15:55back up offensive unit none of the offensive line starters are in there and or running back receivers obviously quarterback
16:01and now it's a third and ten for Tampa Bay by the way you could throw anybody new rule this
16:09year anybody can throw the flag on the sideline for the challenge I think you told me there was Todd
16:12in this case Todd Bowles who threw this still has the red flag in his back pocket but yeah that's
16:16a new rule.
16:17I'm sure they coordinated if anybody else sees something worth the challenge anyway from their own 21 Connor Bazelak gets
16:28rid of it quickly to Patterson.
16:29Patterson can he get the first out of the Jets swarmed him and two of them got to him in
16:33a hurry.
16:35Patterson a rookie from Georgia Tech.
16:40Patterson a rookie out with kind of a toe injury he was going to play roughed up a little bit
16:45this week.
16:46Connor Bazelak had to hide a low he had Ted Hurst running in behind Patterson right there he just has
16:51to dump it off and the Bucs fail on third down.
16:53Patterson an interesting guy homegrown right he's from our area in Lakeland correct.
16:58He's in a very deep receiving room but off the coordinator Zach Robinson talked pretty glowingly of him and the
17:07type of camp that he's had and some of these injuries at wide receiver.
17:10Pritchett stumbles at the 14 and can't get back to the 15 there is a flag down at the 16
17:16yard line.
17:18Over on the Bucs side of the field but it came out early.
17:24Rishad Wisdom making the special teams play on Pritchett for the Bucs.
17:34We're going to see what we have here it's against the Bucs.
17:39Based on the signal.
17:44Yeah the league trying in the preseason this.
17:47Player of the kicking team went out of bounds.
17:49Five yard penalty from the previous spot.
17:51Replay fourth down.
17:54Process of auditioning umpires and those that want to become referees.
18:00So John Hussey is here to assist Dwayne Haidt.
18:03So there's.
18:04The player out of bounds is number 24.
18:07They're going to have to re-kick this now.
18:09Oh legal procedure in case you didn't hear what he said.
18:12Yeah it's against Garns.
18:13It's when Garns he's a gunner on the outside he runs out of bounds.
18:16He's not immediately trying to get back in bounds.
18:19And that's probably a rule that he hasn't even.
18:22If you're a young guy you're in college football.
18:24It's not a rule that applies there.
18:26Danny Smith talked about.
18:28And Todd Bowles talked about no penalties in young guys.
18:30And all the things that preseason evaluations are based on.
18:35And we've seen a couple of them go the wrong way already for these young Buccaneers.
18:39And that kick was 62 yards by Riley Dixon.
18:44That's another crack at it.
18:49That's a big penalty.
18:51Yeah because look at Jabal Britchett cross midfield.
18:55And that was not the kind of kick that Dixon wanted after having such a good one previously.
19:01They drove it 60 plus yards for points the last time.
19:05Jets have the ball again.
19:07Tended running back.
19:08Fake to him.
19:10Pass.
19:11He is caught.
19:13And tackled right away.
19:15That was Omar Cooper Jr.
19:18Clubnik delivering the ball on time.
19:27So far the rookie from Clemson who went to Westlake High School in Austin.
19:31That's where Drew Brees went.
19:32Hall of Famer.
19:33Nick Foles.
19:34Sam Ellinger.
19:35Baker Mayfield from Austin.
19:37Lake Travis High School.
19:38Clubnik has.
19:39Some said they remind the way he plays.
19:42Not that he is Baker.
19:43But he's got some of Baker's tendencies.
19:45At least that's what they were saying when he came out of college.
19:48Is Allen is loose.
19:50First down.
19:50Braylon Allen.
19:52We came into this game talking about wanting to win the line of scrimmage.
19:55It's definitely a losing battle right now for those Bucs up front.
19:59Just a little pull gap scheme here.
20:01And just runs everybody out of the middle of the Bucs defense.
20:04And this ball gets all the way up to the safety before the running backs even hit.
20:08And Allen's even hit.
20:09And I'm telling you what.
20:10Allen's a big run.
20:11He's a big boy man.
20:12And those type of tackles are the ones that you have to make.
20:15But the ones that you really do not like having to hit a big running back like that in the
20:19open field.
20:20So if he missed.
20:21He's in the end zone.
20:22In fairness.
20:23You know.
20:23A'shaun Robinson.
20:24No Vita Veya.
20:25Yeah.
20:25No Cansey.
20:26No Nunez Rochas.
20:27The guys we talked about up front on defense against the first unit Jets.
20:31And again another strong first down run.
20:33Getting inside the 30 yard line.
20:38They'll bring up second down at six.
20:43Our down and distance is brought to you by Advent Health.
20:46The exclusive hospital of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
20:50So actually they spot that at the 31 yard line.
20:54In field goal range.
20:56The one guy on the field right now Chris.
20:5922.
