The Washington Commanders have dealt with a ton of issues since the start of training camp and preseason. One key issue has been all the injuries they’ve had to deal with. Should the Commanders start Jayden Daniels tonight or is the risk not worth the reward?

00:00Don't forget 6P kickoff tonight.
00:026P.
00:03Man, I got to lock in.
00:05Not 7P.
00:06I mean, I'm almost never home at 6PM.
00:09Yeah.
00:10The amount of times I'm home at 6PM, maybe once a week.
00:13I'm often home at 6PM.
00:15I'm usually home.
00:16I got a fantasy draft at 5.
00:18So I'm definitely going to be home.
00:19Hopefully I'm either done dinner by 6PM or finishing up dinner by 6 o'clock.
00:26Yeah, even on a Friday, yeah.
00:27Even on a Friday.
00:28Absolutely.
00:29So Cakes, the Washington Commanders wrap training camp in the preseason tonight
00:35against the Ravens, as JP mentioned, 6PM at M&T Bank Stadium.
00:40So training camp is officially, it's labeled training camp, but it's over after tonight.
00:44Well, they kind of labeled it over a few days ago as far as the reporters go.
00:48The game, of course, will be broadcast locally on WUSA 9.
00:53Our friends over there at the NFL Network.
00:55Back in town.
00:56The Wednesday joint practice, that was the primary evaluation for most of the starters.
01:03Tonight, expected to be mostly for bubble players and depth pieces before Sunday's 6PM roster cut deadline.
01:14Of course, injuries are still a major factor with this team.
01:19You got Allegretti.
01:21You know, we've been talking about him the last few weeks.
01:24Mariota, walking around with a big old brace.
01:27Rashad White's got a hamstring.
01:30Bill's got a lower body injury.
01:32What'd you say that was?
01:32A groin.
01:34A groin.
01:34Soft tissue.
01:36Jeremy McNichols got a quad.
01:38Jerome Ford.
01:39I mean, the running back room is banged up.
01:42It is.
01:43You're going to see a lot of Catron Allen tonight.
01:45Catron Allen.
01:45I know John Kimes said that...
01:47And Craig Reynolds.
01:48Robert Henry Jr.
01:50You know, at one point was maybe working himself into a bubble spot.
01:53But the way he played in that second preseason game, there's very limited options for these guys.
01:59Might have him on the outside looking in.
02:02Yeah, you mentioned Mick Reynolds, who's a veteran, who could step in right away.
02:07Pass rushers are banged up.
02:09Adafi Owe, he's still nursing the calf.
02:12Chason's nursing a knee.
02:15Ron Payne's got a lower body issue.
02:17Trey Amos in the secondary's got the ankle sprain.
02:20I mean, it's just nutty, all of the injuries.
02:24Dietrich Wise is still on the pup list.
02:27Sam Cosby.
02:28Now, that's just an illness.
02:29But he's not going to play tonight.
02:31They're not going to expose him.
02:32John Bates got a hamstring.
02:34Jordan McGee, a shoulder.
02:36Tim Settle, calf.
02:38Drake Jackson, I think they've already put him on IR.
02:42Along with Malik Spencer to safety.
02:45So, just so many guys banged up.
02:48Good opportunity for some guys to make the roster here, make the practice squad.
02:53Most of those guys, though, are expected to be ready for week one.
02:57Most of them, yeah, I think so.
02:59I'm concerned about the Mariota thing, just as far as the backup.
03:03I mean, if he's wearing a big old brace like that, are they going to just take it off and
03:05activate it?
03:05I'm not sure Trey Amos will be ready for week one.
03:07Amos is a question mark for sure.
03:10I'm almost forgetting he's on the team.
03:11Amos and Owe have not gotten a lot of work in camp.
03:15Like, that's pretty concerning.
03:16Now, Owe started off really slow last year, right?
03:20Valdez, before the Ravens traded him?
03:23Yeah, yes.
03:25People don't know if it's Owe or the system that he was in with Zach Orr.
03:29I want to say he didn't have a sack with the Ravens.
03:31He did not.
03:33Yeah.
03:35So, as far as the roster battles, obviously, it's center.
