00:06And I believe that Jeff had never gotten the call to the principal's office.

00:12And I ended up in the principal's office for two period classes discussing the pep rally that was coming up.

00:22She brought lunch.

00:31Well, it was a different situation for the teachers at Ross Valley School District in California where a principal actually
00:39called all 100 teachers to an assembly recently.
00:43So it's the beginning of the school year and the teachers didn't know what to expect and on their way
00:50in, each was handed an envelope.
00:53They were instructed not to open it.
00:55Now, teachers are rule makers and they're rule followers.
00:59Yes, they are.
00:59So they were obedient in sitting there nicely without opening their envelopes, but also uncomfortably because they felt like they
01:09had just been called into the principal's office, right?
01:12Mm-hmm.
01:12Well, it turns out that while they're sitting there in this assembly, one of the local residents named Maya stands
01:18up and addresses the audience.
01:21And she's talking about how she has been a longtime resident of this town and she appreciates all that the
01:27teachers do.
01:29So she instructed them to open their envelopes, and inside each was a personal check for just over $9,000.
01:39Um, what?
01:40In each envelope, every single teacher got more than $9,000.
01:47Maya made this donation after finding out last year that the funding in the district where they live is in
01:53the bottom 4% statewide.
01:56And so teachers are the lowest paid in the county and she wouldn't have it.
02:00So she made a $1,000,000 donation specifically to the teachers in that school.
02:06I like going between chills and tears.
02:10Yeah.
02:10Because, I mean, really think about it.
02:12If this is one of the lowest paid areas for teachers, $9,000 could very well be like a fifth
02:18of their take home, a fourth of their take home.
02:20Yeah.
02:20You know what I mean?
02:21I mean, this is massive amounts of money.
02:24I mean, I thought you were going to say $900 or $90 to help with back-to-school supplies.
02:30Yeah, exactly.
02:31But that's $900,000.

02:33Yeah.
02:33Wow.
02:34A million dollars of a donation.
02:35And it's from somebody in the community, which I think is so special because they recognize, and I'm guessing if
02:41she's a longtime resident, I don't want to surmise, but, like, probably doesn't have kids in school anymore, right?
02:47If you're a long time, maybe 20, 30, 40 years in that community, and she still wants to get back
02:52to the teachers educating the youth.
02:54Right.
02:54What?
02:54And she made a point, like, once this, you know, got some ground in the area and it was covered
02:59by news outlets and stuff, she was like, teachers can accept a personal donation from a citizen.
03:06So, if you can do it, help them.
03:09Yeah.
03:09That's something I never realized either.
03:12Is that, I mean, obviously, it makes sense.
03:14I know that, like, nurses, because I tried to give some gifts to the delivery nurses.
03:19Right, right.
03:19It's, like, a little sketchy here and there.

03:21You got to be careful on what you do.