20:59Yeah.
21:00Rookie out of Miami.
21:02Keonti Scott.
21:02He has on a tackle a little second a second ago.
21:04He's right now I think.
21:06One of the few that could be a star on this defense.
21:10And Braille it out is in the end zone.
21:13With a Jett touchdown.
21:15Just like that.
21:17Misdirection.
21:20Bucks don't maintain gap integrity.
21:23And again two really quick bursting running plays.
21:28You know just watch this.
21:29You see the offensive line of the Jets move down.
21:34Everybody down to the left.
21:35He just makes a simple cut back on that inside zone.
21:38And there's nobody there to make a tackle.
21:44It's a big preseason for Allen who played in just four games last year before season end during knee surgery.
21:53A 31 yard touchdown run.
21:55The extra point is Jason Sanders.
21:58And he's got it.
22:00It's 10 nothing.
22:02Jets just over two minutes remaining in the opening quarter.
22:06Bucks already up against it.
22:09See how the offensive reserves respond.
22:13With Jalen Daniels the rookie from Kansas expected to take the field in the second half.
22:21And Garrett Green back to receive the kick.
22:25And Green up across the 30.
22:29So Kadarius Callaway over the 28 yard return.
22:32And then of course watch the kick where they were pinned.
22:36And obviously the Jets went down and scored.
22:37They quickly said okay.
22:38And Tom Holtz said we're going to try different people in the return game.
22:41Guys right.
22:42This is that time of year.
22:43Especially when you're not playing any of your young starters.
22:45Cameron.
22:46I'm sorry.
22:48Oh God.
22:49Who am I thinking of?
22:50A returner.
22:50Cameron Johnson.
22:51Is Al.
22:52Is Al.
22:53Again this preseason.
22:54It seems like he's missed a bunch of time in all of his preseasons here in Tampa.
22:57And he's always slated to be the primary returner.
23:00Ted Johnson out as well.
23:01So got to get a look at a bunch of different guys.
23:05Bazelak completes.
23:07And up across the 36 yard line is Dennis Houston.
23:12Western Illinois.
23:13He was at the Cowboys camp last year.
23:17Yeah Dennis Houston's been a guy that's been around here for a while.
23:20He's been up and down off the practice squad at once.
23:24But he knows all the positions.
23:25You'll see a lot of him tonight.
23:26So without a huddle they get to the line.
23:33And dumps it off to Tucker.
23:34Middle of the field.
23:35Sean Tucker will fight and should have enough for the first down at the 44 yard line.
23:40Well it's interesting that Zach Robinson goes hurry up.
23:42And he'll do this a lot.
23:44He did it some in Atlanta.
23:46It passed.
23:47It's the illusion of going fast.
23:50Not necessarily trying to go hurry up.
23:53But just trusting your quarterback to get to the line of scrimmage.
23:56Putting some stress.
23:57You know some mental stress on the defense.
24:01And then just go out and execute a play.
24:03And Connor Bazelak does a great job getting the sticks moving.
24:06And Zach a former quarterback at Oklahoma State.
24:09Former Falcon offensive coordinator last couple of years.
24:13Dumping it up to Tucker again.
24:14And Sean Tucker will get to the 47 yard line.
24:18And this is the type of game.
24:19Maybe next week we'll see a little bit more of the identity.
24:22But this first preseason game we're not going to see much of what this Bucs offense is supposed to look
24:27like.
24:28Which I think and I think everybody will agree Zach Robinson is going to bring his version of Sean McVay's
24:35West Coast offense to Tampa.
24:36He's got a lot of assistance on his team that came with him from Atlanta.
24:40He's a really, really sharp coach.
24:42But what this looks like we still have to.
24:45It's still going to be determined.
24:46And they're still going up the learning curve to be honest with you.
24:49Even in practice yet.
24:50So a lot to be.
24:52A lot to still be shown from this offense.
24:54First quarter winding down.
24:56Sean Tucker fake.
24:57Bazelak keeps.
24:58It gets the first down.
25:00That will bring it into the opening quarter.
25:01And he said, as you said, maybe 10% of the offensive game plan is put in with the reserves.
25:07And not even his backup quarterback.
25:09This is the end of the first quarter.
25:09Really his third string quarterback at the moment.
25:12Rough start so far for the Bucs.
25:13So he's not scared to run and hit people.
25:15Even when he's hurt.
25:16And especially in the red zone.
25:18Remember that signature moment against the Vikings for Baker when his Buccaneer career started.
25:23And these two do have a history going back.
25:25And you heard Jeff Dubrov at the beginning going back in that brief time with the Rams.
25:28Another quick throw right at the 41.
25:31We'll check the spot of the Jets.
25:33Hauled in by Patterson.
25:35And you intrepid Zach Robinson followers.
25:38I know there's a whole bunch of you out there.
