00:00And I'll ask you flat out about Arch Manning, Coach.
00:02I mean, a lot of pressure on the kid a year ago.
00:05He goes up against the Sean Desai defense last year.
00:09And, you know, he goes in there and actually gets an opportunity to go against a pretty good defense.
00:14And you tell me.
00:16Help me out here.
00:17What do you make of Arch Manning?
00:20Well, you're right.
00:21The last name of Manning.
00:23I mean, this poor guy has had pressure on him since he was in junior high school, probably, right?
00:26And now he goes, he went to the University of Texas.
00:29That's one of the better programs in the country.
00:32And, you know, last year, as you meant, he struggled a little bit early.
00:36But now, I think at the end of the year, last year, he kind of found his sea legs.
00:40And, you know, going to spring ball.
00:42I went to spring ball about two weeks ago and watched the team practice.
00:47They have some talented players on both sides of the ball.
00:51And, you know, I think when you look at their schedule, they play Ohio State at home.
00:55They have to go to Tennessee.
00:56So, their first four games, they got two big-time programs with Ohio State at home and Tennessee on the
01:02road.
01:03And they have two other teams that are playing.
01:04I can't remember the names.
01:06But I think if they can go 4-0, them first four, they got a chance.
01:14Because Arch is getting – I mean, he's a better quarterback than he was last year.
01:18He reminds me a lot of his grandpa, right, who I played against with the Saints.
01:25He's athletic like that.
01:26He can run.
01:27I mean, he's a big athletic guy.
01:29I mean, he can run.
01:30He can throw.
01:30But I think now he's really – he feels comfortable in his offense, and they've got a lot of good
01:36players.
01:37Coach, building a championship football team today, and I've had this conversation with Mario Cristobal.
01:43How do you build the internal – how do you build a culture inside there when you've got all these
01:50kids transferring from different programs, and all of a sudden, within a matter of six months, you've got to try
01:55to build something.
01:57And understanding – it's blind faith, Coach, with coaches trying to tell kids, hey, look, we want to get you
02:02to this point.
02:03We believe that you guys can do this.
02:05How do you sell that blind faith to guys who are not in your program over two years, three years,
02:09like it used to be?
02:11Well, I think this – and you know this, you're a former player.
02:14I think when you have a relationship with a coach, that helps.
02:17And I think your assistant coach have to be more aware of that in today's world than they were, you
02:23know, 10, 15 years ago when a kid went to school and basically he had to sit out if he's
02:26going somewhere else.
02:27Now these guys, they have – if you go in the players' parking lot, they've got better cars than the
02:31coaches.
02:32So, you know, and they know that if I'm a really good player, somebody else will come get me if
02:37I want to go.
02:38So I think relationships – and most of these kids, as you know, want to go to the league.
02:43Can you help them get – you know, I always say, can you help them get to the league?
02:46You can't give them talent, but you give them knowledge.
02:49I always say, you know, when you're a player, you're an information gatherer.
02:54And coaches are sources of information.
02:57They give it to the players to make them better.
03:00And so that has to be the relationship between player and coach.