03:39It's going to be something to keep an eye on.
03:41I mean, I think they'll keep Goulbin and maybe Good Jones will ultimately be another practice
03:46squad guy.
03:47Guy be on their 70.
03:48It'd be hard for me to imagine Good Jones on their 53, especially after other teams make
03:53cuts.
03:53Maybe he makes the initial, then they find a new guy, and they put him on the 70, the
03:59practice squad.
03:59Who knows?
04:00Wide receiver, of course.
04:02Diggs, McLaurin, the locks.
04:03Antonio Williams is just, you know, impressing everyone.
04:07I think he's really...
04:09I feel like he might be showing up that number three guy, that spot.
04:13It's just a total natural route runner.
04:15Then, of course, you've got Trelon.
04:17You've got Diami.
04:19Some people have speculated, if they could get anything for Luke, that this might be
04:23the time to do it.
04:24Jalen Lane, of course, their punt returner, primarily.
04:27And then, who knows what's going to happen with Van Jefferson and some of these other
04:31guys.
04:31Of course, Jaden Bradley, right?
04:34That's his name.
04:34The kid from...
04:35Jaden Bradley, right?
04:35From DeMatha.
04:36DeMatha, who made what some thought was the catch of preseason.
04:40Great catch.
04:40He's probably going to be on the outside looking in, but they'll have room for him, I would
04:44expect, on the practice squad.
04:46The seventh-round quarterback, Ethan Kalikamanis, has, by all accounts, outplayed Sam Hartman.
04:53So, he's the favorite to stick as the developmental third quarterback.
04:58Juan Martin at safety.
04:59You know, I had some questions about him heading into camp, but he's really had a great camp.
05:04Two picks.
05:04A couple interceptions in preseason games.
05:06He's been flashing in practices.
05:08Of course, the kicker situation's already resolved.
05:11For now, rookie Drew Stevens has won the job.
05:14Bob, Jake Moody, was released.
05:16I don't think anybody picked him up yet, right?
05:19I think he's floating out there.
05:20You're going to have to wait until guys start missing kicks, and then he'll be in.
05:22I'm sure he'll be trying out, and somebody eventually give him another shot.
05:27Again, starters are largely going to be sitting tonight.
05:31Jaden got his heaviest preseason work in that joint practice.
05:34Not expected to play tonight.
05:36But you did see some starters play last night.
05:38And back to the kicker situation, I'm curious, EB, because you felt like maybe they didn't
05:44want to trot out Stevens for some sort of a confidence deal because he didn't want him
05:47missing a kick in the preseason.
05:49What does he need to prove?
05:51Everybody knows he's got a strong leg.
05:53Well, I believe...
05:55Set him up for good kicks.
05:56Get him going.
05:57Double check.
05:57I believe the Niners kicker had six field goals last night.
06:03Oh, man, that's a fantasy bonanza.
06:06I'm not saying don't let Drew Stevens kick.
06:08Eddie Pinero, six for six with the long of 59.
06:12Yeah, that's great.
06:13Tasty.
06:13Here's what I'm saying in a perfect world.
06:14He's a veteran, so he's a veteran.
06:16Here's what I'm saying in a perfect world.
06:18Of course, I would let Drew Stevens kick in a preseason game.
06:21But if it was only going to be one kick, I'm not sure I would necessarily just force
06:24the kid to try a 60-yarder.
06:26Have him kick, you know, make some makeable ones that you expect him to lock down.
06:30Let him warm up a little bit.
06:32There's no need to just trot him out there for just a random 60-yarder.
06:36I don't know, as far as I'm concerned.
06:38I'd like to see him go out for a 65-yarder game situation to see.
06:43Let him boom it.
06:44See what happens.
06:44Let him fly.
06:45You know he can do it.
06:47Game situation a little different.
06:49Yeah.
06:50I don't know.
06:51I'd protect him a little bit.
06:53You want to put him on ice.
06:54I go with the Keith Mitchell theory I told you on the PGA Tour that in practice rounds,
06:59there's no putting six-footers for par.
07:03We're not making a bogey and getting bad mojo in our practice round.
07:07We hit it close.