25:40He talks a lot about the pistol.
25:42Well, that last snap was the Bucs lined up in the pistol.
25:46Which is quarterback and shotgun running back behind the quarterback.
25:51It's a unique offensive scheme.
25:54And they were really good at it in Atlanta.
25:56You have to be determined, right, Chris?
25:58If that's going to be something that they major here in Tampa.
26:01But it just shows a little bit of the innovation of this coordinator.
26:05Picked up four.
26:06That's a handoff to Houston from the receiver spot.
26:10Just close on it at the 40.
26:12And it'll bring up third down.
26:13I want to congratulate Zach Robinson.
26:15His wife, Mia.
26:17They just had their third baby last Friday.
26:19Emma was born adjoining Maddie and Cooper to their third child.
26:24He said down the hall was Kenneth, or you can call me Kenny Gainwell.
26:28Him and his wife had a baby as well.
26:30So, the Bucs family is growing as we speak.
26:33As Chris Myers always says, football is family.
26:36Football.
26:37And America runs on football.
26:39Especially up here.
26:41Let's see.
26:41And in the south, of course.
26:43All right.
26:43Let's see if the Bucs can pull off a third down conversion.
26:46If they get close, if they go on fourth.
26:48Don't have to worry about that.
26:49What a throw.
26:50Inside the 30 is 10.
26:52Hurst showing those good hands you just talked about.
26:54Well, that's the one thing that you will notice.
26:56Big receiver.
26:57Yes.
26:58Is he replacing Mike Evans?
27:00No.
27:00Is he big and can fill that role?
27:02Absolutely.
27:03These are the type of plays that we're going to see a lot of him from.
27:05He's got that big body.
27:07He's a true ex-receiver in Zach Robinson's mind.
27:10And the slant, very hard to defend when you've got a 6'4", 220-pound receiver that,
27:16oh, by the way, also runs 4'4", and a 40.
27:18Yes, a speed guy.
27:19In fact, Zach Robinson mentioned him up there with, you know,
27:22Tez Johnson as the fastest.
27:25And McMillan said he's, you know, Hurst is right there with him.
27:29There you go.
27:30Look at all this movement.
27:31You see all this offensive adjustment moving back and forth.
27:34Like, if you're not paying attention, you might think that they got lined up wrong.
27:39But.
27:40And they had to use the timeout.
27:42They used the timeout.
27:43Well, no.
27:43I mean, when you're running this type of offense,
27:45you're going to see a lot of adjustments and shifts and whatnot.
27:48And they got that one wrong.
27:49Took a little too much time.
27:51Yeah, but take the timeout until you get it right.
27:55It's fun.
27:56Rondé, you know better than anyone what this community has from the Buccaneers.
27:59And by the way, when we get back to Tampa, I'll take you to Mike Guy.
28:02We'll get you fitted for one of these jackets.
28:04How's that?
28:05Sean Tucker, you'd wear that well.
28:07Tucker carries.
28:09Yeah, the Glazer, you know, Joel, Brian, Ed, Darcy, the Glazer family,
28:12they do so much in and around the community.
28:15It was nice to get that out, to tell people about it,
28:17for people to contribute to help when they can.
28:19Absolutely.
28:19It was so important in the wake of Helene and Milton in 2024.
28:23These type of funds, yes, they do a lot with the Children's Museum,
28:27and obviously the impact that this team, this franchise,
28:31just has in the community just because they've owned it for so long.
28:35But going above and beyond,
28:36the million-dollar investments into some critical resources,
28:39those type of things speak volumes about this team.
28:42Paige Lack, man, incomplete.
28:44This time, Hurst could not hang on.
28:48While we're talking about the Bucs and those that you don't see out on the field
28:52playing in the Brian Ford, Chief Operating Officer,
28:56this is his, what, 20th year with the Bucs, a native of Florida,
29:00and his 37-year anniversary every August with wife Judy.
29:03Congratulations to them.
29:04It was great seeing him earlier, excited about the season and fans.
29:07He pays us well to say that every year.
29:09So, Brian Ford, thank you for everything we do.
29:12We do it for his wife and family as well.
29:16His son is actually up here in New York City.
29:19And you had a good time up here hanging with family.
29:22Seeing brother Tiki.
29:26Bazelak third and eight.
29:27And open!
29:29Down to the six-yard line.
29:30It'll be first and goal for the Buccaneers.
29:33Dennis Houston hauls that in.
29:35Great job by Bazelak here.
29:36And these are the things that impressed me about him last season as well.
29:40Just understanding where this ball needs to go
29:42and the urgency to get this out.
29:44This is a free runner coming right down his face right here.
29:48And he's about to get hit.
29:50And, yes, it's a defensive back and he pulls up on him.
29:52But the decisiveness to put that ball out in front of his receiver
29:57and get that first down down inside the red zone.
29:59Great throw by Bazelak.
