movie. It was so intense. Yeah. Pop culture, Lord of the Rings. It's a, it's a story in three
08:23parts that ends with a heroic win. It's just unbelievable. It's a crazy thing. He would
08:29think to say that. I mean, to tell me that I made it to him first was like, uh, it kind
08:38of knocked me off my chair a little bit. It was pretty intense.