07:08We hit a putt.
07:09And then we scoop it.
07:10And it's good, good.
07:11Then we scoop it.
07:12We go to the next hole.
07:13We're not feeling bad about missing a three-footer in the back of our brain to start the tournament.
07:17That's kind of how I would handle kickers, I think.
07:20Anyway, there you go.
07:21Any guys in particular, backups that you guys are kind of keeping an eye on?
07:26You're not going to see Sonny Stiles.
07:28People aren't going to be able to break that down.
07:30Well, I just kind of want to see the backup receivers and how they play.
07:35If it's going to be Hartman throwing to them, that's fine.
07:37Do you expect when they cut guys that it's going to be a whirlwind day?
07:42I think Saturday is going to be crazy.
07:45I think it's going to be crazy.
07:46You think Saturday?
07:47I think it's going to be crazy.
07:49There's a lot of games on Sunday.
07:51Sunday, too, yeah.
07:52No, I'm not talking about games.
07:54I'm talking about cut day.
07:56So, in other words, their heads are going to be spinning.
07:59I think there'll be some movement on the margins.
08:01I don't think it's going to be a ton.
08:03I think it'll be three or four guys.
08:04Sure, three or four guys.
08:06No, but there'll be guys that make the team and an hour later are cut.
08:10That's probably going to happen.
08:12And they're probably going to go out and find a center that gets cut somewhere else to add some depth.
08:17I do want to hear from people, though.
08:19So, do you think they should play?
08:22I think the first-teamer should play.
08:241-800-636-1067.
08:27And I'm looking at our poll of the day.
08:3058%, 59% believe that the starters should play.
08:33Do I expect Dan Quinn to do it?
08:34To me, that's crazy.
08:35No, but Jane Daniels, the first-team offense, basically got three snaps the whole preseason.
08:41So, you want Jane to go out there behind a makeshift offensive line?
08:44Yes.
08:45They might have to start that makeshift offensive line.
08:48I can't do that.
08:50I want to see the guys play, but they're not.
08:52So, it doesn't matter what I think.
08:54I think the problem is that people are confusing what they want with what they should do.
08:59I think they should play.
09:01Yeah.
09:01Well, but they're not going to play.
09:03I know.
09:03But you're kind of an outside-the-box guy.
09:05Not really.
09:06The majority is with me.
09:07The majority believe they should play.
09:09They're confused.
09:10I'm saying you're outside.
09:11It's not.
09:11How's that confusing?
09:12It's a pretty.
09:13Brain fall.
09:14It's a simple question.
09:15You're outside the box in terms of the conventional wisdom.
09:18That's not.
09:19No, look.
09:19It says should, all caps.
09:21Should Jaden Daniels and the first-team offense play in the Commander's final preseason?
09:26I mean, right now, 59% say should.
09:31Well, then I would say that 59%, I'll just be clear, are dumb.
09:34Why would we put the world's most fragile quarterback?
09:38He's more fragile than Justin Herbert.
09:41He's more fragile than Josh Allen and these other guys.
09:43Those guys are tanks.
09:45We got a toothpick quarterback.
09:46We got to be honest about it.
09:48Kirky played.
09:49Kirky doesn't expose himself.
09:51And he's a veteran.
09:52And he's a bigger guy.
09:53And he's old.
09:55But a veteran should actually be the one that doesn't need to play.
09:58It's all about, they're not all robots.
10:02The coaches aren't robots.
10:03They think differently.
10:04They just do.
10:05There are certain coaches that say, you're starting, even if it's the thing,
10:08the third preseason.
10:08You guys didn't think he was going to play last week.
10:11He played three.
10:12Basically, he didn't.
10:12Yeah.
10:13No, I didn't say I didn't think he would.
10:15I said, I wouldn't.
10:16That's where I was with you.
10:17Like I was using your, I wouldn't play him.
10:20I think the preseason is an absolute farce.
10:24I mean, even if he plays tonight, he's going to play one series
10:27and it might be three and out again.
10:29What's the point?
10:29Yeah.
10:30Get sacked and then he cracks his fibula.
10:33And Allegretti's not playing.
10:34You know, because you got some turd at center.