30:00Yeah, Bazelak, three years at Missouri,
30:02but six seasons of college football.
30:06And second year after practice squad last year,
30:09Sean Tucker gets straight ahead into a crowd to around the five-yard line.
30:17It's been all Sean Tucker available in the run game
30:20other than handing off to a receiver.
30:22Zach Robinson working without those that would be the first, you know,
30:26the starters that you'll see a lot.
30:27Yeah, he said you'll see Bucky Irving and Kenny Gainwell quite a bit in the game together.
30:33Both capable, receiving, doing some of the things you talked about
30:36with this offense called the offensive line when the main unit is out there.
30:40The starters are more versatile in the league.
30:43Bazelak throws.
30:43The catch, but a good tackle to keep Patterson from getting close to the goal on Jordan Martin.
30:51One of those throws that Bazelak has right here
30:53that, like, he could have taken the tougher throw.
30:56Yes, you want to get that out of your hands
30:58because you feel like that he's open at this point,
31:01but if he just holds on one second right there,
31:04he has to know that that completion is not going to get him to the end zone.
31:07He had a receiver actually sit in the back corner
31:09for you to just take in a second, process it a little bit more,
31:13slowed it down in his head.
31:14It could have been a touchdown.
31:15But nonetheless, we're sitting here with a third and five on the five-yard line
31:18to see if we can convert here for our first score of the game.
31:21Yeah, best scoring chance for the Bucs trailing 10 to nothing.
31:26And Bazelak fires for the end zone.
31:29Pulled out of the hands of Hurst.
31:33It looked like he had a touchdown catch,
31:36but Maury Bamba, the rookie from BYU, yanked it away.
31:41Yeah, this looked like a sure touchdown.
31:43And, yes, this ball is just a little bit behind Ted Hurst,
31:46so it gives the defender a chance to come back in there.
31:49He's lucky it's not an interception.
31:50That was really well played by Bamba in the secondary.
31:56Chase McLaughlin to try a 23-yard field goal.
32:06The kick is good.
32:07Well, he's money, reliable.
32:10And the Bucs are on the board.
32:12Under 10 minutes to go before halftime.
32:19A moment ago of 23 yards, it was a 14-play, 63-yard drive.
32:27Took up seven minutes and had a chance there.
32:29Down to the five on third and goal before settling for the field goal.
32:33It'll be Pritchett, who's been busy, and he's going to doubt it.
32:37As the Buccaneer defense will take on continued offensive attack.
32:43But maybe looking to be the starting nickelback this year in this Bucs defense.
32:47Bailey Zappi over Patriot has come into the game, completes to Chalani Woods.
32:55A second-year player from Western Kentucky.
32:57He's a Hilltopper like our director.
33:00I did want to mention, by the way.
33:02And the last, real quick, there was another guy on that list,
33:06if you guys are looking at it, yeah, of the rookies.
33:09And we had David Walker down here at the bottom right here.
33:13Not really a rookie, but he did miss all of his rookie season last year
33:18with the knee injury.
33:19And Jason Light, general manager of the Bucs, has commented many times,
33:22it feels like we've got a free draft pick with him.
33:24And he was out on the field earlier.
33:26I was going to showcase him.
33:27He's not playing in the game right now.
33:29His time is done.
33:30But if you just watched camp this year, all you know, actually, I'm lying.
33:35He is on the field.
33:36He's right there.
33:36Good.
33:37If you watch camp, he has been the, by far,
33:39breakaway star of the Bucs preseason camp so far.
33:43Now it needs to translate into games.
33:44The guy was two-time Defensive Player of the Year in his conference.
33:48So productive in college.
33:49Yes, it was a small school.
33:51But it seems to be translating to the Bucs in the preseason so far.
33:56I'm really looking forward to see his development here
33:58over the next couple of games.
34:15Oh, so many good things to show you on this defensive touchdown by the Buccaneers.
34:23It starts up front, though.
34:25Zappies has to force this ball quickly because of the aforementioned David Walker.
34:30Look at his pressure right off the edge.
34:33And he has to put this ball out a little early.
34:35Garns has been showcasing this ability all preseason in practice.
34:40And it's nice to see that it paid off in a game here.
34:43Bucs coaches and scouts have been raving about number 24.
34:47He kept telling me yesterday when I was out with these guys,
34:50watch 24 in this game,
34:51and he comes out and produces a huge play for this Bucs defense.
34:55Yeah, and he wasn't on the list because he wasn't drafted.
34:57He was a free agent signing.
35:00The rookie from Arizona.
35:02A pick six.
35:0440-plus yards.
35:06Make it 47 yards.
35:08And all of a sudden,
35:10it's a tie game.
35:11Bucs and Jets.
35:13This opportunity.
35:14That's basically all the preseason is, right?
35:16You're on an audition for a spot on a roster.
35:19And he's done a lot to help his cause here tonight.
35:23And as you said,
35:24they're going to need him giving him some of the injuries
35:26and some doubts just in reshaping the secondary,
35:29moving on for veteran Jamal Dean.
35:31And the injury to Benjamin Morrison.
35:33Well, let's talk about that.
35:34The injury concerns on defense.
35:36Zion McCollum and Jacob Parrish are your presumptive starters
35:39with Benjamin Morrison that haven't been hurt for most of the camp.
35:43You look at the depth,
35:44you don't have really much of anything.
35:46Demaryon Williams,
35:47Roman Pardee,
35:48who just came back this week.
35:50Xavier Williams is a rookie.
35:52There's not a lot of players on this roster that can fill roles.
35:56But that's what this preseason's for.
35:58And good job for Garns taking advantage of his op.
36:01Good job for the Bucs bringing him in.
36:02He led Arizona to the Wildcats.
36:04He led college football in passing defensive efficiency last year.
36:08A transfer from West Virginia and showing some of those skills there
36:13and then returning as Zappi returns to throw a sack back at the 25-yard line.
36:20Hesitated for a moment,
36:21and the pocket crumbled as Elijah Roberts got to him.
36:28Elijah Roberts has been here a little bit.
36:30He's right over the left guard there.
36:32Great putt rush moves.
36:33You talk about winning with speed and power.
36:35He can both right there push the offensive guard back.
36:39Didn't use his hands to win in space
36:41and gets his first sack of this preseason.
36:45Now, he played some meaningful snaps last year on defense.
36:48It's not like he's new to his expectations here.
36:51I actually want to watch this guy develop over the course of his second year.
36:55Had a couple of sacks.
36:56Zappi is on the move again.
36:57A high throw and another interception off the deflection.
37:01The Bucs' Rashawn Wisdom.
37:06Plopnik, the rookie from Clemson, went five out of seven.
37:09Had a 10-0 lead for the Jets.
37:11Zappi has come in, and the Bucs have two takeaways here in the second quarter.
37:15Back-to-back takeaways.
37:16These are the ones that you love.
37:19The tips, overthrows, whatever it takes.
37:22I had 10 interceptions one year, Chris.
37:23You know how many of them were tips?
37:24Like five of them.
37:26It just doesn't matter.
37:27Take the ball away.
37:28That's what your goal should be as a defense.
37:32And I know, I've been talking to some of these young defensive backs,
37:36and I think your goal is to take the ball away.
37:38But score, take the ball away mentality is the reason how you win football games in the NFL.
37:44Arian Smith, it went off his hands.
37:47But you still got to make the catch, right?
37:48Deflection or not.
37:50It's at the 30.
37:53Josh Williams has entered, and Josh Williams picks up nine.
37:59And there's a flag back at the 39.
38:04Holding.
38:06Offense.
38:06Number 72.
38:08Ten-yard penalty.
38:09First down.
38:19Luke Haggard, looks like he was the one who was called for the penalty to hold.
38:38He's going to wipe out a big game.
38:40It's first of 20.
38:45Sets up Dean Patterson, who gets down to the 40, down in distance.
38:50Brought to you by Advent Health Exclusive Hospital.
38:54The Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
38:56I love that play call on second and, or first and long.
38:58You get 20 yards to gain.
39:00And your defense inherently takes their foot off the gas a little bit,
39:04thinking that the offense is going to go and try to get some of that.
39:07Just pick up and throw a screen.
39:09Let the wide receiver find his little shoot.
39:13The defense is clearly playing some zone coverage.
39:16You get eight yards of it back.
39:17This feels like a much more manageable third, third, second, and 13 now.
39:20Got three receivers towards the top of the screen.
39:25Second down, 13.
39:27They'll dump it off to Josh Williams.
39:29And out of bounds, but that's okay.
39:32Lost the football out of bounds.
39:34John Tucker carried the load through the opening quarter and into the second quarter.
39:40Now, Josh Williams, second-year player.
39:42Another one of those free agent signees that Zampa likes from LSU.
39:45He played three games as a rookie, but we had four carries midseason when Bucky Irving was out.
39:52Yeah, it's pretty funny.
39:54I was down on the field with James Petroco sitting next to you,
39:57and we were looking at the Bucs running back.
39:58They all look the same.
40:00They're all about 5'9", 5'10 and a half.
40:04The, you know, big, wide, lower bodies, explosive power with all of them, Bucky, Gainwell, Sean Tucker, Josh Williams.
40:12They all have the same kind of characteristics.
40:13It's pretty interesting to see a running back room all built with the same type of players.
40:17In traffic and incomplete.
40:19It'll be fourth down.
40:21Garrett Green.
40:23The target missed opportunity there.
40:26The punting unit comes out.
40:29Yeah, Josh Williams, I saw him in the lobby of the hotel, said hi.