10:36Not going to do that.
10:38Why would we do that?
10:39Expose our friends.
10:40The only way this season has any hope is if five is out there healthy.
10:45Because they looked like ass on Wednesday, according to all reports.
10:49That's unfortunate.
10:50I agree.
10:50They look like ass.
10:52They're going to have to tidy it up.
10:53That's unfortunate.
10:54Outside of a game scenario.
10:55But that doesn't override the fact that you can't expose this kid to a meaningless game.
11:01I told you, I'm with Tom Brady.
11:03I think you've got to play some football to get better at football.
11:06And these guys need some action.
11:08They play football during the week.
11:10They've had two joint practices.
11:11One, he looked very good.
11:13And the team looked very good against a bad team.
11:15Against a very good team, they looked bad.
11:17Would you play him if Allegretti was playing and Cosme was playing?
11:22So now your starting offensive line is there.
11:24It's more likely, but I don't see the need.
11:28It's still unnecessary.
11:29I would lean towards starting them if both those guys were playing.
11:32But I don't think that's going to happen.
11:35They're probably not going to play any of the starting offensive line.
11:37The worst thing that could possibly happen to this franchise would be him getting hurt in the third preseason game.
11:44In fact, that might be fireable.
11:47It might be fireable.
11:48There would be people showing up at pitchforks at Dan Quinn's house.
11:51If he starts Jay Daniels tonight, he blows out his knee.
11:56Who's built like a twig you threw out there in a meaningless game where we have 40% of our
12:02offensive line.
12:03But they were all meaningless.
12:04I know.
12:05I wouldn't play them in any of them.
12:06They're all meaningless.
12:07Now, if I had a tank, if he was built like Justin Herbert, and he didn't have the track record
12:12of blowing over and cracking something,
12:16then maybe I would play him.
12:18We got it.
12:19This is like a...
12:20We got like a...
12:21He's got like the body of like a 90-year-old grandma.
12:24Wow, that's a little bit extreme.
12:27He better not.
12:28I mean, it has nothing to do with his toughness.
12:30Built like Mrs. Bickle.
12:31Yeah, it has nothing to do with...
12:32It's like he's got osteoporosis or something.
12:34It has nothing to do with his toughness.
12:36Guy wants to play.
12:38I get it.
12:38We got to protect him.
12:40We just got to protect him.
12:41I think he should play.
12:42I think the first team should play.
12:43I think they should get some rhythm.
12:45Look, they're not playing for another 16 days?
12:48No, they're playing every day.
12:49September 13th, whatever.
12:50They're playing every day in practice.
12:51They're practicing.
12:52He's playing football.
12:54He's playing football.
12:55They're not tackling, but it's unnecessary right now.
12:58They're not getting close to him.
13:00That's fine.
13:01Why?
13:02We don't need the unnecessary hitting.
13:05I think it helps.
13:07I think it helps.
13:07I don't know how it helps for him to just get sacked, flushed, and run for his life.
13:12Well, why does it have to be sacked and flushed?
13:15Because you're playing behind backup off his alignment.
13:17I mean, the whole theory of the people that wanted to play in the second preseason game,
13:22you know, 15 to 20 snaps, whatever it was, it turned out to be three.
13:25But there were a lot of people that wanted to play 15 to 20 snaps was, well, we need to
13:29get that operation going with David Blau calling the plays into the headset during the game situation.
13:35It was so important because maybe they were terrified, but maybe you've got to clean it up.
13:40That's what practice is for.
13:41Yeah, they're doing that at practices, not in these dumb preseason games.
13:43Well, you act like practice is nothing.
13:46Like, it's not important.
13:47No, but I think that preseason games, they can serve a purpose.
13:50I think that preseason games have evolved into nothing.
13:52They've evolved into a big joke, just like the pro players.
13:54Largely.
13:55Yeah.
13:56Still want to see him play and get a rhythm.
13:581-800-636-1067 if you want to chime in.
14:03Final preseason game tonight, 6 o'clock, with the Commanders and Ravens facing each other.
14:09Should the first team offense and Jaden Daniels take the field and get some reps in?
14:151-800-636-1067.