40:32His dad, Jermaine Williams, over NFL running back, who had signed with the Bucs initially,
40:36but later went on to play with the Raiders, among other teams, was there.
40:40Very proud, talking about opportunities he'd have in this game.
40:44We'll see a lot of him in the second half.
40:45And, as you say, like the other backs, can catch and run and just needs an opportunity, more playing time.
40:51There's a walk-on at LSU.
40:55Riley Dixon standing at the 49 at midfield, kicking it.
41:00See if the special teams can pin the Jets.
41:04Almost.
41:05Well, they hacked the position there, but he couldn't quite bring it down.
41:09The kick was right on there as Williams, Marion Williams, couldn't doubt it.
41:15Whether it's DIY day, huh?
41:21Yard day.
41:24Game day.
41:29Yeah, it's game day.
41:33Birthday.
41:34Advent Health keeps you ready for every day.
41:38And for everything that makes you feel whole.
41:41Exclusive hospital of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
41:46You know, it goes a 39-yard punt, 544 before halftime.
41:51You know, Randy, we're talking about some of the draft picks before Aiden Garnes ran back the interception for the
41:58touchdown.
41:58I asked Todd Bowles, I realize it's the first preseason game.
42:01We have quite a ways to go.
42:03I know, but I said it would be surprising, right, if three rookies, maybe four, were starters when the regular
42:09season opens.
42:12As Wongu carries for the Jetson, goes out of bounds.
42:15And, I mean, he wouldn't commit to it, but he also said he wouldn't be surprised.
42:19I mean, you probably have at least two on defense, maybe three there.
42:22Todd might be playing coy with us, but let's be honest.
42:25So I have you here.
42:26Number three is playing and starting.
42:28You're talking about Reuben Bain Jr., your top pick?
42:30I believe Josiah Trotter is always going to, was always brought in here to take over the inside linebacking spot.
42:39He's a different type of player than we've had at inside linebacker for a lot, a lot of years.
42:44And the other one's going to be County Scott, who I just keep mentioning, maybe as the nickelback.
42:48So those are three right there.
42:53And it looked like Wongu had some trouble there.
42:57Yeah, that operation was not going well.
43:00Again, it was Elijah Roberts who comes in and makes a great play right over the center, unblocked and easy
43:06to make that type of play.
43:08I, again, I'm going to go back to what I was saying about Elijah Roberts.
43:11I'm very interested in this player.
43:13Second year, got a lot of snaps last year when Kalijah Kansi was injured early in the year.
43:19And he was, well, not statistically hugely productive.
43:23He did some really good things.
43:25And he's starting off his preseason 2026 in a very similar fashion.
43:29Yeah, a loss of four.
43:30Now third down and nine.
43:32Zaffi is going deep.
43:35And overthrows everybody by five or six yards.
43:40Pass intended for Malik McClain.
43:44Coverage was good.
43:45Pressure was good against Damarian Williams was the one back.
43:47I did want to mention you were talking about David Walker before and how good he's been early.
43:52I mean, I know it was just practice, but the first four practices, he had four sacks already.
43:56I think it was like eight of eight.
43:58And at Central Arkansas, you know, where he went to college, he had 31 career sacks.
44:02So, good point that he's healthy and had a chance to observe.
44:07It's a rookie, but he's got some experience at least in observing as Garrett Green will field this punt right
44:15at the 31-yard line.
44:17I want to thank all the Bucs fans and those NFL fans joining us on News Channel 8.
44:22We've got coverage of the Bucs, our live broadcast.
44:24Rondie Barber, Chris Bars, our entire crew from Tampa, Orlando, West Palm, Fort Myers, Gainesville, Panama City, Pensacola, Mobile, wherever
44:34you're watching.
44:35Appreciate you tuning in for Buccaneer football, a home game against the Chiefs next Saturday night.
44:40And then on the road the following Friday night against Jacksonville and the Sunshine State.
44:45They'll wrap up the preseason before opening the regular season on the road at Cincinnati.
44:51Bayslac has gone the entire way and picked it up lately.
44:54Josh Williams has taken over and running back after Sean Tucker, he jumped in the last series and carried the
45:00ball in the first portion of the game.
45:05Bayslac, pressure avoids it and could not dump that off to Josh Williams.
45:12A little more interesting conversations we're going to have on offenses about the offensive line.
45:21And there's two guys in there right now.
45:23We brought Justin School back this offseason.
45:26And Ben Chukluma, who's playing right offensive tackle right now.
45:30Go into a season, obviously we think the Bucs have a really good starting offensive line.
45:34But it's important to have a really good swing tackle.
45:37And one of these two guys, number 70 or number 77, both in the game right now, are going to
45:42be one of that guys.
45:43So keep an eye on those two press in this game.
45:46A second look at a high throw.
45:48Coverage was pretty good on Garrett Green.
45:51They're working the ball to him, but it hasn't been the connection.
45:53Now third down to ten.
45:55Well, here's the issue with the Bucs in receiver.
45:57We mentioned this earlier.
46:00No Jalen McMillan, obviously Chris Godwin and Emeka Bucca are out.
46:04Ted Johnson also out.
46:05Cameron Johnson out.
46:07All right.
46:07You've got four healthy receivers.
46:09Ted Hurst, the third.
46:11Garrett Green, Dennis Houston, and Eric Rivers, who we haven't seen yet.
46:14Those are the only receivers out here.
46:16And so they're playing special teams, trying to make an impression with Danny Smith,
46:20also trying to get some work on offense.
46:22And we're going to see how good they can manage their time here.
46:27Speaking of deflections, an attempt that was caught by Bauer Sharp,
46:32the rookie tight end from LSU, after Green couldn't hold on.
46:35It was probably a throw that shouldn't have even been made under the circumstances.
46:39Couldn't play by that defensive back, 33 there.
46:42Now, I don't know that that's how Bauer Sharp was thinking his first NFL reception was going to be,
46:47but nonetheless, he has won for whatever that was, negative yardage.
46:51But we'll talk a lot about him as this game goes on,
46:54because I know they're very interested in the tight end room.
46:57Cade Otten is what he is.
46:58And we all know that Payne Durham, also very good blocking,
47:03but they're looking for some depth pieces there and some production in this game.
47:07It definitely may help his cause.
47:09Richard knocked out of the 25-yard line.
47:11Yeah, they have six tight ends.
47:14Cade Otten, Coquette, your guys.
47:16And then what happens after that?
47:18Our Sharp rookie from LSU could be the third guy.
47:22You know, Payne Durham, you talk about him being the blocker and Culp, the downfield speed guy,
47:26but they'll have to sort that out.
47:32Jets deferred.
47:33So the Bucs had the ball to start the game.
47:35Jets will get it to start the second half.
47:40And again, Geno Smith is hoping to play.
47:44A little bit of an ankle, not serious, so we're told.
47:46So he has not played in this game.
47:52It was Preece Hall early.
47:53Braylon Allen.
47:55We've seen Kenny Wongu, and that pass is good enough for a first down to Pritchett,
47:59who's been a punt returner much of this game.
48:06And that will move the chains.
48:08Bucs did lose a timeout when they lost an early challenge.
48:17Yeah, with Alex Anzalone, he's probably your green dot guy.
48:21I would think so.
48:22Maybe stepping in right with Levante going on, and then maybe Trotter takes that over at some point.
48:25We can return to that conversation.
48:27Yes, we still have Sarrasier-Denis on the roster as well,
48:29who started alongside Levante David last year.
48:32But I do believe that position is going to go to Josiah Trotter.
48:36He's a hammer looking for a nail, man.
48:38He's a different type of player at the position than we've had here in Tampa.
48:42And Todd even commented that he's got potential to be, like,
48:46one of the better players on defense even in his rookie season.
48:48So I look forward to seeing him in the rest of the preseason.
48:51We're going to interview him or at least talk to him in the second half of the game
48:55from down on the field.
48:55Yeah, Todd Bowles said he's been the best football player in camp.
48:59Referring to Josiah Trotter.
49:01We're also, Rodney and I, in our headset interview,
49:03we'll be talking to Chris Godwin, the healthy veteran receiver who's catching a break
49:08and talk about that position.
49:10Although right now, a lot of the injuries as Rodney just went through,
49:13but feel very comfortable.
49:15We're there at timeouts.
49:15Bucs have just one remaining.
49:20It's Kenny Wongu, six-year veteran who has spelled after Breece Hall got much of the early action.
49:29He's just short here.
49:30And it's going to be third down.
49:34Let's see how they want to play this is Aaron Glenn.
49:37Oh, Aaron Glenn got himself two new coordinators, one of them being himself.
49:42It's a defensive coordinator.
49:43The other one is Frank Reich, is the offensive coordinator.
49:47Yeah, they were once teammates way back in the day, like the old Jets reunited.
49:52I like it when a guy like Todd Bowles, those are the guys they should call the defense.
49:55Well, that's their specialty, even if they're a head coach.
49:57Straight ahead, first down.
49:59And the Jets will keep the clock running if they want, since they can control this thing.
50:10Now, they're not in too much of a hurry.
50:12I mean, they might be setting themselves up to try to take a long field goal,
50:14and there's time left on the clock type of thing.
50:16You said there's a kicking competition.
50:18You know, maybe they want to get a look at that, but we still need to get some yardage here.
50:23Fifty-five seconds left on the clock.
50:25Two free timeouts, though.
50:27Zappi dumps it off to Wongu, who stays in bounds.
50:31Looked like he was trying to get out of bounds, but that's all right.
50:34They've got timeouts if they want to use them, but it's going to be a second down.
50:38They're right now at the 46 of the Bucs.
50:41Second down, they need about six.
50:46Zappi with time and open inside the 30.
50:51Infield goal range, Amar Cooper, Jr., and now he's inside the 20,
50:56and the Jets will use a timeout.
50:58They might be thinking more than just three at this point.
51:02Timeout.
51:02New York, their first timeout of the half.
51:06One of the three first-round draft picks of the Jets.
51:10Wide open in that little dig route over the top of the defense,
51:14and you can clearly see some miscommunication in the Bucs' secondary.
51:18Playing two high safeties and nobody falling deep underneath that hook route.
51:23Big play for this Jets offense to get them down inside the 20.
51:26Yeah, Cooper picked up 26 yards from Indiana.
51:31You mentioned, you know, you remember the toe-tap touchdown against Penn State
51:35that kept that undefeated season.
51:38And at Penn State, the new head coach, Matt Campbell, taking over there.
51:44Great expectations there, but what a star moment for him in that program.
51:48Yeah, and hopes to start for the Jets to the 20-yard latch where they spot it.
52:01Zappi, plenty of time, deep, coming back for the ball,
52:05and here comes a flag and hung in the air.
52:08And Cooper, looks like the ball might have been touched, deflected maybe.
52:13We'll see, but Cooper was the target.
52:16That's what Todd Bowles is saying.
52:17We got our hands on that.
52:18There is no foul on the play for defensive pass interference.
52:21The ball was tipped at the line of scrimmage.
52:23Second down.
52:25You mentioned James Petralka, who's our spotter.
52:27He spotted it before the officials did.
52:29Yeah.
52:30Right there.
52:31Yes.
52:31I didn't see it.
52:32It was Jason Jones.
52:33Yeah, Jason Jones.
52:34Now, I don't know that DeMarion Williams knew that that ball was tipped.
52:37No.
52:38Yeah, because if that wasn't tipped, that was pass interference.
52:40DeMarion Williams having struggled a little bit this afternoon.
52:44He's playing both outside and the nickel corner here.
52:46You see him right now in the slot, number 28 right there,
52:50with Garns on the outside playing left corner.
52:53Blitz is on.
52:54Zappi gets rid of it.
52:56Oh, but a big defensive play for the Bucs to shove him back.
52:59And as the clock runs,
53:03Muhammad Kamara
53:06came up with the sack.
53:07The Jets are going to use a timeout.
53:09We're showing nine seconds on the clock.
53:11We'll see how quickly.
53:12But that's third and 19.
53:14And the Jets want to make sure that they try to stay in field goal range at this point.
53:19This is the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, by the way, Chris.
53:22I don't know if you know that,
53:22but great job reading out this little screen pass to the running back.
53:27And there's a lot of depth on the edge here.
53:31He's definitely providing one of them.
53:32I want to correct it.
53:34It's not a sack.
53:35It is a loss of nine.
53:36But it was a completion.
53:37And then he brought him back, obviously, behind the line of scrimmage.
53:41But it was a big – we've seen some big defensive plays, obviously,
53:46to allow the Bucs to be in a tie.
53:47And they were hoping for a little more here.
53:51Timeout.
53:52Tampa will use – Tampa Bay will use its last.
53:55Tampa Bay.
53:56Their third final of the half.
53:56Right now you're looking at about a 47-yard field goal in that range.
54:0146.
54:01We'll see where the spot would be if the Jets get nothing.
54:05They still have a timeout.
54:07Can try to get a little closer.
54:09Maybe throw – they want to try a Hail Mary.
54:11Work on that.
54:12We'll see.
54:18How about his team?
54:19He's definitely looking to do something that hasn't been done in Jets in a long, long time.
54:27And it's turned them into a winner.
54:29Three and four last year.
54:30They dramatically reworked their roster.
54:32They go out and get Geno Smith.
54:34Bring in Frank Reich, like we said.
54:36Picked up some really big free agents on defense.
54:38Mike Mika Fitzpatrick, Mario Davis, comes back.
54:41And in those three draft picks that we've talked about so much.
54:44So this is a team that's, like, trying to win now.
54:47This is not like a rebuild, even though it might feel like that for a lot of Jets fans.
54:51Zappy on third and 19 to get yardage.
54:53And a quick play inside the – or right up to 20.
54:57They're going to use that last time.
54:58But, yeah, for the Jets, I know they cringe.
55:00But they've missed the playoffs the last 15 consecutive season.
55:04That's the longest streak in North American professional sports.
55:07He was the Sabres.
55:09They were tied, at least, but they made the postseason.
55:12So the Jets have that hanging over their head.
55:14And in his second year, Glenn and this new –
55:16The Jetsurança is very important.
55:16I think the Jets are pretty much at least willing to do.
